Well, my 19 with the Trono 65S arrived a couple of days ago.

I took it out for one round, and have also had a long range session against my F6 Baffler and Apex 21 19 hybrid.

Alas, I think I am not man enough for the Trono. I've hit a few decent shots with it, but it is not as long as the Baffler nor as high and straight as the Apex hybrid.

I may try and swap for a UW with the regular Hzrdus shaft (which I love in my driver), otherwise it is off to BST.

I picked a 19* up for Will Peoples since I have been HATING my hybrid lately and I like it a lot so far.  Took it straight to the course since the range was closed and hit it great on the first swing which was off the tee into the wind.  Flight was very forward, got to the height window I was looking to hit, and a very straight flight.  Hit it the very next hole which was downwind.  Results the rest of the day followed the first shot, but the best part was zero hooks like I have been seeing with the hybrid.

Have one in my callaway cart but after putting a heavier weight in the flash 7 wood is was just fantastic this past sunday. So I just don't know if the UW would be worth it except for the new and shiny fun.

Thanks for this! As somebody who has gamed both the F6 Baffler and TM Raylor, I figured my purchase of a UW was inevitable. What stopped me so far was gapping - I would be looking at a 21* to replace my G410 22* hybrid (set at 21*), but based on what I've read so far was concerned it might go too far. Looking at your pictures... there's not that much difference in size/shape between my G410 and the UW. It's close enough to stop me buying one sight unseen and will wait until I can test one out.

I'm a lefty so the only option for me is 19*, but I had a G425 3 hybrid at 19* earlier this year, so I can offer a little bit of a comparison: I'm getting about 10-15 more yards out of the UW on average than I did the G425 hybrid (which was hot to begin with). About 230 carry to 215-220. So, I'd think the gapping concern is a real one and you're smart to play this carefully.

Honestly, you might test out a lower lofted version of the UW and find that your 5 wood is in more jeopardy than your 4 hybrid. Especially since that 4 hybrid can be adjusted from your current 21* up to 23* or whatever works best for your gapping.

This....in my testing...the 21 UW was less than 5 yards behind my Ping 19 Hyb on similar good strikes.

Thanks! My 5-wood is working so well right now that I'm not tempted to replace it. Also, I'm somebody who needs to crank the face open on adjustable woods & hybrids to have them look right to me, so wouldn't really be messing with the lofts on anything. For now looks like the UW just doesn't fit in my bag...

You bet. I don’t play a fairway wood so I’ve used the g410 hybrid at 16.5* flat as a fairway wood replacement for 2 years now.  It is due for a replacement and I was going to get the 425 until I heard about the UW. I wish it was adjustable but to the naked eye it looks very close to the g410 in flat setting with regards to lie and noticeably flatter than the ltd 4w. It also sits noticeably open. Both good things for me.

It looks like you guys bought up all the Trono 75 models, lol.  The only one available to select is the Trono 65, but still no upcharge.  I normally wouldn't use a shaft that light, but still tempted to get 17 Degree in Trono 65X.  I have plenty of other aftermarket shafts laying around and could always switch it out.  I've always wanted to try a Trono and with no upcharge, why not.

I love the UW and will probably carry it, but I’m extremely impressed with the Trono 65X.  I’ve never used a shaft under 70 grams which felt firm enough to suit my taste until now.  It would seem like a waste to not try with a driver, so I already removed it from the UW and glued it into a Taylormade adapter for the 300 Mini as it will be the perfect length for me on that.  I glued a Tour AD VR 8X into the UW, so I’ll give that a go.

I’m really tempted to order the 75TX Trono as a lighter alternative for my 6.5TX 90 Smoke Green, which is my favorite shaft.  I think I might end up liking the Trono better.

So after 3 range sessions, and 2, 9 hold rounds - the UW is going to win out.  Just to easy to hit so many different shots with it and the feel is really good.

Second would go to the UT, as I have always loved a driving iron.  Will most likely to keep for times when it is dry and the fairways dry out, but just can't get enough loft to allow it to stop on greens like the UW will.

I got my 21 uw and liking it. It might replace my 19 hybrid.

That made me think of 17.

Anybody replaced their 3/4w with 17?

(how was the yardage?)

I don't have any problem with my current 3w but this 21 is so easy to hit.

I am also thinking about going with 17* instead of 4 wood.  Curious about launch with 17*?

initial testing today. Extremely solid and consistent but was drawing too much for me. Either tipping the rdx black 80x another .5” to 1.5” total and adding some toe melt or going to something much more stable. Would be sooo much easier if they had made it a .370 tip/hosel as opposed to a driver/fairway .335. Cutting down a $200-400 fairway shaft to test at 41” sucks. If it doesn’t work out you can’t unload it for anything.

So I've played a few rounds now with my 17 & 21 w/RDX 80 Stiff Shafts.  I had the same lofts with Tronos, and for me, preferred the RDX.  First off, they're long, more comparable to FW's than hybrids if that makes sense.  I get about 220 out of the 21, and 240 out of the 17 on solid strikes.  The 17 has a nice penetrating flat trajectory with mid spin, and the 21 obviously launches a little higher with a touch more spin.  I've hit some absolutely beautiful shots with both, and they feel great!!  I intend to keep them both in the bag.

This causes a bit of an issue in regards to the 14 clubs in my bag.  Previously won't driver, 4 wood, 19 hyb, 4-LW with 46, 51, 56, 61 wedges.  I'm not up for removing a wedge, that's kind of my bread and butter.  Also, I like a FW in the bag for a backup driver, as driver is not my bread and butter.  Here's what I'm thinking, 13.5 3 wood, 17 & 21 UW's, strengthen my 5 iron a degree, and dump 4 iron.  The top end gaps in my bag would look like this

Driver - 280

3 wood - 260

17 UW - 240

21 UW - 220

5 iron - 200

I feel like if I had 210, depending on conditions, I could take a little off the 21, or nuke 5.  Anyone else with similar thoughts or ideas?

Man, I'm very close to your distances - I take a slightly different approach though.  I really see value in having a 4 iron between the 5 and 21.  I feel it's more important to have options at that distance vs having a 3 wood and 17UW so close at the top end.  How often are you really seeing those distances on the course with your length?  Last thought on my setup - I don't really have the ability to "nuke" a 5i an extra 10 yards (especially in windy conditions) so that plays into my need for the 4i

Some valid points here, especially regarding seeing  those distances.  Looks like we are indeed spot on with our distances.  I think what I will have to do is play around a bit and really see what I would miss if I kept both the UW's in the bag.  My primary reason for wanting to keep both is they are so darn easy to hit, have a great trajectory, and they give me options of short/medium length par 4's, which my tee game is where I typically struggle.  Thanks for your thoughts.

My first impression of the 19 degree UW is awesome but the stock length of 41.5" will not work for me. I always play my fairway woods and hybrids a touch shorter than normal. I just find more control with a shorter length fairway shaft. I tipped my AD-DI 80X 2" and cut it down to 40.5". Ordered a new weight from Billy Bobs golf to get the swingweight back up. Will hopefully report back soon once the weight gets here.
