Does it sit square to open? Did you go with the 80 gram RDX?

Yes it sits very nice at address. Yes 80 gram. I think it’s perfect. I may swap it out for a Ventus as I really like the Ventura stuff but for now this is working just fine.

also, I didn’t get the 17 degree. I got the 19 degree.

Really enjoying mine. Another range session today comparing it to my Ping G425 5 wood again. I swear the UW goes the same distance and dare I say is more forgiving?  Not sure how that’s possible but even poor strikes want to go long and straight.

I may pull the 5 wood out this week and put it up for sale with the matching 3 wood.

Which loft are you playing in the UW?

I ordered the 17 but as a guy who cranks everything open I’m nervous about it being glued.

I bought a 19* UW with Trono like many here but alas wasn't good enough for the shaft.

So I flipped it and bought another 19* UW with a friendlier Tensei Blue.

Now I get what people are talking about.

I’m a 15 handicap 52 years old and not a high speed swinger and I don’t find the Trono that hard to swing. Granted mines a plain ole 65g stiff flex.

Anyone hit the 21*?

currently playing a 16.5 FW (5 wood lofted down) then a 4 iron is next. It’s 22*.

Thinking it will gap fine since the 21 will be lighter and longer and not be too close to the 21.

ideally would want a 20*

I play the 21. Hit 4 iron about 210, 21 UW goes 220-225, I started with the 19 and it was really close to my 16.5.  which led me to also buying a 17 to replace the 4 wood.  They're so easy to hit, and extremely workable.  Really impressive ball speeds off of them

I have the 19* and without a fast SS I find it not all that easy to hit well often, I have had some beautiful shots but quite a few low burners which is of course swing related but not what I was hoping for. Having never been able to make a hybrid work for any amount of time maybe it is just mental, but I think a 21* would have been a better fit and I may just make the swap.

This is NOT a brag post, just simply a warning for higher speed players.  My course has GPS on the carts that isn’t super accurate, but usually in the ballpark.  My first two tee shots with the 19 degree (Trono 75X) were 302 and 305.  Nothing tricked up in the fairway or anything weird.  I figured even if the GPS is off by 20 yards it’s still too much.  Shots from the fairway were similar, almost a flyer ballflight but with plenty of height.

Please make sure you can try these before buying if you’re trying to fill a specific gap.  I actually love the ballflight as it’s ultra windy where I live, but the 21 degree definitely would’ve filled my 230-240 gap much better.  It might just be that the shaft isn’t allowing me to put enough backspin on the ball so that’s why it’s so hot, but it’s launching nicely so I don’t think it would make a huge difference.  It’s a rocket launcher.

This is honestly the approach I'm thinking about.  I'm playing a 16.5* TS2 that I hit in that 245-250 range and then a strong 5i that I hit about 205-210.  Been fighting with the club in between the two that I can hit in that 225 range and be a perfect blend.

Same dilemma. I’ve been able to try the 19 degree and it’s just too similar to my 16 4w. I have a 21 degree 7w I’m trying but it launches too high. I wonder if the 21 degree would UW would flight slightly lower than the 21 degree Speed 7w??

I think the answer to this question is yes. My 19* UW flies lower than my 18* 5W did. So not the direct 21* vs. 21* comparison you’re considering, but similar.

I agree, hit plenty of 7 woods and this launches lower.  It's hard to describe, but almost more like an iron than a wood

Alas, I am an exception.

I've tried the UW 19 with a Trono, and then again with Tensei Blue.

Hit it OK on the range. And off the tee.

Hit it awful on the course.

My F6 baffler is longer when I need to take a risk for distance.

My 21* Epic Flash is shorter but I trust it.

Aside from tee shots on 220ish par 3s, it's not worth the risk for me.

Still smitten with the 21* UW with Trono 75s. I play an F6 Baffler at 17.5 and Z585 5 iron at 24 on either side of it. I've been trying to fill that gap for a while, testing hybrids, driving irons, 7 woods. The UW just seems to give me everything I want. Ball flight is higher then my 20* apex hybrid, but lower and more controlled than a 7W. I have had great results off the tee. No issues going left like I would see with hybrids. And much more consistent distance than driving irons. It's been a good club hitting into greens on par 5s. Feels like the descent angle and spin of a well struck 5 iron. Sometimes hybrids get a little low and dont hold firm greens.

Should get a true test here next week as I am going to play Pasatiempo, Spyglass, Spanish Bay, and Pebble. The latter two in a tournament and those seem like short courses that take driver out of the hand on quite a few holes.

Anyone using the 17 degree as longest fairway? Considering this, then hybrid to 4 iron. No one has in area to try yet alone see in person.

Yessir I am.  I picked up a 17* UW with Ventus Black 7 about 2 weeks ago and wanted to see how it compared to my SIM Ti 15* 3 wood.  I have LOVED my SIM Ti but the Callaway UW was the hands down winner.  It's longer, goes arrow straight, super easy to hit from any lie and off the tee and the feel/sound is amazing.  I haven't been this excited to play a new fairway wood in a long time.

17 degree UW goes farther than your SIM TI 3-wood? Are these spin-less low bullets or are you getting some height and spin?

I haven't hit them on the launch monitor yet but I'm not seeing the ball fall out of the air with the UW so I don't suspect there to be a lack of spin.  I've hit both into par 5's and held the greens no problem.  The UW is just a missile launcher when the ball comes off the face.

I'll see if I can grab some data this week out on the course.

I'm also seeing similar numbers compared to my 13.5 Epic Flash Sub Zero.  I'd say the 17 UW is maybe 10 yards shorter, but way straighter.  My launch is probably a bit low at 15 degrees, but spin is right at 3-3300k

I bought 19* to serve as 5 wood because I liked like the shape.  Sets up dead square and feel is metallic hot.

Ordered with Tensei Blue to give me higher flight I want for approach shots.  This shaft feels too loose for me and was going left.  Reshafting now with my trusted 3wood shaft. We will see if it works for me.  Contenders in my stable are 5deep (at 41.75") and 19* PXG gen2(at 41.5) hybrid turned down to 18.25.

Having mine (19*) built with a Ventus Red today, and I couldn’t be more excited.  I really like how this club sits at address, and the feel is fantastic.

I blocked my first few shots with the UW, but given my propensity to go left, I didn’t mind.  Just swung a little more aggressively and started hitting them dead straight.  I have the same shaft in my 5w, so should make for a good comparison.

Good info. I have never dug the 3 wood (but it's getting better last 2 rounds) as I go 7w then 4i. The UW as a long fairway is what I am after. Tried a 19* hybrid with abysmal results...

Just curious how you are tip trimming the shaft. Are you following the Ventus tipping guideline for 5-wood (-1/2 inch), or something different? I have no idea how much these club heads weigh, but I would assume they are lighter given the shorter stock shaft lengths.

I will have to confirm.  We were talking about 1” or 1.5”, but he said he would weigh it first.    Not sure what he settled on, but does look more than 0.5”
