Reasons to tell your wife when new golf clubs show up at the door?

When a driver and fairway wood show up on the door this week, they will have been sent by a friend as I gave his kid some stuff.  Plausible is all I need.

The UPS guy knows to put my boxes on the he side of the garage. I have used the "hold on station" with FedEx and they hold it at Walgreens. USPS I can usually intercept. 

 

Both of us WFH and her office is on the front of the house, so it's a challenge. But I can be in the garage when the mail truck pulls up.

She does know I'm pretty good with selling stuff.  Got a pre-owned Mavrik over the summer for like $225, just sold my Rogue with a shaft I had that I was never going to use for $150.

 

So I got the upgrade, kept the shaft that I liked and used with my Rogue AND got the Riptide shaft with the Mavrik that I have also taken a liking to.

 

Also lots of this. She knows I'm a cheap bastxxx, so I will generally recoup the investment.

I with the if the bills are paid who cares, you can’t take it with you.  If you really need an excuse, try I would rather spend money on golf clubs, then getting a girlfriend and spending money on her!  You may have to replace a broken club.

You could always claim that the supply chain issues caused a lot of inventory to not make it in time for the holidays, and now retailers are trying to get rid of the excess late inventory by offering deep discounts.

I had the UPS driver ask me one time if I was a professional golfer, because he was delivering so many golf club boxes to me so often…..   How do you explain being a club ho to the average joe?, lol

When I had my truck project, the UPS guy would leave stuff on the seat for me so the wife wouldn't ask. 🤣

I feel my wallet getting lighter every single time I look at CKTG. My wife bought me a gorgeous carbon steel 270mm gyuto a few years back and it's glorious. I keep trying to find some actual stainless knives for her because I don't think she's interested in caring for carbon steel and she's a little intimidated by the length of mine... (The knife, I mean!) My 6000 grit stone is still in good shape, but I really need to replace the 1000 grit soon. 

 

I could spend $5K on that website in about 5 minutes if I really tried. So I try not to 😉

My wife and I never have this conversation because we're both adults that work for a living.  We don't tell each other how to spend the money we earn as long as our debt and savings obligations are met.

 

With all the responses here, I wonder if half or joking or if people really live like they're claiming.  I don't know anybody personally that have these sort of issues or conversations, or if they do they aren't talking about it.  Not a chance I'd ever stand for being questioned on something I bought with money I earned unless I'm not covering the neccesary expenses and packing that retiirement/savings.

Oh boy… CKTG is a gateway, the rabbit hole goes much, much deeper. We’ll beyond my pay grade, but I’ve seen single stones go for a few thousand and the rarest knives can easily be in that $5k+ club. If you want stainless knife recommendations, feel free to pm me - I’ve owned A LOT of knives and handled a lot more besides.

I figured out a great solution to the unwanted questions from wifey.
 

I found out that Amazon has stores that they partner with locally that you can get packages delivered to. So now I get all my golf stuff delivered to my local Amazon delivery store (a corner store), and don’t have to worry about the surprise packages having to be explained showing up at the door!

 

I still get little stuff that’s not a secret delivered, but the big stuff is going to my off-site secret location! 😉🤫

To answer the question - I tell my girlfriend that the illicit fantasy of a club somehow making me a better golfer/making any kind of difference to my game is too strong to ignore. Also it's fun and doesn't hurt anyone.

 

Then I wash some dishes and bake a casserole.

My wife just laughs. SHe usually asks, "Is that the same set you sold three times already?" It's become a running joke about Wilson V6 irons. She pretty much begs me to keep them knowing when I sell them, I'll regret it and begin my search for another set.

This. I don’t get why people feel the need to justify their own money. My wife and I both agree as long as the bills are paid and some money goes into savings each month we can do what we want with our money as we earned it. I don’t ask her about clothes and she doesn’t ask me about my various hobby parcels.

LOL....there is some truth to that for sure. Sometimes i also wonder ... However, i sense that you are a bit younger, so i will only give you this word of caution:

 

Going from girlfriend to wife is like moving from SGI's to blades--There's a forgiveness difference even if you are ready and have the game for it.
