Anyone notice a serious lack of MMT options in the preorders?

Hit the 7 iron at pga superstore. There was a line to hit the only head they had, so I only had limited swings. I personally really liked it. Very forgiving and not too hot like the i525.

 

I swear there is a conspiracy about Ping not letting anyone know about the long irons. I watched about 7 video reviews, and read a bunch of articles but not a single one shows how "compact" the i230 long irons are. And PGA SS only had a 7 iron head. Womp.

Australian pricing is insane almost $360 AUD per club, 4 to GW is over $2800 this prices them way above any iron currently sold here, excluding PXG of course.

 

Will be interesting to see how they sell, available 11th November.

Interestingly, in Japan, they're offering both Alta J CB, and this new Chrome "I" shaft.

 

Does anyone know what these "2.0" shafts resemble? Are they UST?

Tried the 7 iron the other day with multiple shafts. IMO a big enough improvement over i210 to upgrade, but the price seems out of line. If they were still close to $125/club would be a no brainer. Doesn't mean I won't buy them, just not so quick to pull the trigger.

 

Also the backplate sits more inside the cavity versus the t200 and didn't feel cheap or plasticky. I think most will like the look in person.

The backplate has really been the only thing holding me back from pre-ordering so that is good to know. A few YouTube reviewers are also saying the plate feels like a solid piece of material, too.

 

Do you mind sharing some things that you found as an improvement over the i210?

For sure, and Apple has done this with their new iPad pricing too.

 

These companies seem to have hiked their prices in USD, and then used the the strong current USD exch rate to price their products outside the US. This price then (presumably) applies for the entire product cycle, when we could easily see a mean reversion in the exch rate.

 

The other thing of course is that these price hikes coincide with a rapidly deteriorating global economic situation and golf clubs are the epitome of discretionary spending.

i230, T100, T200, P790, Miz 225, Apex Pro, Miz 923 tour.... all within $15 of each other for the full 7 iron set (approx $1300).

Shorter blade length. Thinner topline. Better feel.

 

Most impressive though was the consistency. Holds the line and spin/launch didn't vary much. This was indoors...off the turf may differ.

I'm sure they aren't tiny. It's a good thing they adjusted slightly as the progressive set is a great idea but the long irons were slightly jarring compared to the mid in the old set. This is a great looking set of irons that I'm sure will have tons of success again. Ping makes this category of iron as well or better than any other OEM. The i210 spun a bit more than I prefer but was a wonderful iron.
