Watching your own swing on video...anyone else get a little queasy?

I was thinking about Hubert Green this morning and I stumbled on a nice obituary of the two-time major winner at GolfWeek.

 

My favorite line?

 

His swing was distinctively fast and featured a c0ck of the wrist.

But it certainly worked, prompting him to once say: “I don’t analyze it. I looked at it once on film and almost got sick.”

 

I've seen my own swing on video enough to know I don't like watching it.

 

For all of the adjustments and "swing changes" I've made over the years it always looks pretty much the same, and not in a good way.

 

I'm sure young players, who have grown up with video, have no problem watching themselves at all.

Are you comfy watching your swing on video or are you like Hubert & me?

I have video of myself going back to about 07. Quite a transformation.

First time I saw my swing on video was the last time I imagined my swing looked like Rory's, or good at all for that matter.

I video my swing and swing drills all the time.  I may sometimes be disappointed in what I see, but that's the point: To identify things that need correction or improvement.

The best thing about video is when you make what feels like a huge change and you see the position of your [hands, club head, pelvis, insert your own thing here] has moved only about 1/2"....

Only saw mine once on a trackman session.  Almost quit golf on the spot.   My stance looked like Keegan Bradley playing with short shafts. Horrible.  Made the guy turn off the camera and focused on the swing path.  That I liked.  My clubface is almost always square so that made me happy.  Now if can just stop pulling my club in a little and stop hitting off the toe...

I actually love watching video of myself until i post it here and get shredded, but i think i have a fairly aesthetically pleasing swing at least to me. But people way smarter than me find the things i can't see

Back when my son was in high school he didn't play HS golf,  just baseball and football. One of his best friends was on the golf team and he hung out with them whenever he got the chance. So he comes home one night with a tape of his golf swing and said " just tell me if it looks like a real golf swing" the coach said it looks ike Davis Love Iii swinging a golf club." I assured him it did, he says " good I don't want to look like a what do you call them, hackers ?" lol

He was actually about a 10 cap at the time and played alot during the summers growing up.

I last saw my swing on video probably 12 years ago. I don't want to see it ever again. I know it's a really goofy swing that is entirely self-taught, but it's good enough to get me scores in the 70s most of the time, and it's not going to change at this point.

I like it, makes it easier to find what to work on for myself and an instructor. The 1st time I saw it so many years ago I was expecting something much, much different lol.

 

My kid has a swing that'd make Ernie Els look choppy. That I could watch all day.

I video'd myself once, but screwed up with the camera settings somehow.  Every time I played it back it was in slow motion.

I play off a 0.1 right now and my swing isn't textbook for sure. I don't mind looking at it though

I hate looking at it, I only look at it when my coach shows me. I know my swing isn’t terrible but if it doesn’t look like Rory I think it’s crap 😂

It's not so much the swing as it is seeing the 30lbs I've put on in the last 10 years.  I don't notice it as much looking in a mirror and it's been a sneaky gain with only a few pounds a year but there is no denying it when seen on video.

I don't mind seeing mine on video.  It always amazes me that what you "feel" you are doing is often not anywhere close to what you are actually doing.

I don't ever want to see a video.  I'll watch snippets of my swing that my instructor wants me to see. 

As for seeing the whole swing or putting it out there for public viewing, NFC!! 

There are parts I feel are good.  There are too many parts right now that I feel are bad. 

Pulling the handle right now and it's an ugly thing to see.  I'll fix one bad thing at a time.

My buddy has a small golf YouTube channel that I've been on a few times. Nothing like having 100's of strangers watch your swing. Lol.

I’ve seen my swing once on video. I always thought my swing looked somewhat similar to Rahm…. After video review it’s closer to Charles Barkley

It's like watching footage of yourself dancing at a wedding.   

 

After allowing your brain to grasp the moment, there is a long period of denial (sometimes days or weeks) followed by deep introspection and then a subsequent pursuit to "change your life."   You find yourself straightening your sock drawer, cleaning the garage and eating more raw vegetables.

Yeah, did that when trying to shorten my backswing. Recorded 1 swing, then tried another with the "shorter" swing.

 

Hmm....must have messed up and forgot to hit record because it looks the same. OK, this time I'm only going to take it halfway back.

 

WTF? Again there's no difference?

Also the first time I saw my swing it was just staggering how un-athletic it is. 😳

I won a charity auction once that included a one hour video swing analysis.  When I saw my swing on video I wondered how I even hit the ball.  I was messed up for two years trying to fix things.

My self esteem is low enough and my anxiety is high enough as it is. Last thing I want to do is see my swing and what I look like on video to max both those out.

I have the Full Swing Kit, it videos every swing. I have got used to it I guess. I mean my "Club head outside the hands" take away is way inside and my regular take away is way, way inside. My "open hips" impact position is basically the same as my address position. So yeah it takes some getting used to find out how much feel ain't real.

 

One night I was lifting weights and stopped to hit some balls. I had my shirt off. Later the next day I was going through my phone and looked at the App to review my swing. Saw a swing with my shirt off and sent my wife a one word text.
