I wish NBC would dump Azinger and promote Justin Leonard to lead analyst. Justin just calls the golf and not saying pressure 100 times a broadcast is a big plus.

I also think NBC's "B team" of Gannon, Byrum, Leonard is currently the best crew in golf (Gannon/Byrum are mostly on Golf Channel).  Wouldn't mind seeing those guys weekly

IDK but I wish LIV would offer him a boatload of money. I only watch PGA Tour golf and this would cement my pro-PGA Tour stance.

Not a big fan of Azinger the announcer.  I saw him yesterday riding around in a cart yesterday morning watching different groups prior to going on air at the BMW.  He stopped and took pictures with everyone that asked.  Generally was interested in what people had to say and very conversational.  

 

Still don't love the announcer, but can appreciate him more as a normal guy.

Azinger was a very good pro player but when it comes to announcing he should stick to sitting on the couch and announcing to his kids. He’s painful to listen to with countless attempts at creating controversy and trying to replace Johnny Miller. Jim Nance is King and does it with natural and experienced talent. Faldo eventually became great after sitting with Nance forever and fine tuning his trade. Trevor Immelman is an insult as a replacement for Sir Nick. Nick’s hilarious English twist on words and great player perspective is already sorely missed. Please someone give Zinger and Immelman the axe ASAP……and hire me for on course announcing. With all do respect and admiration, I would eventually make Feherty, Maltbie, Kostis, McCord etc. look drab and stale. My fresh, everyday golfer take on announcing will appeal to all age groups and have golfers and non golfers alike tuning in to watch and hear me do my thing. The whole crew is a mess, except for Rodger, they just don't know how to let "the moment" breathe. Who is in the booth with Zinger? Is it Dan Hicks? Whoever it is, they just ramble on and on. Everything is overamplified too, it's like they feel the need to go over the top, all the time.

Zinger tries too hard sometimes BUT at least he's not boring...... boring is the worst.  Like Gary Koch or Ian Baker Finch.... those guys are so monotone corporate shills its hard to listen to but at least Zinger aint that even if he says the word Pressure every 10 minutes

Zinger's worst trait is overselling how hard shots are and then having to backpedal when the player pulls it off. 

 

He also seems to have trouble seeing the shots on his monitor which leads him to make early calls that are incorrect. "That ball needs a kick to be any good." Meanwhile we see the ball bounding down the center of the fairway.

I spend more time yelling at the TV “hit the da** shot already!” than I do worrying about Azinger’s comments. I prefer him over Nance, who sounds like he’s whispering at a funeral.

Spot on. Colin Montgomerie is very witty, and very well spoken. Ever since chuckling at the, "I didn't appreciate it" line he dropped after playing with Tiger at the 97 Masters, I do not miss any opportunity to hear what he has to say. 

 

I almost tried to engage him in a conversation next to a tee box at the Senior Players a few years back, but the look he shot me buttoned my yap up pretty solid. His eyes clearly said, "don't, not in the mood."  It was one of those rare moments of human interaction where you communicate with someone without saying anything. He knew I was about to stuff my foot in my mouth when our eyes met, and he helped me think better of it, lol.

I'm floored that this hasn't been brought up more. I keep thinking he'll eventually get fired. He tries way too hard, repeats himself all the time and is wrong about 80% of his calls. And we have to hear him correct himself or back pedal stupid comments all the time.  It's unbelievable this guy still has a job. I can't stand listening to him and it has affect my enjoyment of watching golf. They don't need him, there are plenty of much better golf broadcasters already doing a better job.

I don't really pay attention to the announcers, as long as they provide decent stats and relevant background information on players, courses. I can't even tell who is talking and usually don't care.

That's the usual contention of the average golf fan. This obsession with the announcers has to stop. It's pathetic and annoying how Azinger live rent free in their heads.

Absolutely awful take. And a highly hypocritical one, given those with such an "obsession with the announcers" are apparently living rent free in your head , given you went out of your way to make such a silly comment. It's pathetic and annoying you take such issue with others simply expressing their opinions

 

The reality is TV golf is not exactly exciting/interesting and US announcers for whatever reason try their best to make it more exciting than it really is. Azinger tries extra hard at this and fails miserably, which honestly takes away from the broadcast as a whole. The poo-for-brains production team apparently can't get it through their thick skulls that no one with half a brain wants to sit there and listen to such BS shenanigans for hours on end.
