Quality used fairway wood

Hey all,

In the market for a fairway wood (3 & 5), looking for the best bang for buck wood I can get. For context I’m a mid handicapper and value forgiveness.

I’ve been considering older model Pings (G400/410), Cobra F9, Callaway Epic Flash & Mavrik and Sim Max.

Anyone with some advice would be much appreciated!

Hard to beat TEE in value for money, more so with them selling 'used' gear off their site.

https://shop.touredge.com/collections/pre-owned-fairways

With that said, there has been so many good fairways over the last few years, that finding something shouldn't be hard at all, and more leans to what you can find with a shaft that works best for you.

Check out the Tour Edge Exotics EXS or EXS 220 fw woods. You can even split the difference and go with a 17 degree 3+ wood and only buy one. Shouldn’t be more than $90 or $100 from eBay or Rock Bottom. Real deal shafts and plenty forgiving.

TEE makes awesome woods and hybrids.  The c721 and c722 can be found very reasonable.  Both will be dropping again when the c723 is released later this month

Callaway Preowned has a great selection of various models and price ranges. I do not buy below Very Good on the scale below.

Scale:

Outlet are still wrapped in the original packaging in my experience.

Like New are generally are still wrapped in the original packaging. But, if not show hardly any use.

Very good are still in solid shape.

Agree with CPO

My recent experience has been a little difference, seems like there is a great amount of variability

Outlet usually in plastic

Like New, has not usually been in plastic for me, and recently it's been clear they have been demos or something of the sort, as they generally show some sign of use.  Used to be like new almost always came in plastic.  But I see plenty of people saying they are getting in plastic.  Also in like new putters it's been frustrating as they don't ship in the headcover (which they throw in the box) and I've had putters come to me with dings that I think came from banging around in the box, hitting other clubs in the box etc.

But the CS is very good to deal with and they will work with you to figure it out always

Tour Edge has last years C721 preowned fwy woods on sale for $102. Hard to beat that especially since their “preowned clubs” are usually practically new.

Chiming in for Callaway pre-owned - have bought lots from them in the last couple years, particularly FWs. Bounced between Mav SZ 3 wood, 4 wd... Epic Speed 5w.  Any sub zero line hits bombs.

Ultimately I wound up in a pair of TS2 woods - 4 and 7 wood that I picked up from 2nd Swing for ~$100 each. For the gaps I was looking for, they're a perfect blend of long, but controlled.

Best bang for your buck = lightly used Cobra Radspeed.

I typically find that if you want a new-ish fairway wood or hybrid, you find better prices on companies that release a new line every year. So, a TaylorMade, Callaway, Cobra wood that’s two years old is also two cycles old, and therefore heavily discounted. A Titleist or Ping wood that’s two years old is only one cycle old, and priced more like one-year-old products from those other manufacturers. Of course this isn’t always the case, but it’s a pattern I’ve noticed.

The BST here and Facebook groups are where I’d start. Then CPO and GlobalGolf, which often heavily discounts previous model TaylorMade stuff in particular.

TEE CBX119 is up there distance-wise with anything out there now (and the prior generation CBX was good too). As is the Taylormade 2016 M2.

both can be had for reasonable prices on preowned sites or the bay. The TEE in particular can be found in great condition for less than $100 with a decent shaft. Only problem is it gets close to your driver distance…

Maverik is a great value and is not even that old.  Ts3 is fantastic as well.  As mentioned above, m6 is a really good value.  Not adjustable, but it was one of my fav TM releases in the last 10 years.

So much good used product out there.  Find the shape you like and the right shaft and you will be good.

This..

Played yesterday with a buddy who just bought C721 7 wood. It was brand new for 149.00 and it's as good as any fairway wood I've hit this year.

Also, any of their older TEE models are fantastic.

I also agree with the G400 and G410 models.

There is no reason to spend a lot of money on newer models unless you just like having the latest in your bag. The performance won't be anything game changing.

I have a m3 5 wood I can’t get out of my bag.

I still have my M4 HL 3 wood. Just works and no reason to change.

Same can be said for my EX9 tour edge. Picked that up off the bay with a AD DI shaft for 80.00.

I don't get dropping over 150 on a new fairway wood.

I would choose from the Callaway or Ping lineup.

For versatility off the tee or turf, the head size, face depth and ease of launch of the original Rogue is hard to beat. I picked up cheap 4 and 7 wood heads and have them being refinished right now. One reason people like that particular 7 wood so much is it is bonded and sits square.
