This is a true story.....

 

Today, i went to the trackman bay i normally go to about 15 mins from my house....I was feeling good, it was 3PM in the afternoon and i had already worked out and was feeling spry. Normally when i go to the trackman it's 9Am or 10AM in the morning and it's my first exercise of the day, so this may have been a factor

 

Nevertheless....I start with 8 irons , and immediately as you might expect, start striping them with near perfect purity. My first 15 swings, 11 of them are over 160 which is too long for me. I normally average about 154-156 with 8 iron in my usual sessions. 

 

I demanded to speak to the manager, and told them their trackman needed to be calibrated, because i was hitting the ball too far. 

 

Someone beat this story. I will wait.

I had drank half a Stella , but absolutely positive it was an 8 iron

 

The manager was on the phone with technical help as I striped like 7 in a row over 160 while yelling "I don't hit it this far" like Vin Diesel in F&F

Not completely related, but my favorite story has to be when I used to work at the PGASS in Myrtle beach.. slightly bigger dude came in and was trying drivers and couldn’t get them over 200.. his swing was bad, contact bad, all the tell tale signs of what was coming next… one of the other guys I worked with heard him complaining (this LM is sh&$, I hit my driver 300+, etc etc) so he grabbed a ladies 7 iron and roped it 215 carry (past his driver) and looked at the guy and said, might be a bit juiced actually I normally only hit my 7 about 205. 
 

The look on the guys face was priceless. We all been there as club fitters but to find a way to “nicely” put them in their place… He is my legend to this day 😂

WRX Legend you say? I’ll attempt to steal your crown. I live in Alberta. I haven’t played golf on real grass since last October. Despite this lack of natural grass, I have gone through 3 iron sets, 2 drivers, 2 wedge sets and 3 putters. My WITB is a pitiful and painful experience. I blame all of you.

I was playing a local prefecture event here in Kyoto last Friday. Teed off in the pouring rain. Looked like it would rain the entire game. It was a course I've never seen before - a country club that you only get a chance to play if you play in one of the events or know someone. Blew my first drive OB. Birdied the next hole though. Then got on a bogey train until the 6th hole. I was approaching miserable - entering feeling sorry for myself territory.

 

Walking to the 6th green I noticed a deer - basically Bambi - on the other side of the green. As I walked toward it, I could see that it had got caught in the fence that surrounds the course -  a common steel wire type fencing... It's leg was gruesomely twisted in the steel wire. It wasn't long for the world. I tried to help it, but it's body weight was... So, I two putt for another bogey... (we called the course to come and take care of it).

 

Walking to the next hole I was kind of down, but the whole scene gave me a bit of perspective - It was just golf -  I hit a fairway with my drive, made a par and then played a couple over the rest of the way. Won the event by two shots.

When I first started taking up golf I had well above average swing speed but knew nothing. I was at my local Golf Galaxy one evening and it was pretty crowded. Ventured to the club bays and picked up a nice looking new demo Callaway driver at the time (listed at $349) and jumped into open bay. Hit 1-2 to warm ups about 80% and decided was feeling good and next one I went 100%...

I hit about 5 inches behind the ball into the mat causing the ball to shoot straight up to ceiling with a loud bang and the driver head went flying down range! I was literally left with about 3 people staring at me as I was holding just a clubshaft in my hands with no head attached as the shaft had snapped off near the hosel. I quietly put down the useless shaft to the wall and casually walked out the store before any workers had come by.

 

 

I've actually broken THREE clubs in my life when I first started. A driver at the store, and a 3w and an iron at grass range. I was a brute in swing speed with zero swing knowledge.

Fun times, walking around the PGA SS yesterday seeing what I don't need and heard a mighty grunt and ball hitting the screen so I went over to see the 300 yd swing. 

Turns out to be a young man giving his all, now the one swing I watched he took 10 waggles and 3 club pull back to check the position (very pro like) and did some of the cantaloo foot dancing and took a mighty lash at the ball. 

Perfect duck hook dribble about 100 yds,  but darn it he had the moves down and looked very serious about the whole process.

It would be a long day behind his group if that was his every shot routine not just the crush the driver setup. 

 

Got to love being young and having hope, I could hit that dribblier in a few seconds with no foot waggles.

In third grade, I cheated on my history exam. In fourth grade, I stole my uncle Max’s toupee and I glued it on my face when I was Moses in my Hebrew School play. In fifth grade, I knocked my sister Edie down the stairs and I blamed it on the dog…When my mom sent me to the summer camp for fat kids and then they served lunch I went nuts and I pigged out and they kicked me out…But the worst thing I ever done — I mixed a pot of fake puke at home and then I went to this movie theater, hid the puke in my jacket, climbed up to the balcony and then, then, I made a noise like this: hua-hua-hua-huaaaaaaa — and then I dumped it over the side, all over the people in the audience. And then, this was horrible, all the people started getting sick and throwing up all over each other. I never felt so bad in my entire life.

I got you beat! I started playing seriously again after a few years off just before the off season. I’ve acquired 5 sets of irons, 4 drivers, 3 3 woods, two wedge sets, and three putters in that short period. I’ve also sold some of it having never put it in the bag! Told myself Im not touching anything in the bag until I lose a few lbs and get to my target weight and shoot consecutive rounds in the 70’s. But when that happens…. The bst will know 😂

Btw these were my first 10~ 7 irons. Average about 170 ish even with a 160yd mishit. Including the last 2 at 174 and 176 carry

 

My normal sessions the longest I've ever averaged is 169 , if you take out the mishit this would be a 171 average 

 

So I was longer with every club by a bit more than you'd expect.

On this very night, ten years ago, along this same stretch of road in a dense fog just like this. I saw the worst accident I ever seen. There was this sound, like a garbage truck dropped off the Empire State Building.  And when they finally pulled the driver’s body from the twisted, burning wreck. It looked like…
