He played very well today though. 6 birdies and carried a pretty worthless Justin Thomas to a full point. The other guys failed to show up. Maybe the jet lag is getting them. Guess we'll see if they can figure it out in the next few days, lol

Reed should have been dropped from the team. He's toxic. I would never have wanted him on the team based on his antics at the last Ryder Cup but he definitely should have been dropped after the cheating and lying at the Hero.

 

I find it hard to root for the U.S. (and I'm an American).

I did not expect a 4-1 lead for the internationals, I know "nobody" cares about the Presidents Cup, but I'm not sure the American players would enjoy a defeat.

And the course is awesome, hard as hell it seems. Reminds me of the conditions we have here in Western Australia.

Amazes me that this doesn’t get talked about more often. I remember watching at the time and the reaction of Duval says it all. The crazy thing is that for as hard a chip as it was, I am pretty sure that people were sat thinking there is a 50-50 chance at worst that he holes it.

Well done to the Internationals, I simply could not see that score at the end of the first day but it should at least guarantee that the next couple of days are more interesting that expected.

I think this is the very definition of overreacting. The International team played pretty much the absolutely perfect day. X/Cantley had a hole out eagle against them on the first hole, they make 7 birdies on the day and still lose 1up. Ooost/Ancer make 8 birdies in 15 holes to win their match.

I do wonder how much the timing of the event this time around affects the US team. Some of these guys havent played competitive golf since August - with the travel on top of that.

Lets wait until the singles matches. I still think the US team has the top to bottom advantage.

So the US team was @ -250 to win this before the event, I havent looked to see what the updated odds are but I'd be very tempted to bet on them if they were plus money.

I am happy to blame the wrap around season, for anything I get can away with blaming it for!

Totally agree they had a couple of really great performances and we had a bunch of real duds. So we'll get our share over four days.

Still, I really don't care about the President's Cup so I'm not going to complain about any outcome. I did enjoy the looks at Royal Melbourne, tough approaches to the greens and it was pretty cool how some greens really did have "the" spot you needed to land on.

U.S. goes even 3-2 today and right back in it pretty easily.
