Not saying "should," Jeff. Just wondering at what point the issue gets raised.

agree ... besides, this is another example, in a long list, of reed's questionable actions ... that everyone knows it was an obvious intention is probably good enough ... i dare say this will affect his chances at being a captain's pick down the line ... maybe not to a large degree, but at least it will make someone think twice about it ...

Intent had nothing to do with either one. As I remember, Kuchar was removing loose impediments, or at least that was the ruling. The gray area there wasn't his intent, but at what size do pebbles become sand. Reed removed "sand or loose soil" in the area of his intended swing. It doesn't matter if his actual intended swing path would have cleared the original sand by 1/4", it was definitely in the area. "Its my word against their word, they weren't standing there" Complete BS. To me, that's the worst thing Reed said in his comments, that somehow his intent was being questioned. Not at all, his actions were being penalized. The other was his attitude that someone else decided to penalize him. He'd have been much better off to simply say "I realize now that I see the video that I broke the rule, the penalty is right" and stop trying to justify why he didn't really think he'd done anything wrong.

I agree with you on one thing, I don't like the introduction of intent as a basis for an infraction. But there's no intent in this one.

Not many decent professionals left, I'm afraid. Everything is the fault of the rules, or the camera, or they just play dumb and hope for the best

I got home from work yesterday and me and the family went out to eat supper and didn't get on here or check the leaderboard. I got out early this morning with a buddy to play golf and he filled me in on this latest P Reed fiasco. First thought was I bet WRX is lit up about this! Y'all haven't disappointed! Personally not a Reed fan and this doesn't surprise me. Just wondering what the next self destructive thing is he will do.

And other sports strip titles, issue lifetime bans, etc. Those are all essentially possible legal actions other than simply criminal prosecution.

I personally feel like this is a very big deal, and goes way beyond the typical, "receive a penalty and move on" infractions we see every year. Especially after seeing that video of him doing the exact same thing a few years ago, it's pretty plainly something he does all the time, unless you want to really, really work to convince yourself it's just random, innocent error. I personally think the PGA needs to come down MUCH harder on this than just issuing penalty strokes. The guy is a known and well documented cheat...why is he even teeing it up?

I laughed at this, because if by "PR" you meant either "Public Relations" or "Patrick Reed", either way you are right. ?

We'd like the game a lot less without "intent" being a part of some Rules. Many Rules distinguish between accidental and deliberate behaviour. (Rule 8.1a does not include intent as a part of the player's actions.)

Rule 1 demands that the player act with integrity . . . to be honest. One of the first questions the guy with a badge and a radio often asks is, "What were you trying to do?"

Knowledge of the Rules is part of the applied skill set which a player must use to play competitive golf.

It's funny that so many of you get your panties into such wads over this. Almost every tour pro does things that bend the rules to improve the bad lies they have. As already brought up earlier in the thread, Kooch picking pieces of sand up behind his ball; even Tiger and YJS have bent the rules to their advantage. I know, Reed didn't just bend the rules here, obvious penalty there. Just funny how many people want to just shit on Reed bc he is a bit of a douch. I would say that Sergio Garcia has displayed much worse in his career that Reed.

francis, no one's getting their underwear bunched up here ... most guys have not, in fact, done something this obvious and intentional ... they all have cameras on them ... and sergio is know for crass and childish behavior, not improving his lie ... reed has displayed a PATTERN ... a repetitive PATTERN ... of questionable behavior ... me thinks it's your ladies underwear that is bunched up ... not that there's anything wrong with that ...

Guy worried about fellow members panties......….If he cheated , he cheated...….It doesn't matter if every other pro in the history of the came cheats......It doesn't matter if Kucher cheats on every hole in every tournament...…..He cheated and then to make himself look worse, he lied about it. I have found that anyone who makes excuses and plays down a cheating episode probably cheats himself.

He improved his lie not just once, but multiple times on that shot

You have to wonder if Reed did all that to turn people against him because he plays better when it’s Reed against the world.

Was talking about this with my homey as we were arriving and getting set up at the course today and some old guy rolled by, clearly heard our conversation and he shouted "FUCK PATRICK REED THAT MOTHERFUCKER! Rory would have called it on himself!"

I mean, I can't disagree with any of that.

The original GC footage showed Reed hitting the sand more than once with his practice swings. That's not news. The video in the tweet doesn't show Reed hitting the sand 8 or 9 times. As for the second part your take makes as much sense as people saying Reed did this on purpose to sell more of his new irons. Both statements have zero merit. Reed didn't need this incident to turn people against him. People have been turned off by Reed for quite some time. That hasn't helped him to play better.

Didn't the New Orleans Saints try the court thing a few years back over a missed or incorrect call during a game? I do not keep up with football but remember hearing about it on the news. I think they got laughed out of court

I had reserved comment on this thread until I actually saw the film clip. My first thought was exactly what you said. Common Sense in that case would dictate the camera would be on him since he was leading the event. Goes to show I guess he does not have any common sense at all. That was as blatant cheating as the day is long. I used to stand up for him some because I always stand up for the person being picked on but in his case no more. Yeah in real life if we are playing golf or even racing if you beat me you beat me. If we are playing golf for money I will pay off and say well you waxed my butt. But do not cheat me to beat me. Yep I hope his fellow pros give him HE double hockey sticks for this blatant cheating. He had to know

No one in this thread that I remember mentioned that he brushed the sand multiple times, but yes 8-9 times seems high.

Wouldn’t surprise me if Reed needs wave after wave of people turning against him to get him jacked up. It’s his addiction.

LOL I am old enough to know the song and besides they play it quite a bit on the Beach Oldie Goldies station here----- Footnote I see you have a rare "DJ" or promotional copy there. Yep maybe they can borrow your 45 and play it next year at 16 in the Wasted Management Open when he steps up to #16.
