Reed's Caddy in an "altercation"

not good but at same time, it would be tough not to react that way. When you get heckled for a few days in a row and lose all your matches and someone runs up to you saying saying offensive stuff, can be very hard to hold back. I would want my caddie into have my back. Anyway, reed put himself in that situation

In that situation many of you would have folded much earlier. Golf on the level can be pretty stressful and intense.

Tiger asked about Reed “situation”

”we came here as a team. We rally around our teammate. And looking forward to the matches.”

Said some things that the galleries have said have been over the top.

Also basically said,

it’s a small venue with bottlenecks, some people have had too much to drink. Partisanship is part of these competitions. And we just ask that they are respectful.

It's not in good sport to heckle players and be negative to them but Reed is not a likeable guy and is now a confirmed cheater. Until a fan physically touches a player, nothing they are doing is "illegal".. it's simply just poor sportsmanship. Players AND caddies need to block it out and put their big boy pants on because this kind of scenario is happening more and more in golf. Didn't we have similar talks in the US Open and PGA thread when the tourniess were in the NYC area? People getting rowdy, drinking... all that kind of stuff. It happens. Expect it. Deal with it professionally.

The difference is, we are not professional touring golfers or caddies, so how we might react is irrelevant. You can't excuse his caddies actions, in any circumstance. The guy crossed the line and took it to another level. Regardless of what the fan said, verbal and physical are two different levels, not to mention, the fan paid for the ticket, they can heckle and chirp all they want. The road team expected a difficult environment, and Reed made his bed, he has to lay in it now. I played pro hockey, and someone yelling "you f@@king suck" is about as mundane and routine a chirp as there is.

According to witness of altercation between Reed’s caddie & fan at Presidents Cup: The fan was swearing, Kessler Karain confronted him and there was a shove and a punch that made contact with the fan’s shirt. Contact was initiated by Karain.

The initiated contact and "punch" is, and is going to be, the problem.

When you're winning and doing things like sshhing the crowd, cupping your ear to crowd reactions, and pretending to mock your own cheating by digging with a shovel...you're basically asking for it from the fans. He's provoking them. If he wants to do those antics when he's playing well, he better be able to take a F you when he's losing. Can't have it both ways.

I've watched all but maybe a couple of hours of coverage and these fans are not as bad as some other Ryder cups others have mentioned above.

PGA will go soft on the caddy. He pushed, and took a swing at a fan...how can he try justifying that? PGA will try to make this go away.

More stuff like this is gonna keep happening across sports. People feel more entitled to yell a lot of pretty horrible stuff than they used to it seems. A lot of perceived "ownership " or public domain of the players. Like you make all this money so I can do and say whatever I want.

The NBA is dealing with this a lot. Fans are really close to the action and in the past few years theres been multiple cases of fans getting banned from stadiums, surprised theres been nothing more physical there

Its bound to happen. I'm not surprised. The caddy got suspended which he deserved and hopefully the fan did too

Spectators cannot be assaulted by a player or caddie at all. Notwithstanding the fact that the fan was out of line. Kessler won’t ever caddie on the tour again. Deservedly so.

Technically speaking, getting in someone’s face and yelling “you suck” can be construed as Breach of Peace/Disorderly Conduct-type of crime, and would therefore be “illegal”.

I’m no Patrick Reed fan, but really, the heckling that goes on in some of these team events just needs to stop. Cheating is bad, but equally bad is the boorish, drunken behavior displayed by too many “fans”. Unlike the WM, where for the most part everything is good-natured, there really nothing fun or funny about it here.

Reed brought all of this on himself with his cheating, ego and provoking the crowd with his digging move. Shushing when you win is fun and banter but pretending you’re shoveling is trying to normalize the fact that you cheated and on top of that you lose all your matches. As said before he reveled in it when the America crowd needles the opposition and now the shoe is on the other foot he doesn’t like it. I’m sure at some point he’ll claim to be the “victim”. That’s one thing he seems to be good at.

at Bethpage I personally saw a drunk douchebag about two feet from Rory while walking up the hill from 17 to 18 grab his crotch and said, Right here Rory, you f’in suck...Rory smiles at him and said “thanks” as he walked by. The guy was disarmed and looked like a complete AssH. This was at the end of a long day and he was hearing it all day. Class vs white trash.

Hahaha..

The only standard being held to is that he is a pro. If this had happened at a muni or your club I would expect an altercation. But because they are pros all is fair game. At least this is what I am hearing. These idiots drunk or not probably feel the same, much like a keyboard warrior with the web as a shield. Did you hear that derp the last few hole yesterday?

You may be too young, but back in the day goofball attorney Robin Ficker brought it to what was then considered an almost over the top art form --- tame by today's standards. I still remember watching SportsCenter one night and them showing the Bulls at Washington. Jordan had claimed often he never read "The Jordan Rules" - they had a shot of Ficker in the crowd behind Jordan endlessly reading excerpts from the book, lol. Surprised I could find a pic. At the time it was hilarious.
