That's Webb's sixth PGA Tour win. And he moves to #7 in the world right behind Tiger.

 

Six wins, one is a US Open, one is a TPC and $38,000,000 in earnings to date.

 

Not bad. A couple more wins and the teeth gnashing about Webb possibly being in the Hall of Fame can begin.

I know I’m biased, but Nate Lashley was inside the top 10 all weekend and they didn’t show one shot of his until the putt on 15 th hole today. But we got to see Daniel Berger?

 

EDIT: I think they might have shown his tee shot on #16 Sat.

I don’t get all the dislike for Webb’s game. Comments all the time on wrx are about the hate of bomb and gouge and cookie cutter looking swings and here is Simpson-#7in the rankings now- and most dislike him. Is it because they see his swing and realize they are many many strokes per round worse than that? Are they jealous of the pretty wife?

 

I gotta admit I admire the game and career. Here is a guy seemingly much less athletically gifted than most of his peers and yet he is one of the best in the world. He just finished making birdie on the last three holes-last TW in regulation when facing a two back deficit and they birdie in the playoff to win.Both of those holes seemingly favored the much longer Finau.

 

So why the “hate”?

Don’t hate him, don’t love him - don’t know him. Just find his play bland, dry, and unappealing. No doubt he is a very good player and I wish I had his skill/game, however, overall I simply find him not that entertaining. Unsure about this other “dislike” that you reference.

Agreed. He earned better coverage as he was right there all week. Hopefully he’ll notch another win soon.

This was the first time I’ve seen Tony get a lot of coverage. He can be a stroke or two off the lead and he’s a ghost. It pays to be in the lead in the last group. He looks like he has several wins in his future.

IMO, like many aspects in life, it is not about how you look and deliver. It is about how you finish. I do not agree with WS fast Gonzalez tempo but it works for him. WS has the best SG and scoring avg on tour.

I agree. I've tremendous respect for him as a player. He's won a US Open, went winless for nearly 5 years until winning again in 2018, and also bounced back from frankly poor Ryder Cup performance in 2014 to be undefeated in the 2018 competition, picking up 2.5 points including a singles win.

He competes against players who are much longer off the tee than him, yet still gets it done. He can Play.

I am actually a Webb Simpson fan. Probably the only one on this forum lol.

He probably has done the best with his putting since the anchor ban out of all the players who were affected.

Felt awful yesterday so when Finau was two clear with two to go, I decided that it was time for lights out and some sleep...looks like Webb then proceeded to play lights out for the next three holes including the playoff.

Speaking for me. It’s not hate. I’d normally pull for Webb. But. I would rather see Tony win. There’s something about watching that much talent wasted that irks me. Then you throw in the armlock putter and I swing Tony’s way.

but normally vs the Charlie Hoffman’s of the world , I’d pull for Webb.

I think Tony could benefit from a session with Brad Faxon regarding his putting. I mean just look at his grip! Dude needs to free his mind with the short stick a little bit.

I'm a fan of both Webb and Tony and was happy for either to win. Tony is going to break though soon. I'm not sure I understand the dislike for WS at all. He has an Interesting swing that is clearly very solid at impact and is a nice guy on top of it.

I watched every minute of the televised round yesterday as im a fan of both Finau and Simpson. Wife and kids were on me to get going on the grill for the superbowl dinner. I finally started prepping and handling the grill when they were teeing off on the 17th hole. I totally figured Finau had it in the bag and had to get this dinner done before kickoff. I was so happy for Finau and was thinking thats amazing that he finally has that "mamba mentality" that he was mentioning this week. Needless to say that I was very deflated as I finally sat down and seeing them tee off on the first playoff hole, and watch him hook his driver.

 

Hats off to Simpson he earned it.

The announcers mentioned more than a few times how "short" Webb is. Doesn't seem to bother Webb though.

Webb played really well and to get into the playoff was brilliant.

He does have a dodgy swing in him every now and again but the man is a baller at the moment.

Felt bad for Tony and he really steadied down from the back 9. The guy just needs a bit more of a 'killer' mentality.

it looks like Webb has perfectly timed "throwing" his club head at the ball at impact. its an extra whip. but yah he is one of the more pedestrian ball speeds on tour.

Webb gets credit for his late birdies (impressive), although I felt bad for TF losing late.

I love Simpsons game. I especially enjoy his putting. It drives me crazy to see someone like JB Holmes look, relook, back away, look again. MAKE A F***ING DECISION already. I enjoy that Webb sizes up the putt, asks for advice from his caddie-quickly (not a debate), makes a decision and pulls the trigger. That's how it should be. I also enjoy that even though he's not long off the tee (by Tour standards-he's still longer than 99% of amateur golfers) but understands that. Rather than CHASING distance (looking at you Spieth) he understands that that is not his game. IRONically, Tiger is coming to the same conclusion now. Get it in play, play lights out with your irons and approaches, and sink putts. It works. I love it.
