2021 Callaway Epic Speed Max - Leaked Photo

I thought it looked great in person.  The green flake is similar to the blue in the Bertha... Very subtle.  

 

The sound is very familiar to the original epic.  

 

Shape is more pear shape than previous callaway, but not what the tsi3 is.  

 

I liked it...alot.  it's like an epic with the ai face.  I can't wait to try it with a shaft that actually works for me.

I’m personally not a fan of having the product name on the crown of drivers - I’d much prefer a cleaner setup like the TSI3. The Mizuno Drivers have the white line around the edge, but no product name.

And the 'Max' is the most 'traditional' shaped of the 3 like the Mavrik standard is?

So I have to admit that after the additional pictures were posted, the Epic Speed Max’s looks are starting to grow on me, Lol! Not crazy about all the green, but it’s got kind of a cool high-tech look and probably prefer the green to the Mavrik orange...kind of like an upgraded Rogue. Will be interesting to see how it performs, and will give it a shot along with the other 2021 releases!

I like the color and look of the bottom but when we address the ball we dont see the bottom. Looks like it will be a good one.

I still don't understand why they put the TSi there, not distracting but that always seemed 'cheap' to me.  Like when TM used R11S as an alignment aid. 😐

Can anyone comment on what makes the Max and Max LS different (other than head size and shape)?  How will one be lower spin than the other?  I see no front weight in the Max LS which I believe is supposed to replace the SZ, but its Jailbreak bars/plate appear to be more angled to me from the pics compared to that of the Max.

I think it’s going to be a combo of face height, head shape and weight placement in relation to face height that contributes to the spin profile of the head. Or more simply put; CG manipulation.

Maybe it’s because it’s meant to look more like an alignment aid at the front of the head rather than at the back of the crown - it seems fine to me.

Less business on the crown graphics look like a big improvement, regardless of how much is going on on the bottom, so that makes me far more inclined to like these ones. But i really don't see why companies feel the need to make the color scheme so prominent in the look at address? The cheap Blue edge on Sim 2, orange line around the crown on Mav, Green on the new Cobra, etc, etc. I understand the value of product differentiation, but some of these colors are legitimate non-starters. And the Callys would have to be head and shoulders above the rest to justify the extra cost of Customs, for me anyway. 🤷‍♂️

 

Bottom line, this one looks cleaner. If it slaps, I could be convinced...

Saw the epic speed driver the other day. Top down it looks the same as any callaway driver released over the last five years. Sole appears brighter in pics than in real life. I'll be playing one this season.

Seems like they could have at least made the green at the bottom of the jailbreak bars the same color as the rest of the green on the sole or vice versa. 

Now that I think about it, I prefer the shade of green by the jail break bars. They should have used that shade for the other green painted areas too.

IDK if this is a Callaway fan thread but I'm really becoming less and less impressed with their releases each year... Not sure why. It's not like they are making a bad product, but rather I think companies like Cobra and Titleist are catching up quite a bit and putting out much more appealing clubs right now.

 

Since drivers are and have been maxed out for a while... getting the looks and sound right has to be a critical design feature, and in my opinion Callaway is on the bottom of that list for the past 3-4 years. Hopefully this version of Epic has a nice muted sound and doesn't sound like an aluminum baseball bat.

I fully own that I’m a big Callaway guy, but I will say I have demoed pretty much everything and find that Callaway always wins in ball speed over everything else.  Not huge differences of course, but since I agree that we are “maxed” out, I do think there is something to a design that always produces that little extra.  I’m guessing this one will be no different and I plan to pick one up.
