I'll add to this......LW had 54 holes leads and didn't get it done in back 2 back weeks......whether it's choking or not playing well enough we gotta admit that THE MOMENT is getting in his head despite the new attitude with golf ......I love his new thoughts but you can't tell me he doesn't react to THE MOMENT......he's grinding harder and hanging in there BUT doesn't close in these MOMENTS.....not saying the choke term but certainly the inability to Close term.

Given how focused you are on this "moment" stuff, I probably couldn't tell you that.  Dude has won 44 times all over the world.  Race to Dubai winner last year, which could have an asterisk for several reasons, but Morikawa and Reed were in position to win it last year, and didn't do it.  Did the "moment" get to them as well?

I suppose you are a firm believer in "back-door top 10s" as well.

Win what RTD? Totally different comparison when Fitzpatrick won the final event while Westwood won the overall.....not sure how you're comparing the two.......72 hole events so no back door top 10s.....JT shot 12 under on weekend and LW shot 4....... LW had 2 shot 54 hole lead but struggled with every aspect of his game.....he never looked comfortable hence THE MOMENT got to him in appearance especially since he had just gone through the same thing the previous week!

LW in a near 30yr career has won worldwide yes...... anything big? Not order of merit , not RTD.....especially not RC.....but what has he won without using Google?  I'm not sure if he's won BMW PGA, Scottish Open, French Open......Golf de Espana.......great ballstriker who hates the high draw .......but what's his BIG win?

I looked......1998 Scottish;  1997 Australian

Lol, the question isn’t why LW didn’t close.

Hes 47! He’s never closed big events in the US.

He’s known as a great ball striker who putts like he’s wearing Arctic mittens and just polished of a bottle on tequila

His girlfriend is his caddie! She’s either an actress or a yoga instructor, something, not sure, very charming but she ain’t Bones.

So, the question is not why LW didn’t close

The question is why 2 entire fields of the very top, young, uber, fit, trained, guys got beat by LW except for 2 guys.

And those 2 guys who beat Lee are the best of the best yet needed 72 holes to take him down.

Its a reality check on how good these guys really are if Lee Westwood, Paul Casey, and Sergio are eating their lunches for them ; )

DAAMMMMMMMNNNNNN STRAIGHT!

Westwood is like a Dodge Dart with a slant 6

He will keep his pace and will win if everybody on the track blows up, but if he needs to accelerate down the stretch to win - it ain't happening

I think he realizes that and is content in that role- nothing wrong with his strategy at this point in his career

he has been amazing.....doesnt change the fact he let the pressure eat him up down the stretch and made him hit bad shots all day.  finishing 2nd at the players is amazing...but imagine if he didnt let the pressure get to him?

Seems like he did mighty fine to hit it as poorly as you say and still shoot even par with no putter. 😊

For the record I don’t think he choked either. Hitting bad shots is not necessarily a choke job. Golf is not a game of flip the switch and play well. For most of us anyway.

very true....he finished 2nd as we know...but he shot +1 in the final round and lost.....we all know he had back to back stellar tournaments....but he lost it on the last day late in the matches spraying it all over the course and missing makeabe putts....

2.6 million richer though....he was smart using his finance....10% caddie winnings stay in the family  🙂

So Bryson cracked his 4 iron after the shot in the water on 3.  I said that to myself at the time. That it took off like a shot from a cracked face.  To be honest the 3 wood off the tee did too.   Just like a wounded bird.  These multi piece hollow iron heads won’t stand that for long.

The 3-wood was simply hit north of the equator. No "cracked face" there whatsoever.

Right.  I know the slow mo showed that.  But in real time my knee jerk was to say “ he may have just split the face “.

then today I read that he actually did crack the face of the 4 iron on the next shot.

i can see this being a frequent issue with him as Hard as he goes at it.

If he's like a Dodge Dart, does that mean any swing faults he has can be fixed with a bit of duct tape?

I’m not buying the cracked 4 iron thing. For as much as he complains on the course (I wonder if they have improved the bunkers at Bay Hill yet) I cannot think of hearing him once mention it. If he had truly broken the 4 iron, I am sure that we would have heard about whilst he was on the course. Besides the players and their caddies, we had the on course guys, cameras inside the ropes and no mention was made of it until after the round when Bryson gets into the press room. I’m placing the 4 iron breaking into the same category as the dog ate my homework.

Could be.  I was kind of surprised he’d say that at all.  Given it may look bad on his equipment manufacturer to the uninformed player at home.

I think choked is a personal type take.

me - I don’t really care for the word as it rarely is applicable in my opinion.

to me the only time choke is used on myself is if I chicken out.  As In not try my best.  Maybe it’s a mental coping mechanism to not call your own short comings a choke ?  I don’t know.  But I choose to not use that label when I know I did all I could do and it didn’t work.   I suspect Lee feels the same way.

Quick labeling any loss as “ a choke “ simply is refusing to see any positives and focusing on the negative.  In my opinion
