PING G430 - Are They Finally Going Back to a Carbon Fiber Crown?

Today I saw and ordered G430 LST 10.5.  I saw the Max 3 wood but not the Ti, the G430 irons and new Anser.   I ordered the Ti LST sight unseen.  I also didn't get a chance to hit the woods because I'm a lefty.  I didn't inquire about release date.  If it's anything like the i525 then I'm guessing release is about 2-3 months away.

I don't want to get anyone "in trouble" so I won't divulge any specifics (sorry) except to say the clubs looked great.  From what was discussed, the the drivers should make many people happy.  And I am amazed what engineers come up with when it comes to problem solving and the G430 irons.  I've never played a G series iron and this won't change that (too much bounce and offset) but I think what they did was pretty neat.

So if you were thinking of getting G425 irons (and there wasn't any great urgency), would you hold off until G430 was released?

That's a tough call because of what I was told with this bit of engineering work.  I can't give any hints and I apologize for that.  When explained the "problem" I thought there could've been a number of solutions but the one they chose was something I thought was just very creative.  And apparently it has a quantifiable effect.

Let me tell you about what I did and maybe this helps your decision.  The i500 was the best iron set I ever played and there was no close second.  Something just worked with them.  But I hated the sound/feel so much I tried to replace them with about a half dozen sets.  I ordered the i525 well before the general public knew they were coming out.  I was one of the first people to get a set.  I sold my i500 to make a clean break.  And you know what?  I hated the i525.  Yes the sound and feel was improved.  But something was changed and I don't know what.  Same shafts that were in i500 but I hit i525 lower and all over the face.  I'm on i59 now.  Meanwhile my handicap went from a 2 to some much higher number.  I don't even keep score outside of 9 holes of weekly league play.  Not all the irons fault but you know how this stupid game goes.  Confidence is everything.

So if it were me and I hit the G425 well, had no complaints regarding them, and could take advantage of a price drop (if and when that happens) I would buy those. If I were patient - and I am not - I would hit both because I think you would see differences and it's impossible for me to say if those are good or bad differences for you.

When you are allowed, will you tell us the "problem" and engineering solution?

Gladly.  I put problem in quotes because it's not really a problem.  I said what is this and then it was explained to me and I thought man that's pretty ingenious.

Also I won't be saying where I saw these as I enjoy my perk.  They are not in any stores as far as I know.  I'm just some normal slob that is lucky enough to have certain people think enough of me to share these things with.

I just want to know if the turbulators are there or are they gone? I’ve got the 400Max and it’s great, but I don’t like the look at address because of them.

Not sure if you can share this @blazman11, but generally speaking, are the fairway woods and hybrids still basically the same shape Ping's last few generations have had?

I'm sure they will do something about the sound but I would be surprised if they get rid of the turbulators as there will be some sort of fin to help with your swing speed

Like RadSpeed and G425 had a baby. I may be in the minority hoping for turbulators on the FW again
