Tiger Update (Masters 2022) *** MERGED ***

Spending 3+ months in a hospital bed has to be excruciatingly difficult. From his interview, he seems like he has accepted that he may not play the PGA tour again, but I think he is just thinking conservatively. If he gets back to 100%, I'd bet he would play a full schedule. Tiger is too competitive to just sit if he was healthy enough and his game was good enough to compete at the highest level.

I'm not sure how Tiger's future is any different than where it was in the past decade if he can get back on the course.  He has been selective on PGA Tour events forever.

He'll likely play:

  • The majors
  • 1-2 Tournaments before each major to get tuned up
  • His own tournament

10-13 tournaments a year and I think that's enough.

This is just him setting the bar low.  I don’t see a limited schedule as any different than the last 3-4 years.  He will play as often as he feels like.  Same same.

Press conference on, asked about "when will you return, maybe PNC?".  His response was "no idea about a return to the tour.  Like casual return, a round or two here and there.  Now like the idea of forward tees.  Eye opening to see my shots fall out of the sky much shorter than before.  Will keep everyone abreast about a return to golf."

So didn't answer the PNC question.  I don't expect him to until the last day, which I think is some day next week...maybe this Friday?  I had PNC ticket purchases queued up if he said he was playing 🙂

In the video Tiger appeared sober, which is a good thing. For the past 15 year I think Tiger has suffered from the effects of prescription medications and if he is able to get off the meds that will be better for him and his family  than any golf achievement.

Tigerrrr!

On 📺!

He look tired. Say he got no idea when he be able to play a tour event.

He getting the ball in the air, but not too far lol, and at least feel like he can “participate in the sport of golf”

Says he has no memory of accident. Good answer ; )

Walked through his progression after back surgery. No pain, then power, then shoot scores, ok I can do this and play full time.

But, now with leg, he can’t see a similar path forward yet with any visibility. But, he can see getting in shape one day to play a few events a year possibly.

Says he has played full holes of golf.

Indian reporter asked if he’ll will feel bad if he lets down his “billions of fans”, TW smiling.

Says he has some pain in his back and leg right now during interview.

Said his children have mostly known him injured during their lives. They were surprised he could actually play golf 🤣

Ahhh, here’s TW saying he’d love to win the Open again. St Andrews his favorite course. Loves the dinners there, the stories from the old timers.

This guy, he got all the cash 💰 yo! Just his haircut and facial do trim cost like $1000!

this is assuming we (the average golf fan) ever knew who he was as a human…

that’s a bit much to say…

I think it’s more like, “wow, Tiger has progressed in how much he reveals himself to the public”.

The head pro at my course had a fusion and when I asked him about Tiger playing competitively, let alone winning the masters, he said that, to him, was the most impressive thing Tigers ever done. He said after getting his back fused he can't bend, he can't swing. Nothing about the way he moves with a golf club is remotely close to what he was before. He went from close to scratch to like a 20 handicap post-surgery.

Tiger isn't human. All other standards should not apply. Clearly he will and should do whatever he wants to do but I don't think the words "Tiger" and "can't" should be in the same sentence.

Apparently Patrick Cantlay requires hours of work on his body from trainers before he goes out to play, I think Tiger is in that same camp right now. Probably a lot of before and after treatment, just makes it very hard to do that for 15+ weeks, plus travel, plus just walking ~30 miles each week, factor in all his other commitments and family. As said above, he's dealing with a fused back and probably a very messed up leg, not even factoring in every other ailment he's had.

He seemed pretty confident to me that he will play the Tour again. He’s never getting back to 100%. He hasn’t been 100% in 10-15 years, and that was before this year’s accident. His back surgeries have kept him from ever returning to 100%. At this point in his career, Tiger would be happier just playing a very limited schedule and trying to pick off a couple more events. He wants to be able to have a somewhat normal rest of his life and going back to a regular Tour schedule would destroy that.

Of course Tiger will play a limited schedule.

The Tiger Fairwell Tour could go on for a couple of seasons, Ticket sales would be monumental,

Seems like a viable option , winning a tournament would be the bonus.

That said, hoping for the best recovery possible,

Yep! Nailed it’s they are some of the funniest fans around.  The #1 funniest “fans” are the flip side guys that claim Tiger is not all that.🤣

Tiger has been a part time player for many years anyway, but this feels like the start of the final act of a long running super hit show.

Whatever schedule Tiger has played in the past, he’s pretty much guaranteed that it’s going to be smaller now

Didn't get that at all from the interview.  He said he's not even at a point where he can think about making a decision about deciding if he can even try to get back to the Tour or if he even wants to.  I think it was beyond wishful thinking that he could tee it up in the PNC, let alone the Masters in 5 months.

when you train hard, you get swole.. 🙂

His shoulders, traps, arms, look jacked.. ie: he's been training on his upper body.

He said he got huge triceps by using crutches, but lost that definition. His arms do look huge. He had to work something out all year.

Justin Thomas said he’s going to try and yesterday Tiger said he would only play a limited Tour schedule. He’s definitely going to try to make a comeback, he’s just not giving a timetable.
