Yep.  And 00 pebble at the open was second.

1.  Pebble

2.  00 St. Andrews really doesn't get talked about enough.  He didn't win by as big a margin, because some others came to play for a few days, but he was dialed in that week on the level he was at Pebble.

3.  Hoylake.   Iron clinic.  Haney had destroyed his driver swing by that point.

Bottom line is Tiger most likely needs to feel his best to just be able to tee it up, where as younger, healthy guys can play when the stars don't align. He also needs to summon more on the course/through the tournament to compensate for the pain. So can he win a big one again, maybe, but it might have to line up with having his body right and having a course that he can win on. Different from Phil, whose main hurdle is more motivation than it probably is body issues (though Phil has a few of them as well).

Real question is which tournaments will he play? Just major tournament or ones he can actually win, basically have a Kevin Na schedule.

Only real X factor is if he can physically walk around the course/practice enough, but if he can, his speed isn’t the issue. At the PNC, unless the tv ball speed numbers were juiced, he was high 160s/low170 ball speed. From last year, hideki and spieth both just under 173 ball speed average, sungjae 170, Oosthie 169, Morikawa 169. Plenty of top ranked guys who contend in and win majors are in the 170 ballpark. With a little more rehab and recovery time and if he can stay in that 170-175 range with his iron game and short game, golf IQ, experience and other intangibles, do we really think he can’t compete?

He’s just as long as Morikawa. And that’s with the bum leg still. To watch Tiger do what he’s done already is defying odds. His surgeon even said that he did not think the tiger would ever be able to compete again. Maybe make some guest appearances but never played to a level like he did this weekend.

QFT.

I figure a lot of us are old enough to remember professional golf before Tiger. For you kids who aren't ... I'm not sure it's possible to completely comprehend just how insane those performances were when they happened if you hadn't been following golf before Augusta '97. To watch it in real time, it was like ... this cannot be real.

There will never be a performance in a major championship even remotely like his complete dismantling of the field at Pebble. Never.

Lot of golfers are chasing distance. But this affects accuracy off the Tee, hello Bryson and phil. With that much speed, the ball will certainly spray left and right. However, it will rarely help but WILL if you look at Bryson - US Open championship. The odds are against you if you just work on distance. However Tiger can and WILL (with exception) win with averaging 280yards of the Tee...This is how.

1. Staying in fairway! Get that fade 100% accurate.

2. Using Players Distance clubs to assist with long iron. This will REDUCE stress on his body -  Changing TW Blades 3i - 6i to cavity back in long irons. D, 3w, 5w, 3ut , 4i-6i cb, 7i-9i blades. Even Viktor Hovland uses Ping i210 cast cavity back to help him go for accuracy.

3. Practice his short game and putting will be his ammo (sink those 10 ft putts). We certainly saw that at PNC.

4. Staying healthy and not do stupid sh!t.

He spend of lot of time swinging fast. Now its time to show case 'ol skool' Tiger with his best iron game and sinking those 10 footers.

Tiger will be back in couple of years.

Tiger has been very strict in his equipment. He still plays the same set up basically 3i-60*.  While he could tweak a couple things to gain a half to full club throughout the bag, I don’t think that adds much benefit for him specifically. But, the top end of his bag could be adjusted to gain 10-15 yards and essentially gain a club through the bag. He’s never really set up his driver equipment or swing to really get maximum yardage. Everyone’s 170-175 ball speed doesn’t equate to same distances. I think Tiger could tweak and gain 10-15 yards.

Agree here.  He just last week praised the new driver for having weight closer to the face.  This allows him to turn it both ways.  That’s not the speak of a guy who is chasing max distance.  He’s praising a driver for having a lower forward cog.

lightning in a bottle if he wins a major again

Masters is his only chance

He could easily win St Andrews, or any Open. Power isn't the main play there, as Bryson found out. Especially with the changeable weather, Tiger could easy win that week with some sharp irons and putting.

After watching yesterday's clinic, made me remember something that Butch Harmon said about Tiger.  "He only needs 280 off the tee and he can beat everybody with his iron game."  Have to say maybe he was onto something, I mean did Tiger even miss an iron shot yesterday?  Yes it was best ball but think about it...paired with his son who's 12 they shot a 57 and he's no where near 100%?!?

If a player is accurate 265 yard tee shots is long enough to shoot 65 on a 7,300 yard golf course at sea level.

And Hogan as good or better iron  player

Mike Austin could hit a frozen turd further .    Nobody hit the ball better .  Hogan knew it ,  Jack knew it , Trevino knew it ,  Bobby Jones knew it , all knew it .

But there Ego's got into the way.  Idols is not a way to live.  The only man , that knew Tiger was going to have back and knee injuries long before anyone .

Shame on the teachers that didn't know how to swing the club without injury.

Over 300 yards for their overall yearly average? Maybe yes.

But Morikawa won the WGC Workday Championship with a 285.6 driving distance average.

I'm sure there are other examples of guys winning in 2021 averaging just 280-300 yards off the tee.

Tiger will have plenty of distance once he is in better shape. He just needs time to rebuild strength in the right leg.

How do the PGATOUR measure distance off the tee? Do they use two drives per round? Do they use all drives? How can I find the driving distance for each tournament winner?

Maybe I should present these questions to the board......

Dude's 46 years old and could barely stay on the course the last two seasons due to his back injuries.  Add in the leg injury and, well, I think it's wishful thinking in the extreme to think he can regularly walk 25 miles over the course of 4 days and be at the top of the leaderboard.

LOL!.....True, time for Tiger to concentrate on his golf design business, unless he can catch lightening in a bottle at the Open Championship.....IMO
