This club dropping/throwing really needs to stop.

My 12 year old started dropping clubs about a month ago... I never taught him that. I told him next time he drops a club, I will gladly take that club back into my garage... He hasnt dropped a club since.

I was like 13 or something - just on that verge where I was starting to show some talent - and was out playing with my dad. Hit a bad drive and proceeded to chuck my driver (that he, of course, bought) down the fairway. He'd already teed off and was sitting in the cart and right after I threw it, he just took off headed straight for it. Picked it up, put it in his bag, took my bag off the cart and dropped it on the ground and took off again.

I'm standing there on the tee all " ... uh."

Walked to my bag, played the hole and finally caught up to him on the green. Before I could say anything, he simply said "You better learn to hit your 3W hard." "Huh?" "Every club you throw, I keep."

As a bonus, I had to walk the rest of the round at hilly AF Carolina Lakes in the NC summer.

I never threw a club again.

My last club toss was a very loong time a go at a member/guest tournament at a Private club (I was the guest). About 5 holes in a gave gentle toss... and the next thing we knew there was fellow telling me that I can either pay a $75 fine or be DQ'd.

$75 was a lot of money to me back then.   Expensive lesson.

On topic:  I'd rather see these guys toss clubs than act like they have absolutely no emotions.

But it's okay because we like Rory and he is the savior of the PGA so we'll let it slide.  It just means he is passionate right? 🤔

His right shoulder is too low and he didn't follow through.

Theegala dropped his putter on the green which could damage the green.  He should be fined.

Throwing clubs is definitely letting your emotions get the best of you.  I don't really see an issue with dropping them, as long as you are not doing it on the green.

No problem with the dropping - I mean, it does look a little douchey but lot's of things Pro's do. Throwing them, is a different matter. Once you get past a certain age, it is pretty pathetic.

Not sure what the big deal is if you don't damage any property or injure anyone or dwell on it for more than a minute or two.

Golf is pretty  unique with how it plays with your emotions. I've seen plenty of very calm and laid back people display short bursts of anger with themselves on the golf course. I don't see it as a problem unless they dwell on it and make others around them uncomfortable.

I've never felt like smashing my mountain bike, breaking my skis nor destroying a baseball bat or my mitt. But what is it about golf that can draw out short bursts of anger and wanting to take it out in the equipment?

There are numerous other far more egregious acts such as; playing slow, not fixing ball marks and blaming others for your bad golf shot.

I don't mind dropping the club like on a bad tee shot, but outbursts of anger that involve throwing the club and/or breaking it should be penalized probably by stroke penalties because I'm not sure fines would stop it.

Personally i love it seeing those guys do it. As long as they're not launching their clubs at babies in the crowd i say let the emotion fly.

I can understand not wanting people throwing clubs, but if you get mad at someone dropping it, you have a mssive dump in your pants.

I kind of agree but there's a fine line between dropping & throwing. Last summer I was playing with some friends & full-out shanked a 7-iron. I let go of the club as I completed my follow through, wasn't a conscious thing & didn't even realize I'd done it. But I hadn't completed the follow through so instead of just dropping behind me, it hit the roof of the cart one of my friends was in behind me. Thank God it didn't hit him, just startled him. I was so embarrassed, apologized profusely. He laughed about it but it bothered me the rest of the day that I could be such an idiot. In fact, it still bothers me so I make d**n sure to keep the club in my hands until I put it back in my bag now.

I wouldn't consider Knight or Bolt to be class acts by any means.  Bad behavior is not a new phenomenon, accepting it is.

I actually met Tommy Bolt when I was 8-9 years old.  I was standing behind a par 3 tee at the Desert Inn with my father waiting for him to hit.  Bolt proceeded to tell a nicely vulgar story about Sam Snead bouncing a ball off a fat woman's private parts.  I thought it was hilarious but my father was furious.  In retrospect, my father was correct.

I would prefer the snap over the knee and hand the damage to the caddie approach. Chucking your broken bits into the bush and leaving it makes you look a little too pretentious.

No but watching grown men act like children isn't very entertaining.

Respectfully disagree.

I love a little club tossing,  good for the soul on TV.

Really enjoy locals at the course, when they lose it, with a complete melt down.

I remember this. Was he hacked off about the previous shot that put him over near the bushes? Because I thought that was a nice recovery, looked like it ended up about 15 feet or so?

Thomas always runs a bit hot so probably had been building up.

Heh, well I thought it was perfect myself. Teach those other clubs a lesson if they are thinking about betraying you. 🤣

Not only will you get broken, but you will be abandoned in an undisclosed wooded location.....Sounds a little serial killer-ish. 🤣

I used to have a temper on the course as a kid of around 12-13. I'd swear, slam and throw clubs, even helicoptered a club at a friend of mine after he talked in my backswing and gave him a pretty sizable bruise on his back (not proud of that one).

My dad pulled me aside after watching me bury my 9 iron in the ground after hitting it in the water on the last hole of a local tournament and asked me if I thought I was good enough to hit every shot perfect. My answer of course was no, because I wasn't. After that I learned to do a way better job controlling my emotions...hitting a bad shot is pretty funny to me now, actually.

On the other hand, tour players are good enough to expect to hit (almost) every shot reasonably close to perfect. And it's their livelihood. So I totally understand when they get frustrated, so long as they don't ruin the course or hurt anyone.
