Sara Walsh’s golf rant - unfortunate truths

Recommended Posts

I searched but didn’t see this posted before.

TLDR: Don’t lie & say that a round of golf will “only take 3.5 hours”, then come home 7 hours later.

The unfortunate truth is 18 holes DOES take too long & I guess the only options for those who have angry people waiting at home are:

1. Play 9

2. Play late twilight & get in as many holes in 3 hours as possible

3. Skip the warm up

4. Skip the post-round meal/drinks

5. Play the closest course to your home

6, Play less often

7. Make sure your significant other has as much fun doing her own thing while you’re playing

This is why I always elect to play a very early tee time so I can be home with a full day for the family.

Side comment - I was first off yesterday in a foursome.

We got into a jam at 10 since the course is greedy and sends too many groups off the back for 9 in the morning. had a 1.5hr front and a 2.5hour back. I tried not to let it bother me but it had me grumbling a few times for sure.

What a clown. On most of those shows, the on-air “talent” is not very smart. Sit around for hour after hour because they wanted to be on TV. She probably came up with this because she was bored. And they’ll fire her sooner or later and have new hosts for less money and no one will care about her. ESPN just did it and dumped much bigger names than her.

I know men who spend all day and night on Saturday and Sunday watching football, from 11 am til deep in the night. They engage in no physical exercise whatsoever.

And then there are the kids playing video games 5 hours a day. Take a look at the studies of the impact on their well being. Not good.

At least golfers are spending four hours doing something.

"Ma'am, this is a Wendy's."

Ms. Walsh's relationship issues have absolutely nothing to do with golf or anybody else. She needs to get her own affairs in order instead of foisting her "solutions" on everybody else.

I have been with my wife for nearly 40 years and played golf from day one.  I have only been 'coached' 1 time during that whole time.  Playing the weekend mornings ... lunch and a few beers ... then home to fall asleep on the coach.  She didn't appreciate the falling asleep on the coach.  She was like I don't care if you play 36 but when you get home, be ready to be part of the family.  Couldn't argue with her on that and fixed my ways.

Falling asleep on the coach? No wonder she was miffed.

This is just content for the sake of content......it's a stupid rant. But i mean 90% of the hot take stuff is stupid. It got people to watch it , which is it's only job

There's a lot of sports out there that take longer or are more expensive. My wife competed in horseback riding for many years. You don't see many rants about that but it makes golf look cheap and short by comparison.

Who cares if you have a golf simulator in your home? People put up basketball nets in their yard and they aren't Damian Lillard and never will be

I don't even really understand what the argument is, she just doesn't like golf from the sounds of it

I have a hard time believing this is really an issue for the vast majority of men. Society is in trouble if men have become this weak. For those that have to ask permission to play, Callaway should come out with an oven or a microwave with a clock that has a golf mode setting where the clock moves twice as slow. Then the 7 hour round is only 3.5 hours as advertised to the wife, girlfriend, or both.

Looks nice on paper - but seriously...any of y'all really want to be married to that? I'd put my wife up against her any day of the week.

And as far as the "I spend too much time on the golf course rant" is concerned...if we are going to get all nit-picky...

I'd like a receipt for the total amount of minutes I've wasted waiting for my wife to "get ready" for every excursion and a pound by pound accounting of all the utterly unnecessary crap I've had to account for and carry on every trip we've ever taken together.

I think I'd still end up on the shorter end of the stick.

8. Join a private club. Saturday morning round was 2:50 and we were taking our time.

Agreed! My course even lets me get out early on the 9 that isn’t being cut, then I can play 9 starting off the first tee with the other the guys and I’m home by 8:30am for the 2 and 4 year old.

This!  Anyone who thinks golf is expensive and time consuming.....well, it is, but there is always another level, and those other levels can be found with horses, fishing offshore, hunting, or motorsports.

You nailed it. This is simply NFL Network trying to drive clicks in the middle of the offseason. People can only talk about voluntary OTAs for so long.

Never heard of her, but what a nasty, bitter, demeaning woman. Don't think she actually has a problem with golf, but she has serious problems with her marriage.

Would invite her to do the following. Take just the last couple of years, and:

1. Add up the amount of money you spent on clothes, shoes, jewelry, and make-up, and hair, and nails, and etc. Add up all the hours you spent shopping, doing your make-up, at the hairdresser, getting mani-pedis. (And consider whether you'd have taken a call from your husband during your last 2+ hour perm.)

2. Then add up the amount your husband spent on all golf equipment, rounds, and etc. Add up the hours he spent playing (even including the warm-up and post round dinners).

Then, subtract #2 from #1 and think about those numbers.

Funny thing, I suspect she thinks she is being enlightening, that it will cause men to think "good points, wow you've really opened my eyes to another perspective". What most are probably thinking is "oh good grief, thank goodness I don't have to deal with that". (That whole clip can kinda be summed up in a single sentence ... "Pay attention to meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!")

I've had a good marriage, and a couple of long term relationships. This childish level of dialogue has never taken place. The women I've been fortunate to be with are all accomplished, independent adults. We enjoyed doing all those things we shared in common together, but also had significant interests we pursued independently of each other.

Amazing how few problems arise, (and how a rant like this would never happen), in relationships built on mutual respect - and not juvenile co-dependency.

i’m going to get flamed 🤷🏼‍♂️

Her argument comes from the fact that her man is probably scared of her and they don’t have a healthy relationship in which she most likely can not fathom a reason why he needs “guy” time or time away from her that isn’t work.

Speaking from experience, most women I know don’t have a hobby and never played a sport so they can’t comprehend what makes golf addictive.

Men and women are just wired differently…she sounds like she’s just jealous that he enjoys something without her being involved and it doesn’t help that he’s scared to tell her the appropriate amount of time it takes or my personal line..”whenever I get home, that’s how long”
