As the title suggest the missus thinks my golf wardrobe is outdated. I admit i've had these polos a long time, but the decent quality is hard to let go. I am 49 by the way. Thoughts?

Yep, she is correct. Your current golf attire looks exactly like mine did two years ago. Time to upgrade my friend. For whats its worth, we are close to the same age as well - I'm 50. I went the moisture wicking material route for all my new polos and much happier. The 100% cotton was to darn hot.

Your wife seems very wise, and also seems to have your best interests at heart. Hang on to her, but lose the shirts.

I would post a picture of my golf shirts, but can't find a way to get them all in the frame. Let's just say that if it wasn't for golf shirts and shoes, and golf clubs, I could comfortably live in a Tiny House.

Don't wear shorts. Standard fare with the pants, UA match play, Stromberg and Adidas. Midlayers are mostly Footjoy, Mizuno and Galvin Green.

Yeah she is right. Those all need to go to Goodwill. Kudos to you for bringing that question here. My current shirts are mostly from GFore, Travis Mathews and Adidas--and I'm a geezer.

When I went golfing in Florida last year I notice quite a few wide load gentleman wearing stripey horizontal polos. That’s a big no no gents, made them look even wider.

Could it be she means the Golf Polo in itself is outdated? Or am I over-reading this?

The white striped Callaway, the stripey RL with the oversized horse, and the last one with the pocket are awful. Donation time.

All the others are keepers. Pretty bland as they are all solids, but good to keep in the mix. Solids never go out of style. Especially RL and LaCoste.

The last with the red pocket isn't good looking.

It's fun to add a few new shirts each year and get rid of a couple that are showing age or not fitting well.

If you play a lot, it would also give you more variety if you had more shirts, if that that is you golf collection.

Try some wicking shirts for hot weather and wear some of your plain cotton shirts in cool weather.

Cotton polos are for the birds in my opinion. They fade and even after you iron them they only look good until you sit down one time. I haven't worn a cotton Polo since I was in my mid 20's and I just turned 40!! I would possibly wear a cotton polo off the course...maybe. But yeah you should probably get online and pick up a few upgrades !!

I tend to buy new polos every season, especially if my wife and I do a golf trip since I like to buy polos with course logos. That said, I sorda understand what the OP is going through. I have a hard time letting go of older golf shirts too.

I have two stages to my polo "retirement" process. Stage 1 is it gets removed from the hangers in the closet, and moved into the back corner of a dresser drawer. That's where it sits until stage 2, which is when the wife says "Goodwill is going to be doing a pickup of donations, get some of your stuff ready". If the shirt sat through the entirety of stage 1 without even as much as a glance from me, that's when I know it's time to go to a new home.

That said, I still have a Ralph Lauren RX polo that I bought at Pebble Beach in 2013. It's made of the good moisture-wicking material, but it's looking a little out-dated. I am having a very hard time letting go of it, mostly because of the logo on it. Fortunately my wife and I are planning on going back to Pebble later this year, so my intent is to replace it with a newer model.

Guilt-free shopping. Have at it. Better yet, let her pick out the shirts.

You never be one of those guys where you can tell just by the clothes they wear, what year they retired from working. Used to see it all the time in the 80's and 90's from the seniors. They stopped buying new clothes the day they retired.

Ralph Lauren Polo = young man's brand. Brooks Brothers polo = old man's brand. Better yet = no logo.

LOL, I bought a new in the package pique polo vintage 80s Masters Slazenger a couple years ago - it’s my favorite and looks darn nice.

The so called new polos I wear (Criquet) are pretty plain, just lighter fabric.

Wear what you like, the basics are still the basics.

Nike, FJ, Adidas, and UA all have nice, sythentic blend, moisture wicking shirts with a modern modern look. I became a lot more partial today to FJ due to the XL being a perfect size as well as a great choice in colors and decent designs. If you’re a little chubby, do yourself a favor and stay away from anything with horizontal stripes.

What a wife! Time to donate and get some new ones. Anyway my girlfriend says the same thing about all my golf shirts which are already more stylish lol. Can't help it. It's golf.

Those shirts are all fine except for that last one. It needs to be burned and any photos of you with it on should be deleted.
