What to you, is the most Frustrating Aspect of Putting?

Hi guys,

 

The title says it all. For me, it is the constant thought of should I stick with my current putter or should I move onto another one? Another one is constantly thinking if I have the correct grip, headweight and length. Getting fitted helps with these things but I do not find it to be an exact science.

I can essentially leave every other club in the bag as it is and not overthink it but my mind is constantly in overdrive about putting.

Green reading, without a doubt. So frustrating to hit a putt exactly how you want and miss.

Knowing that you can hit a putt perfectly and miss and yet hit a putt poorly and make it. Irrational at best.

Definitely this. Sometimes it feels like the hole is 8" and you can pour them in from everywhere, other times it feels like the hole is the size of a thimble. My routine stays exactly the same, and yet some days they fall and other days they don't.

 

Also, lipouts. I don't know why but I get irationally angry when I lip one out

When I tell myself I'm a good putter I tend to make more putts but the fact that i'm not makes that a hard mindset to get it... .all comes down to feel and matching speed with line right?!?! I have been told by every golf professional and tour professional I know "how do you miss putts with that stroke" If I only knew....

Or how the speed of the greens change throughout the season. I imagine most people that live in northern areas have experienced this:

March/April- course opens and greens are like shag carpets while they try to get the grass healthy again;

June- they aerate and plug them;

July/August- it gets hot and windy, so they water them like crazy to keep them alive;

Sept/Oct- they stop watering as much, the greens dry out and firm up, and they finally feel like good greens;

Oct/Nov- it starts snowing so they cover the greens back up.

^^^This. I have a difficult time with complex greens and I still don't know how to approach the read.

When the real greens stimp much differently than the practice green. Usually, you expect the practice green to maybe be a hair faster, but I've had times where the course greens were like rolling on a shag carpet compared to the practice area. I'm just not skilled enough to adjust quickly to the pace difference and generally it's a bad putting day for me when that happens.

Hitting the perfect putt through a mine field of un-repaired ball marks. Really though it’s frustrating to read the put correct but pull or push (my case pull) it wide by a half inch

That you need to have the correct read, direction and pace on a putt to accomplish what you're trying to do, and can get just one of those factors wrong and miss a putt, yet get a couple factors wrong and seemingly make putts just as often.

That what works for long putts doesn't necessarily work for short putts and vice-versa. So, putt all putts the same? Have a cut off where you change theories? What's a long putt and what's a short putt? LOL. But really, poor greens is the most frustrating thing. I simply don't golf during aerification season anymore...
