Does any fan really care who wins the Fedex Cup?

Only if it's Tiger, DJ, or Rory.

So you haven't cared in a while, and will never care again?

It was better pre wrap around season and FedEx. Top 30 to the Tour Championship, player of the year was based more on the whole year. The off season golf was great with the skins games etc. There was a bit more variety.

Either an actual match play bracket, or 32 on Thursday, 16 on Friday, 8 on Saturday, 4 on Sunday cuts would be interesting. Maybe use seed as a tie breaker to make the regular season matter more. Then it would be a little closer to an actual playoff without necessarily being match play either.

Jay Monahan has said one reason for the changes to the Fedex Cup is to keep fans engaged etc...

Does anyone care who wins this, except for the players and their inner circle? Or perhaps fantasy players?

No. In fact, I think it is a huge distraction all year long. It provides NOTHING for fans and takes up a huge amount of TV time.

I think many people care if their favorite player wins the FedEx Cup. Wouldn't Tiger fans care if it were Tiger? Sure they would.

Now if your favorite player has no chance of winning the cup, you're likely to care less, so you are focused on enjoying a great competition. But people still choose sides; if it comes down to a battle between Justin Rose and Justin Thomas, I think many observers would care which one of those two win the cup.

Realizing Jack can't win the Cup brings so much of my ambivalence into focus!

Right now, yes. With Bryson struggling. Tiger is projected number 1 in the FedEx Cup

Tiger must win the tournament to win the Fedex Cup.

If Tiger wins the tournament.

ALL of these would also have to happen for Tiger to win the "Cup"

Bryson would have to finish 15th or worse.

Rose would have to finish 6th or worse.

Finau would have to finish 4th or worse.

Dustin would have to finish 3rd or worse.

Justin would have to finish 3rd or worse.

Keegan would have to finish 3rd or worse.

Not at all. I don't care if Tiger wins. Or if anybody wins.

I think the idea of a dwindling field over the course of several tournaments (i.e. the Fedex Cup) is compelling. It should serve to identify a really strong field for that final tournament, and provide some good golf as a result.

That being said, I think the tour's marketing/packaging of the Fedex Cup has been largely horrible. If they could market it like they do the Masters or U.S. Open, then I think they could win people over.

Instead, they try to portray it as four weeks of the Waste Management Open. The PGA Tour isn't NASCAR or the NFL. The whole "it's the PLAYOFFS!" schtick is weak.

I don’t think they do, they care about if their favorite wins the tournament itself, but I just don’t think many fans really care about the FedEx Cup itself. It’s not like winning a major or a WGC, it’s just another really rich dude getting even richer.

This sums up my thoughts perfectly. I would like to see a player I like win the tournament, but if they also happen to win the FedEx Cup, I don't really care. Even less so if they aren't the one who happened to win. If the tournament was to finish right now, for example, I would be happier to see Rickie or Tiger win than caring that Rose won the FEC.
