What up with Jordan?

In some sense, the hole is a trap for those with the most talent.  They know they can hit the shot to get one close, but the chaos of how the wind funnels through that part of the course makes even the most well executed stock shot highly unpredictable.  A flighted shot minimizes the wind impact and generally takes double or worse off the table. It takes discipline for a pro to play for par/bogey.  Sometimes hard to do in the excitement of the moment.

I have always contended that the swirling wind down below should be discounted.  The wind up above rarely swirls, is stronger, and should be the wind that goes into club and swing execution.  A sailor (or windsurfer) would know this.

Jordan has a couple things going on.

1) His full swing results, despite the odd pre-swing, have improved significantly.  He is hitting it good enough tee to green to win.

2) His putting, especially short putts, is the worst it has ever been. Hopefully only due to neglect rather than serious issues.

His issue with #12 on Friday was purely a course management mistake.  With the gusty wind, you play 12 to make no worse than 4.  Take extra bat, flight it down, and put it in the back bunker.  Get a gust, you are on the green.  Get a big gust, maybe front bunker at worst.  He tried to hit a normal shot and it ballooned to the moon.  Missed cut.  Pure CM mistake a Texas boy should never make.

This times a million

Absolutely if playing stock apex.  If flighting down, the effect of the wind is minimized so distance control/conservatism gets easier all the way around.

Couple more and they’d have one hell of a softball team. Some big hitters in that bunch.

The best shot that Jordan hit this afternoon was from behind a tree, and he did it on instinct.  No rehearsal.

That stupid over the top move tells me he has no faith in his instincts.  As a spectator, it's really hard to watch.  Pathetic.

AS  a teacher, I would tell him to turn a little faster to his left without releasing the club.  With his own, honest swing.

Sorry but that is a laughable take. JS hit a ton of very good shots today. The rehearsal is ugly, but he  was very good with his irons today. His biggest problem was distance control on his wedges into the wind. He and Greller were talking about it quite a bit. Mostly he was long on wedges into the wind, even when those shot got up above the trees into the wind. JS' short game was way better than JT and Lowery.

At this point, Jordan has, for all practical purposes, joined the long list of players who have lost their game (for whatever reason) and can't seem to find it for more than a round or two.  When he was younger and just exploding onto the scene, my instructor said he's got a flaw in his swing and sooner or later it would become a problem.  At the time it wasn't noteworthy since he was winning.  Now he's got a swing issue and the putts no longer go in.  It's only a matter of time before he appears as a panelist on The Golf Channel.

that might be a wee bit harsh.  🤣

But the worrisome to me was just a few minutes ago he had a short little greenside pitch and was doing the same rehearsal.  Gave me flashbacks to the Tiger chipping issues when he tried to change his move to match what he was working on for long game.  Gives me shivers just thinking  about it.🥶

I knew his putting was bad, but apparently he is 180th in strokes gained putting.  That is a really bad stat to have.  Missing from 18" was an I.K. Kim moment.

Of course. I don’t watch and something happens.  Who knows if the recording captured it all. Oh bother.  Lol. Maybe I got lucky
