16 yard gain with the new PXG 0211 ... see testing numbers

Taken from the "PXG Fan Forum" Group on Facebook, a local pro posted some testing numbers of the new 0211.

According to the post ..

0211 Numbers:

117 Ball Speed, 16.6 Launch Angle, 3579 Backspin, 3.7 Side Angle, 184 Carry, 205 Total Yards

0311 Gen3 Numbers:

113 Ball Speed, 18.6 Launch Angle, 5729 Backspin, 5.4 Side Angle, 168 Carry, 182 Total Yards

The numbers are based on a 7 iron.  Dude is a 0 handicap.  He is showing tighter dispersion and 16 yard gains.

And those clubs are probably unplayable on a course for him. 3* stronger so not a true comparison and that amount of spin is going to have a hard time holding greens and even staying in the air at times. I saw the post, he mentioned he liked his gen 3 better. The new 0211 are going to target the higher handicap golfers that love hitting it far. I don’t think they are going after any super good players with those kind of numbers

I have the original 0211 and am super disappointed with the new 0211 and all the numbers being posted

Which Gen 3 iron?

The only comparison would be with the same loft and length and that is the 0311XP.

The other Gen 3 irons are apples vs oranges.

Good lord.   A 7 iron at those spin rates and that low of a descent angle?   LOL       I hope he plays greens made of velcro.   Otherwise, his ball is gonna roll 30 yards off the green at any normal course.   That is pure garbage.   No decent player would want that much variability with a 7 iron.    You have 14 clubs in your bag for a reason.    Go for all the distance you can get with a driver.   Irons are for control.

I love PXG irons.  I've had 3 sets.    But if I got those numbers when testing, I'd quickly tell the fitter to "let's move on to something else."

That said, these aren't for a 0 capper, these irons for for the  guy that swings his driver 85mph and wants to say he hits a 7 iron 145 again.

I can't be the only one that thought those were driver numbers from a higher handicap player before reading they are 7i numbers from a 0.

That was exactly my reaction when I read it at first as well!!

What is the loft difference between the two clubs used in the test?

And with spin numbers that low for a 7 iron, this is further evidence that OEM's are more interested in selling units with distance hype than helping people play better golf. The new 0211's are going to ruin a lot people's golf games.

lol strong lofts hitting it to 185, shallow descent, 3500 spin....on a 7 iron? hard pass.

I'll gladly keep my 160yd 7 iron that lands and spins properly.

Everybody not liking these numbers but they got me excited.  I launch irons way too high and i spin them too much.  I recently have found stronger lofted low spin irons seem to help me score better.  These irons certainly wont work for the guy above with that decent angle he wont hold greens.  I expect my decent angle to be much higher for my swing.  I went from "meh" to now im contemplating ordering right now without even hitting them first.  At 115 an iron + 39 for shaft upgrade on all of them its at the right price to at least get put in the backup bag.

With a little more R&D and the right shaft they can get that 7 iron spin down to 2800. Seriously, 3600 spin is 3 wood range. Lock this up before it gets out of control!

Assuming those numbers were gotten gotten of a mat and not knowing what ball was used, those will probably spin in the 5k range like every other hollow body player’s distance iron does in real world conditions.

Here's my take on this nonsense. People have to be content with the fact they hit much shorter than pros or youtubers. You want spin on your 7 iron so you can have a consistent and controlled flight and the ball lands soft on greens. You get 14 clubs, you should be able to find a club or each gap and not worry about maxing out a 7 iron or pw.

I agree but when im testing irons decent angle is more important to me than spin.  As a high ball hitter i dont need irons that spin a ton, i focus more on decent angle and have not yet run into any issues holding firm or fast greens.  Having said that I can say there is no way with my swing that my spin numbers / decent angle would be that low as this chart.  Me hitting these irons i would guess would spin at least 5000.  This chart above is a bad example as these irons are clearly not suited to the player that got those numbers.
