inexpensive wedges?

Asking for my son (24).

Was looking for a year or so old models from 'reputable' brands like Cleveland or Titleist.   Hit or miss in terms of what lofts/bounce are available.

Want new.

What brands are in the $80-$120 range, per wedge?

Looked at some Maltbys and Sub70 - no experience with those clubs though.

Callaway Pre-Owned, they have "Like New" Jaws wedges for under $100. I bought an MD4 and PM19 wedge from them, I think in the "Very Good" category and I don't think the PM19 was ever hit honestly.

Once COVID breaks, the best way to find these is at Thanksgiving PGA sectional sales and at Spring Golf Expos.

Depending on the year, you may find a good number of top-brand wedges from the previous cycle up for sale, for about $100 a club.

At our 2020 February expo, those arriving opening day could have done well with Vokey SM6 offerings: 52-56-60 or 50-54-58 with different bounces to choose from. Cleveland had quite a few CBX variants for sale also.

Callaway and TM offerings were pretty lean, however, mostly lob wedges.

Note: Abundance of a model will vary by year, and geographic area.

No experience with them, but Costco sells a 3 wedge set for I believe ~$150.

If you son plays a lot of square-face wedge shots, this 52-56-60 set could get it done for him.

I have nothing but good things to say about the Sub70 wedges... Definitely in your price range, and can be ordered custom. Maltby has a solid reputation and would be a fine way to go.

If you don't need or want a different length and are fine with "wedge flex" shafts, there are a ton of options in your price range... You can easily pick up last season (or 2 season old) wedges that haven't been touched.

Hurricane Golf has some options, and I haven't seen them mentioned.

Some other options would be Cobra wedges or Tommy Armour Wedges...

You have basically 4 options:

1. Want a custom build for different lengths or lies or have a specific shaft need? Go DTC. Sub70 is great! Plenty of other options.

2. Want an old OEM wedge? Check a discount site... they will have previous year and older models in your price range.

3. Want a cheaper new wedge? Shop older, less popular clubs... Cobra and Tommy Armour come to mind

4. Want cheap wedges? Join Costco. Buy their wedges. Grab some quality beef.

I highly recommend the Maltby MG Tour Grind. Great forged wedge that has awesome feel, a ton of spin, and a very versatile grind. I also have older Callaway x forged and Vokey SM5 wedges. I prefer the Maltby but they are all very good. IMO the Maltby spins and feels a hair better than the vokey but you cant go wrong with either. My only gripe is that the leading edge is a tiny bit sharp so If you get steep on a full swing it will dig but that is the error of the player and not the club.

These are a great option. TGW sells them for $25/wedge frequently.

This. Just got a very good PM19 56 in today that was essentially new. May have been hit once or twice. $90 to my door.

I really don’t think you can beat these for the money. Might have to buy from seperate sites but for $99 or less you can’t go wrong with the RTX4

The Maltby TSW wedge looks like the real deal. I play one each of Tour Grind MG and the retired M-Series+ Tour and love them both. The TSW blends them together. Wish it came in black. Not everyone wants a blade gap wedge though so be sure to check out sets that offer an individual GW if he would prefer a cavity back club there. I’m a good player but found that I prefer an iron-like club in that position to match the rest of my set.
