Now who's the top choice at the Masters

I don't like Morikawa's chances to win around Augusta. He's a pronounced fader of the ball...which can work around that place IF you're long....which he isn't. Plus, experience usually rules the day there....which he also doesn't have.

Much easier to pick who will not win even if their odds are good.

YJS - no back to back

Rahm - headcase and now a Father

Rory - is going to take a long time to fix that wedge game

Morikawa - does not have an Augusta caliber short game

Xander - quite the disappearing act he has going on for 2021

BDC - too many reasons to list

Is headcase and fatherhood really a reason to pick against Rahm. Maybe it makes him unpredictable. But that could go either way and he could tear it up this week on a high just as much as he might not have it together.

Lets see, what the experts think:

DJ 9.00

Bryson 10.00

YJS 11.00

Rahm 12.00

JT 12.00

Rory 17.00

Cantlay 21.00

Xander 23.00

Finau 26.00

Brooks 26.00

Morikawa 29.00

Of those odds, i know i'm not picking Rory. I'd put JT as a favorite right now.

Interesting picks:

Reed 34.00

Westwood 41.00

Garcia 46.00

Fleetwood 51.00

Poulter 126.00

.

.

.

Sandy Lyle 2001.00

Larry Mize 2001.00

Olazabal 2001.00

Well it’s not the “experts” it’s a computer program that sets the odds based on where the bettors are putting their money. And if those bettors, as a group, were so smart Rory wouldn’t be at 17.

Somewhat sure, but before anyone can bet, there are always those first odds and those cant be set by bettors. And what i remember, those odds hasn't changed that much.

Lowest career scoring average at the Masters minimum 25 rounds - Jordan Spieth

Finishes at the Masters

T2 WIN T2 T11 3 T21 T46

Since February 2021 - T3 T4 T15 T4 T48 T9 WIN

Only week he didn't contend he still made the cut and finished under par at Sawgrass.

Jordan is the favorite. He's easily been the most consistent player in the world the last 2 months and his record at Augusta is pretty unparalled at this point in his career. Compare his first 7 Masters to legends who won numerous green jackets

Nicklaus - MC T13 T7 T15 WIN T2 WIN

Woods - T41 MC WIN T8 T18 5 WIN

Palmer - T10 21 T7 WIN 3 WIN 2

Mickelson - T46 T34 T7 3 MC T12 T6

Faldo - 40 T20 T15 T25 T30 WIN WIN

Snead - 18 T31 2 T7 T6 T7 T7

Player - T24 MC T8 T6 WIN 2 T5

Demaret - T33 WIN T12 6 T4 WIN T18

Hogan - T25 9 T10 4 2 2 T4

T Watson - MC T8 T33 WIN T2 T2 T12

Ballesteros - T33 T18 T12 WIN MC T3 WIN

Nelson - T9 T13 WIN 5 7 3 2

That's every player to win multiple Masters as well as another major championship. None of them had 4 top 3 finishes in their first 7 starts.

Jordan might not win but I would be shocked if he doesn't have a great chance on Sunday and he will eventually win another if not multiple green jackets.

You can make a fair argument DJ should be the favorite as defending champion who won a European tour event in early February but I've seen a lot more from Jordan since so I would give him the edge.

The time is now

for Finau.

Just hoping. Cantlay, JT, DJ all strong contenders of course. Would like to see Westwood contend and actually win. Fan of Casey too. I like some of the young guns, too: Wolff, Morikawa, Champ, Hovland, but as noted above Augusta may not be their venue yet.

And then there’s BD....

I want to go Finau but he always seems to be right there at the end but not close it out.  Regular events included.

I think we will see an odd-bird winner this year.  A Kevin Na or Brendon Todd type.  Not really a winner you would say, "he is due" or "I saw that coming."

I like JT this week. He is playing well, and his buddy JS will be in contention I think.

rory, Brooks, Rahm all seem to have distractions.

I feel him and Casey are cut from the same mold.  Great ball strikers who just never believe they will get it done on Sunday.

If you look at previous Masters, guys who play well the year before tend to do well again:

DJ

Cameron Smith

S. J. Im

Justin Thomas

Dylan Frittelli

Rory McIlroy

C. T. Pan

J. Rahm

Bruce Koepka round out the top 9.

Patrick Reed, Webb Simpson and Corey Conners came next.

How much weight do you put on last year's results though? Course plays differently in Nov, plus no "patrons" around.

Nope. Putter is held together with tape and bubble gum.  Those greens require ultimate feel. The claw is the opposite of that.  Ask Dimarco.  He did well. But he was never going to make enough putts.

I don’t get that logic....if Tiger's famous chip on 16 comes up half  an inch shorter then DeMarco was a “good enough” putter? How exactly does that logic work? He beat everyone else and only a once in a generation player beat him.

I just sent in my four picks for my pool:

Cantlay

JT

P Reed

Cam Smith

My dark horse is Scottie Scheffler

I don't see Spieth winning again this week. He seemed to be fading his driver a lot last week which won't help him this week. Rahm would be a good choice if he didn't just have a kid last week.

My heart also says Westwood, but I don't see him closing it out. This year he failed both at the Players and the week before, why would Augusta be any different?

A guy named Mark O'Meara did pretty well with a claw, saw or some such modified grip.

Lol. He’s ditched the claw gone t a conventional grip and is putting with his eyes closed.  At least he’s trying.  😂

it’s just a feeling.  That’s why he’s my 4th pick.
