PGA Tour implementing lucrative new bonus structure to reward the "needle movers"

Another way for the PGA to pay more millions to millionaires.  They should donate that money to charities not to millionaires.

The PGA Tour raised over $200 million for charity in 2019 alone.  That doesn't account for anything donated by any players or other entities associated with the Tour, which also account in the tens of millions every year.  Might want to sit down regarding the Tour and its charitable donations.

The Tour itself is basically built by the players for the players.  Many of the rules/regulations are set up by the players themselves through their own committees.  If the Tour wants to set up a 'slush fund' for its players, so what?  If it creates more involvement from players to fans and sponsors on social media or other types of media, it helps everyone....that $40 million paid out to players could mean double of triple in terms of economic impact for the Tour and its sponsors and stops across the world....especially if some of it trickles down the KF Tour, the Latin America Tour, or any of the other worldwide tours the PGA Tour runs.

I guarantee you some dumbass MBAs from the M7s/MBB firms came up with this genius idea.

Metrics 2-6 are a recipe for disaster.  They're encouraging and rewarding the spread of DeChambeau-ism, which is the last thing golf needs.

Just work hard, play the game, and be a superstar because you're the best at it, FFS.

Lol. Yep.  This is trophy’s for followers.  Which in my opinion encourages fake behavior.  Because let’s be honest.  To have a huge following , you have to be mostly fake.  Or a train wreck.

Yep, just look at social media in general.  "Instagram models" aren't the best looking, most educated, most virtuous women, etc.  Their "value" lies in the willingness to put themselves on display and in very little else.  Yet there they are, with their thousands/millions of followers...  Someone could discover/invent the cure for cancer and society would hold them in less regard than the fake lips, fake eye lashes, butt/breast implants having "influencers" who, ironically, all look nearly indistinguishable.

Eventually golf will no longer be about who is the best golfer, but rather about who has the biggest brand.  I'll still play, but I definitely won't be watching the PGA Tour.

The 10 beneficiaries will be determined based on their “Impact Score,” a number generated from six separate metrics that are designed to quantify that individual’s added value. According to a document the PGA Tour distributed to players, the contents of which were shared with Golfweek, the metrics on which players will be ranked against their peers include:

(1) Their position on the season-ending FedEx Cup points list.

(2) Their popularity in Google Search.

(3) Their Nielsen Brand Exposure rating, which places a value on the exposure a player delivers to sponsors though the minutes they are featured on broadcasts.

(4) Their Q Rating, which measures the familiarity and appeal of a player’s brand.

(5) Their MVP Index rating, which calibrates the value of the engagement a player drives across social and digital channels.

(6) Their Meltwater Mentions, or the frequency with which a player generates coverage across a range of media platforms.

whatever ... this reeks of something ... i guess desperation, though i don't know what of/for ... so fowler gets a $5 million bonus without having to win a tournament?

If it was about 3 weeks ago I'd be positive this is an April Fools joke.

I'm still not convinced it isn't.  This can't be real.  Can it?!?

Yeah, but it doesn’t matter if you win any of them.

This is really stupid.

"Their popularity in Google Search."

Google manipulates their searches based on agendas and this is well known. You think some vengeful person at Google wouldn't want to stick it to JT know it could impact him financially now? That's how they operate now.

Bull-- sure they modify searches to favor big over small business and will not autofill controversial topics or controversial words. For example type "Justin" and the 3rd or 4th search result is auto filled with Thomas.  Type "Justin Thomas" and you get the results below available for autofill. Type "Justin Thomas slur" and autofill stops at Thomas. Type "Justin Thomas g*y" or other controversial word and no autofill. Regardless of whether autofill helps you or not the results are the same.  So yeah BULL for what your getting at regarding "agenda"... but keep drinking the Kool-Aid.

Such a sexist post

You just assume women are the only ones who flaunt their butt implants for money and lack virtue. MtlJeff's IG page begs to differ.

I think they're shooting themselves in the foot with this garbage.  More and more sports fans are losing interest and being completely turned off by where pro sports is going.  Many don't want to be bombarded with the politics, propaganda, and the "national enquirer" vibe.

My interest keeps moving back to amateur sports

Show me an amateur athlete worth watching*, and I'll show you someone getting exploited.

* obviously, not counting your kids

While maybe only technically 'amateur,' I always enjoy college football. And high school sports played at a high level.

And minor league baseball, while professional, is always more fun to me than MLB. The players aren't fat and happy (yet), and seem to actually care...

I'd also rather watch someone else's kids.  I'd prefer to watch a random little league game.

There's athlete's of all ages across the world, that are fun to watch.

If they allow themselves to get exploited, then that is their choice.  My choice is to not be involved with it

How’s that different than any modeling at any time? Not sure that’s something to pin on social media.
