Probably when they determine it might become a sideshow that would likely distract viewers from the golf and directly interfere with the players' performance. Easy enough to give the players the choice whether they want to be involved in that or not.

I just finished watching the press conferences of both.  What strikes me most is the difference in how much more intelligent DeChambeau sounds than Koepka during an interview.  Koepka sounds like the stereotypical “dumb jock” while DeChambeau speaks like he could be a Rhodes Scholar.  Don’t like either one.  Just my $ 0.02

no doubt BDC is much more articulate and well schooled in media relations....what I took from the press conference is the media is still trying to fuel a feud that isn't there, even up in the booth they just won't leave it alone....im not a BDC fanboy but he had it right when asked about Stricker's reaction. When they are teammates the egos will will bereft at the door

I think broadcasters and commentators try way, way too hard to make a big deal out of something, probably to try to add excitement, but maybe even because they're bored themselves. Even people who love golf struggle to talk about it 10 hours a day...it must be mind-numbingly boring for the people who do that week in and week out. 

 

Last week's tournament didn't offer much drama so we got all this stupid chatter about Chesson Hadley's celebratory finger snaps. Like, he's snapping his fingers. Did he or didn't he snap? Where's the snap? C'mon man, you gotta snap after you make that putt! 

 

It is incredibly uncool and stupid.

His pressers always come of as artificial and practiced to me. As a commenter mentioned above, he's schooled in PR stuff (he talks like a politician lol) and Dechambeau also loves the attention from the media, it helps build his BRAND, which is paramount to him. Koepka obviously despises the media, which to me says he has more brains than Bryson.

Both were asked if they were approached about a pairing and both said NO that it wasn’t discussed with them at any time.  
 

so no. Bryson didn’t decline. Or if he did Bruce is covering for him.  Why would he do that ?

NY Post and the NY Times both have articles about this "spat" today...didn't read them, just saw the headlines.

 

Do any golf fans, or sports fans, really care?  I bleed for my teams I've supported since I was a kid, and develop a healthy game-time animosity for their rivals...but a couple PGA golfers?  Both of whom were what I would call "polarizing" even before this fiasco...they weren't Phil/Freddie popular...both might have had fans, but also plenty (more?) detractors.

 

It belongs in the same category as the Logan/Mayweather fights...if you're a sports fan, you can't avoid the headlines, but that's about as far as it goes.

So I asked my litmus test: my wife. 

 

She has no clue who Koepka is and has only heard of DeChambeau because I mentioned he's in The Match, and it hasn't shown up on any of her media sites. 

 

So it's certainly not "everywhere".

Chamblee was not too kind to BK last night. He acts like he hates the guy. Sorry couldn’t find the clip, but Lerner asked Chamblee the question about BK and the beer. Chamblee said it definitely crossed the line.

I still can’t see the harm in it. If indeed it was the beer incident.
