I like the approach from the greens staff that "the competitors will play the course as nature sees fit" so no thinning down of the rough in the coming weeks.

Question for the UK guys.

I attend a monthly zoom with ~20 people from various parts of the world.  There is a guy who when signing in says, "It's David from UK."

Why does he not use the article, the when referring to his location?

Here is what I want to know … why do people from CA drop the “interstate” from major roads?  I keep hearing “take the 5 to the 405 …”

Everywhere else it is take I-5 to I-405 …”

Must want to know pretty badly if you posted it three times.

There's definitely something more important that I should be doing.

Again gorgeous.

Funny my dad is saying in 4 weeks time, when I get to play at a good golf links golf course again, he was saying I will really struggle as the rough is up; seems to be at all the links courses in Britain.

One thing about links golf; bunkers are key. I find I am hardly ever in bunkers in Texas but when at a real links course you find lots and they are really penal.

LA was one of the first areas to have freeways (called motorways) but they were paid for in part with local funds. So we had freeways with local names like The San Bernadino Freeway, The Harbor Freeway, etc. Once they were given official numbers (which is a whole other story) the people of So Cal never ditched the The.

Hmmm. I live in CA and will say. Take 680 south, then 580 west…” if those are the only roads identified by those numbers, why do you have to indicate ‘interstate’? Seems completely unnecessary to me 🤷🏼Didn’t realize that was a California thing. Haha

He made that story up.

Actually, it was Herman Barnsworth (of the Barnsworth family from the Kent coastline in England that marketed the first mass-produced toothbrush) who championed the idea of free highways after immigrating to Michigan. This was before California was even a US territory after the end of the Mexican-American War.

Mr. Barnsworth lived in one of the first three-story houses built in America. He chose this design because he believed stairs were important to human fitness. His great, great granddaughter invented the StairMaster.

Can't wait to see what spots Ken Brown will find himself in during his Ken On The Course segments.

Great pic. Looking forward to the British Open! Not ideal viewing it live here on the West Coast though. But hey, it’s only one of the four majors that is played at less than ideal times here. I’ll make an exception and lose a little sleep. 😂

Who?

They’re definitely talking.  Here’s a link to Rickie nicely saying how ridiculous it is to have them not stay in houses together ( players ) but yet ride planes together over snd have 32k fans on grounds daily.

hecsaid they’re asking what happens if a couple players test positive over there after riding a plane full of players over, do they DQ all the Americans ?  Or ?

With demand for tickets expected to spike, the R&A has created a ballot system for the hopeful dreamers wanting to attend the 150th Open. It was introduced just for this occasion and in the interest of fairness, according to the governing body.

“The ticket ballot gives as many fans as possible the chance to be part of this fantastic Championship and make it an occasion to remember,” said R&A Chief Executive Martin Slumbers.

No one is confused.

The British Open is "the major of two names."   And you know something, I'm good with that.

no, no it isn’t. That’s clearly an American website.

Us redcoats are not confused about it’s name.

the main job is avoiding fairway bunkers, usually they are steep riveted faces so its a one shot penalty every time.

RSG has very few in play off the tee compared to every other course on the rota, and its not narrow. Id say the greens are 'averagely' severe, ie you could tuck pins away to keep scores down if you wanted to.. but if the wind doesnt blow, I could see 14/15 under easily...
