TW is going to play and he's going to contend. He has a reasonable shot of winning the event. But let's get one thing straight. The story of the week is going to be WOW, TW is so amazing, who would have thought he could return against all odds after he was left for dead, nobody could have predicted this!!

Well it was entirely predictable, because as long as TW has a pulse he's going to be making the haterz eat crow. Haterz have been sitting on the couch for the last 400 days, what has TW been doing for the last 400 days? He's been getting ready for Thursday for the last 400 days. So when he plays, makes the cut, maybe even WINS, it won't be a miracle. It will be just another day in the life of TW, the guy who does NOTHING but win because he outplays, outsmarts, outworks everyone else in the field.

TW is a testament to the greatness of humanity and the strength of the human will. I hope you haterz have a miserable time watching TW inspire the world for the next week, maybe it will inspire you to stop hating, get off the couch, and stop eating Cheetos. That would be the true miracle.

Honest question, has Tiger EVER contended after long layoffs? We've pretty consistently seen that he needs to play himself into shape over a decent chunk of a season, which has taken longer as he's gotten older. IF Tiger makes the cut, and honestly that in and of itself would be a huge victory, I highly doubt he has the stamina to keep anything going on the weekend, especially since the temps are set to fall at the same time. It took Tiger most of a season to get back into Master's contention shape last time, and that was with an injury he'd been managing for years at that point. Now we've got something new that he hasn't had any competitive time to work with/around. To say he has a good chance of anything other than being in a lot of pain after a couple days is delusional, but i'd love to be wrong about that.

He will play and contend.  He did not show up at Augusta just for the dinner.  He is practicing on the course.  He is walking the course.  He got special shoes for more support.  He is in attack mode and imo he will do something special and have the whole world watching again.

‘09 was back into the swing of things very quickly post ACL recon. T9 at Doral, win at Bay Hill, T6 at Augusta. 13 years later and four or five different injuries is obviously a big difference though.

’10 was also T4 at Augusta first start back from life implosion imposed layoff

Yeah - Tiger's just a yawn. Stick with that. How many majors did Davis win? How many PGA tourneys? What were the size of his crowds? How many miraculous shots did he hit?

It isn't that he did it once, it is that he has done it over and over.

Oh the horrible music. Why do they do it?

Hey chopper, what are you hitting there?

Yeah I think the big difference there is between injuries that when repaired/healed allowed him to resume what he was doing prior vs. having to completely relearn how to do them with things like the back and now the foot. Changing the tires vs. rebuilding the drivetrain, that kind of thing. Good points though, I wish it were that simple for him now.

That’s all true but the question you asked was “has he ever”?  He has.  Can he do it again is a different question.  It’s the right course for him to play well but the wrong course to walk and have his body hold up.  Can’t wait to see!

I just hope any further setbacks from participating here won’t delay any sort of return later in the year.

I’m terrified of him hitting one from the pine straw or a severe downhill lie. I hope he didn’t come back too soon.

if it was his left leg I'd agree, but rear leg is much less of a issue.  Uphill lie is the one to watch since weight stays on the trail leg much more

You know it’s funny.  There has been a lot, make that A LOT,  of revisionist history in golf since Tiger came along.  By the late 80’s to early 90’s the conventional thinking was that there were just too many great players on tour for any player to dominate the way Jack did.  So we still ague about it today but even then it was an acknowledgment that the 50’s 60’s 70’s had some nice players but nowhere near the sheer volume of top notch players that were on tour by the 90’s. And today we acknowledge that there are even more today than there were then.
Like you I watched a lot of golf starting in the late 60’s.  And for the media of the time Jack got a big portion of the attention….and justifiably so.  Then Tiger came along and was the Pied Piper.  EVERYONE was amazed at the level of golf he played.  Everyone.  It seemed like a weekly occurrence where Feherty or McCord would giggle with glee over a shot Tiger would hit….and hit successfully.  No one else had ever showed his consistency.
No one, not even Seve, had shown an imagination on the course like Tiger to hit miracle shots…along with the ability to just grind the others to dust with a mind numbing greatness.  There was seemingly no part of the game that any player was better than he was.  Before the new equipment he even talked about becoming straighter than Fred Funk.

And today we have guys posting with annoyance over Tiger’s comeback coverage?

WOW.... that has got to be the most perfect position anybody has ever been in golf EVER.. I know Adam scott is similar, Rory, but Tiger has nailed it there look at those lines! omg

I thought everyone on wrx knew that chasing static positions is a waste of time, but Tiger still needs practice chasing these moves! 😉

He needed so much time to play himself into shape with his back because he couldn’t practice short game or putting for long periods of time as he rehabbed.

The whole game had to be rebuilt.

This time, he’s had an entire year of putting and pitching. Touch and feel, wearing a sweet spot into the sweet spot. How many 10 footers you think he rolled last fall and winter?

Went back to the pingman grip, first several long lags yesterday were as fluid as I’ve ever seen, not to mention the creativity on his pitches that followed. Low, high, skipping, spinning, even had a few nasty rehinge high spinners that he clipped perfectly.

He doesn’t have the speed to miss it a mile, and he has the best hands he’s ever had. I’m calling a first round 69 with 25 putts. Don’t count him out.

I think at this point Tiger’s biggest obstacle will be the temperature given his past history of his back being uncooperative at lower temperatures.

Me too.  His leg still looks fragile to me when he walks.

He does look like he is walking carefully.  I know this gait well from similar injuries.  I'll just say that a slightly over one-year recovery time is absolutely remarkable.  Tiger and I are the same age (though obviously not the same physical condition ha ha), and six months after my accident I was still using a walker.  Eight months after I was still massively dependent on a cane, and longer distances required a wheelchair.

Walking Augusta National is no joke, and I am thrilled that it looks like Tiger is going to attempt it.  Walking 72 holes will be a monumental accomplishment!

Something of an emotional response from me, as I watched Tiger's 2019 win on my iPad in the hospital following my own car accident.
