Because the Tour owns the media rights.

I doubt that. The issue with the media rights was for PGAT members, and obviously there are no PGAT members involved.

I'm with @Ole3wiggle that the PGAT and Capital One have probably formed some sort of partnership in production of The Match such that they both benefit. Maybe Capital One is leaning on the PGAT's experience in golf broadcasting, and/or borrowing experienced PGAT commentators who are under contract for this event. Maybe it's just a cross-promotion agreement because they know the PGAT is more likely to reach avid golf fans than their own outreach to publicize the event. Maybe it's something else.

Heck, even if it's NOT an agreement between them, perhaps the PGA Tour is amplifying the interest in The Match in the hopes that it can get football & basketball fans who are only watching because of the players involved more interested in the game of golf.

But since there are no players in the event, they don't own any media rights. Although as mentioned above, they may have certain commentators under exclusive contract and need to cooperate for Capital One to have access to those commentators.

I'll watch (starts in a couple minutes). But no 'cause I care too much about these yahoos playing golf. Easy to by cynical, but this one benefits No Kid Hungry. An amazing organization - I donate every year and have even volunteered a couple times. Certainly is the silliest of silly golf, but I really dig that the PGAT does this stuff.

Wow this is really bad. They're basically missing every single green, chip and putt.

Occasional decent drive.

Steph is pretty good.  He doesn't have a vanity cap.

Let's just hope the ratings for this were poor enough that Capital One realizes their mistake.

😂. Doesn’t make me wrong though.  Change for the sake of change isn’t progress. And progress in name only is hollow.

humans do this. They just look for things to change. My wife currently “ can we move this heavy piece of wood furniture down the hall and exchange it for this other heavy piece of oak that looks almost identical ( both glass front cabinets ).  Sure honey.  Whatever will make you happy for the day.  🙄.   Luckily I now have a giant 14 year old to help me. When he asks me quietly “ why are we doing this “. I just whisper “ shut up boy …. Remember crap rolls downhill.  And you’re at the bottom.  Just do what your mom wants and everybody’s life will be easier for a Minute “.    Said mostly in jest.  She is afforded the luxury of not dealing with the unintended consequences of her progressive furniture ideas. Because me , the problem solver facilitates the move without her dealing with the inevitable issues , or wear and tear on the back.

but on the for real.  If humans hadn’t analyzed baseball down to the pitch,  trying to squeeze every ounce of cheat code out of it , then the new pitch  clock would never ever have been needed. Then there is alll the sports psychology teaching pitchers to “ stay in your process. Visualize and attack “.   With that you get a guy with a 67 second pre pitch routine    ….

And we’d never have had 22 pitchers A game either.  It’s always unintended consequences that people who push progress don’t consider. Or somehow believe won’t be issues.  Just like Frank Thomas making the quote that no self respecting pro will ever play one of those huge drivers.  Which is exactly why they never regulated them then.  Here we are slippery slope and all.  sometimes great is just great.  And should be left alone.  Baseball was great pre 1990.  I watched (literally) years of it.  Then one day it died.

This reminds me of what a friend of mine who is a very successful real estate developer told me about the 3 things to remember to be a successful real estate developer:

1. Hot goes on the left

2. Cold goes on the right

3. S**t doesn't flow uphill
