PXG Commercials are really really really bad - am I right?

But after all those numbers, at the end of the day day all that matters is score. Is there any data that supports that handicap goes down when switching to PXG?

Is this data available for any manufacturer?

<edit> I'm an engineer, that would be a very tough metric to prove. You would have no way to control ALL the other factors that might impact someone's handicap.

Maybe having shinny new clubs makes you play more. Playing more might also lead to a lower score.

I think others have already pointed it out to you, but that’s just an irrelevant straw man argument.

Manufacturers can’t affect your handicap, that’s on you as the player.  The only thing an equipment manufacturer can do is try to give you the best possible ball launch conditions (for your game) off whatever club you’re thinking of buying.  They don’t control what YOU do with the clubs and ball.

so you aren’t asking a PXG question.  You’re really asking a speculative question of all manufacturers. And it’s a legit point for sure.

But Is there any data that supports changing equipment to any brand lowers your handicap just because you switched?   Not that I know of.   That’s why you don’t see that in the commercials from anyone.  Instead, they make puffery claims like “play your best golf” or “the best ball in golf”.  They don’t say “will lower your handicap by 5”.  Hell, some people playing golf don’t even carry a handicap because they don’t care, they just play for the fun of it.

So the question you’ve posted has nothing to do with PXG specifically, which is why it doesn’t apply when trying to criticize one particular brand.

I was eating lunch in the clubhouse before my round today, they had golf on the TV and the inevitable PXG commercial started up. I had a realization...

The ultra-annoying Bob Parsons voice over was actually only slightly more irritating than the inane babble that goes on during every minute of the broadcast. I can't imagine how anyone can watch golf on TV without a) the commentary muted and b) the ability to fast-forward on a DVR.

PXB adverts are among the least of the problems with televised golf nowadays.

Some folks buy clubs independent of the advertising message.  But there is a significant number of hair plugged, ostentatious SUV driving, mirror primping, DB’s who like chunky old men telling them what to think in a loud voice.  Bob has tapped into that insecure customer.  Now they feel more manly, and there is $$$$ in that.

They really are, and seem to be getting worse. But when have 2 billion, you probably don’t care that much about what people think about them. I met Mr. Parsons one time, was nice enough but is very confident in his vision for PXG. Profitability is not his main objective. The guy just has a passion for golf clubs and exploring what can be done to make the best performing clubs possible.

Hmmm, didn’t realize the many college programs, PGA tour players, LPGA players, top amateurs, and thousands of others matched your judgement of them based on the clubs they play. Sounds like someone else may be the DB for judging people you don’t even know based on the clubs they play. I don’t own a PXG golf club, but last I checked people could play whatever they want.

My post was even more “in your face” and obnoxious than the ads.  Hopefully the irony was not lost.

My point had nothing to do with the product, only the advertising style and its effectiveness.  My wife plays the 0311 P first Gen, and likes them.  She cringes at the commercials.

Yes, they are bad but not as bad as there customer service.
I have purchased the 0211 irons five months ago. I then bought the Gen 4 0311 irons.
I could write a 45 minute essay on how terrible PXGs customer service has treated me. They have fitters that didn’t know who I should go to for changing swingweights. Same problem with phone customer service. The reps are untrained (the two that I spoke to on consecutive days.
The club fitter was just in a hurry to order my clubs and get his commission. If he did things right, I could have ordered what length and swingweight I wanted. Instead, I must pay to return the irons and pay a $50 labor charge.
I can’t believe how PXG treats customers like we are cheap jerks trying to get something for nothing. When they reply to my specific problems via email, I get a two line canned response. Instead of truly answering my issues, they act like drones that can’t waiver from their horrible policies. They don’t show any effort to understand my issues and work with me as a real person with real issues that should be handled by using common sense as applying justice. They are like a bank that clings to some strict wording in their boiler plate rules.
as I said, their customer service is the worst I’ve ever dealt with. I certainly don’t feel like I’m dealing with a high end company and have paid top dollar for my purchases.
mid the
I can’t believe the CEO knows how badly their customers feel they’ve been treated. They have built zero loyalty with me towards their company. I am making a mission to warn as many people as possible how I’ve been treated.
I haven’t included all issues I’ve suffered through with PXG. There have been four or five. I hope Mr Parson looks into his customer service department to clean it up. It would require training the reps and allow them to solve problems using common sense instead of cutting and pasting their replies to customers. It would cost a few more bucks but the returns in customer satisfaction would be worth ten time more money than the pay now.

also, I can’t believe they deny customers the ability to change swingweights themselves. They give a half-assed reason saying they want to protect us from screwing up and having different swingweights for different clubs. That’s my choice. I don’t need another protecting me from my own stupidity, they imply as much.
this was the whole reason for having adjustable weights on back of their irons. Also, they say that once the weights have been changed, they are locked down and can’t be altered again. WTF?

They clearly state on their website for Gen4 irons "weighting is not intended to be adjusted after purchase". They'll do it, but yes, for a fee. Just like when you get your oil changed, its a service provided and requires compensation.  You can try it yourself, but it voids PXG warranties and good luck finding new weights, they're not available to the public for a reason. The big weight is glued in and they want you to use their local fitters to get properly fit prior to purchasing their Gen4 irons to get it right and avoid situations like yours. I've never had issues telling their local and phone peeps what length and swing weight I want on any of their clubs. They've properly nailed it every time!

I agree with you but I bought these through the fitter. He said that PXG didn’t alter swingweights. I called customer service and the rep told me it could only be done by the fitter. I called another fitter and he told me, correctly, that changing swing weights could only be done by the company in Scottsdale. So… I called Scottsdale. At first the lady said they can’t change them. I nicely explained to her that I was sure it could be done. After a long weight I told her I just email the company to find out. Sure enough, I was informed they will do it, I pay shipping and $50 labor. I wrote a second letter explaining that the fitter and the phone rep gave me bad info or I would have ordered the irons correctly saving all this hassle. She wrote back that they would wave the $50 labor charge but not the shipping costs.
many years ago I had an issue with a Callaway driver. Callaway sent me a new driver in overnight shipping. They included a shipping level for me. ISSUE RESOLVED. I don’t know if they are still that great, but I’d bet my house that they aren’t as bad as PXG.
Please understand that I’m complaining anywhere and everywhere I can. I want PXG to improve their level of service now before their reputation becomes impossible to change in the minds of their customers. The more posts I read from others, the more I see how others

cordially

SMH, you could've put some of this in your original post...Now it looks like they're willing to resolve the issue and you're moaning about shipping costs back to them...C'mon, start a go fund me or something if its that big of deal...

Their customer service is really rock solid. I've even gotten sideways with them over an issue and they went above and beyond to resolve...

Agree on their customer service. Rock solid. Had an issue last week on my purchase of some new Gen3 irons. The fitter "accidentally" hit the 1/2" over button on my order. I had installed my own grips (not the stock PXG crappy grip) and they had to rip them off to butt cut the shaft. After some heated discussion they ended up putting on the Golf Pride grips I needed on there. They made it right for me.

When ordering my Proto driver via phone I had a discussion about length, swing weight and available weights.  I play a shorter driver length and rep said he'd dial in my requested SW without adjusting the 4 weight screws, which I could still order if I further wanted to adjust feel.  Driver came correct length and swing weight (via hotmelt).

FWIW I recently ordered a Titleist TSi fairway and am kicking myself for not specifying "logo down" for the shaft, which I think they will still do by default but accept that my standard is not necessarily their standard.   I should have specified and if it's logo up, it's on me.

The purpose of a commercial is to get your attention. Obviously these do. Now as to whether they live up to the claims they make that goes to truth in advertising, which is an oxymoron anyway. I never trust advertising, only independent test results, and it's not hard to find plenty of those. They're what led me to get my current WITB.

All these whiners just reinforces his marketing plan is working...

Define "working."

These commercials have completely upended PXG's image. They had initially positioned themselves as a classy, ultra-premium brand (poaching some of the top designers from Ping), and had emphasized craftsmanship, customer service and a sort of cool James Bond ethos.

But the new marketing makes PXG seem like some crap discount brand. Parsons sounds like an over-caffeinated WWF promoter, or the owner of some sketchy mattress outlet.

"PXG" used to convey class and quality. Now whenever I hear the name, I just think of monster trucks and roid rage.
