Wie won’t bring viewers to the Masters, but she could bring some younger viewers in. Those that hate McCord and turn off the broadcast because of him can’t say that announcers or media members on TV don’t affect viewership at all.

Anyone remember how awful Duval was when he first started? He is now one of my favorite golf broadcasters. (especially when he's ripping BC a new one).

Exactly! I don't get all the hate. Just goes to show how the golf demographic is. They need to bring in new blood, and new fans, and this is one way of doing it. Could not disagree more. To me, she is far more sophisticated and interesting than most of the rest. Amanda Blumenherst and MW are best in class of the youngish female golf analysts. Obviously they are visually attractive, however, there is something about being really smart comes through with these two. Contrast for example Paige McKenzie; she seems pleasant enough....but my goodness can she get lost down her own rabbit hole of a run-on sentence.

Michelle is a major champion and Stanford grad. who has DONE IT ALL...from being a junior phenom, to a career, to what appears to be a stable: "healthy, wealthy and wise" newlywed. Many folk probably owe her parents an apology.

Don't doubt that a bit (and excited about being below average, lol), my suggestion was for other reasons. I'm not seeing knee jerk "old white man" (whatever the fuck that means) reactions in this thread.

Having said that, she'll apparently be buried online somewhere so that demographic would seem be the least likely she will reach based on what little we know about her role. So not really breaking any new ground and given her likely and very limited presence in "digital" won't be enticing any different demographics.

She's not really joining the "broadcast team" at the Masters in the sense the thread title suggests, let alone at any other tournaments.

And for the umpteenth time (not directed at you!) - I hope she succeeds.

I dont care if she majored in nuclear physics; I've never heard her sound particularly articulate or intelligent. In fact, she's often sounded a bit ditzy and immature in interviews, etc.

I do hope she succeeds though, and I'm sure she'll be coached sufficiently. I will be interested in hearing her perspective during the broadcast if she brings some originality.

This is a laymen's view of it, but not how business works. Maybe per year, (but they may only have 7 yrs left on avg.). If I am running a business, I would promote the marketing folks who could grab the hearts and minds at 20 and keep 'em til 70. Which incidentally is probably the age current 63 year-old white guys got hooked in the first place.
