What is the loft of your 7 iron?

Obviously, we all know lofts are much stronger in 2020 than they were even a couple of years ago. The classic manner of comparing set lofts is the seven iron, and not every has long irons. What is the loft of your seven iron?

X forged 18's 33° not that strong by today's standards but would much rather they were 35°. Had to put a 48° vokey in so effectively have two pitching wedges now with the set one being 45° as the yardage gap was 25-30 yards to my gap wedge.

Seriously, this is a great "question," as most of us here know that due to better tech/loft creep/advertising/etc. today's "7i" isn't the same as yesterday's "7i" which isn't the same as a "7i" from Byron Nelson's day.

But that doesn't change the fact that the majority of us need the same basic bag: One driver, two/three fairway/hybrid things that are forgiving, iron-y things from about 25 degrees to about 45 degrees, wedge-y things from about 48 degrees to about 60 degrees, and a putter.

One of my irons is more like a hybrid, one of my hybrids is more like a fairway wood (metal, lol). I hit my sand shots with my lob wedge, I hit my pitch shots with my sand wedge, I hit approach shots with my pitching wedge and I hit all of the above shots with my approach wedge.

I mean seriously, what's in a name? A 34 degree club would smell just as sweet.....

Titleist AP1 (712) - 34*.

My hickory 7-iron is about 42*. The hickory 5-iron is 34*. Go figure, only 80 years of development.

The 4 iron - Gap Wedge iron set I play now is comparable in loft to the 3 iron - Pitching Wedge iron sets that were available when I started in the 1980s.

The industry just sells you a seven piece iron set instead of an eight piece set. Then force you to buy additional wedges, hybrids, woods, and long irons "a la carte."
