John Daly bladder cancer diagnosis

This hasn't even been mentioned yet on this site. News came out yesterday. JD is going to quit smoking and cut back on the 28 diet cokes per day. Not afraid to die apparently.

I wish him the best, but you can't really be surprised given his lifestyle and a smoking habit. Hopefully this gives him the push to kick those things, and if it doesn't, I hope he can have fun for the time he has remaining.

Not sure how smoking causes bladder cancer but OK. From what I have heard it does not sound the promising. Maybe it is Daly just drumming up more sympathy vote I don't know. I have never been that big of a fan but cancer sucks and I hope he gets better.

I just found about it a few minutes ago.  Not surprised though.  His vices have caught up to him.  I really hope John stays here on this earth a little more longer as he's much too young to go.

I looked it up, and several sources said smoking was a big cause of bladder cancer. Regardless, I hope this is something he beats. I am a cancer survivor, and surgery took care of my cancer, but it has had lasting effects on my life.

Thinking Daly is using cancer to drum up sympathy is an inside thought Quigley.

not 100% what I meant. I was saying I heard it was bad but I don’t know and Daly has very regularly played the feel bad for me card. Now. That i read it, it reads way worse than I meant it.
 

As I said. Cancer sucks.

The way smoking suppresses the immune system overall, it’s a big contributor to many problems - not just lung cancer as many people think. Hell, it is a contributor to many men’s ED from its effects on the cardiopulmonary system. The list goes on. Cannabis on the other hand, well that is less harmful than alcohol, but that’s a topic for another thread elsewhere.

they have anti smoking pictures/warnings on cigarette packs in Canada and one of them is just a toilet bowl with blood, it’s haunting.

I saw Daly's interview and he said it has a 85% chance of coming back. He goes back to the doctor in three weeks and if they find it again, they cut it out again. Sounds to me like a grim prognosis, but John is putting a brave face on it. No regrets....

The carcinogens in tobacco smoke are eliminated from the blood in the urine. The urine is stored in the bladder until elimination, so...

Prayers for John.    I know a lot hate the guy. But for some reason  I’ve always seen him or heard him in a different light.  To me a tortured soul , and although I agree his lifestyle choices likely caused this ..... my opinion is that he’s a better person inside than many who judge him.  Godspeed john. I’ll be lifting you up , and I hope we hear you are cancer free ASAP.

30 years ago I had bladder cancer.  It was caught early (Stage 1) and the urologist told me to quit smoking.  I quit for 10 years but started again & had a recurrence.  Fortunately it was Stage 1 again.  I haven't smoked for the last 20 years and have been cancer-free.  

 

Quit smoking, listen to your doctor and do the exams as often as they say to do.  The exam (cystoscopy) is no day at the beach but hearing you're okay after it is a great feeling. 

 

During one exam a nurse told me I shouldn't drink beer after the exams.  The urologist corrected her and said drinking beer is fine because it's a diuretic and gets things flowing.  

 

Stay strong.  You'll win this.

On top of the smoking, drinking all that artificial sweetener in Diet Coke can’t be good,either. I really hope he gets through this, and makes good decisions going forward. Regardless of golf, he has kids that love their dad, and needs him around.

Naturally, lung/mouth/throat cancer are the most likely cancers to get from a smoking habit, but anytime you repeatedly introduce a highly radioactive element into the body, just about any form of cancer is a possibility.

 

I'm not a doctor, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night.

Most that have met John say he is one of the kindest and realest people you could ever hope to know.  While I have never met him, there isn't a pro golfer that has ever entertained me more in person on the course then he has.   He is a living legend, a true showman, and a throwback to an era when guys dug their games out of the dirt.  There's no way cancer will beat a guy like John Daly, just like there was no way Covid 19 was going to beat a guy like Jack Nicklaus.

The amount of Diet Coke he consumed makes it more suspect to me.  Does not seem to help prostate's too much either.  Combo it with smoking and you have a bad mix.

 

I wish John Daly the best because he is no saint but at his peak he was an amazing golfer.  His Cinderella story win was one of the greatest golf stories ever.   By the way his son won a junior tournament the other day.   I hope John is getting the best treatment he can find. Get well John D.

Ehhh, puffing on 5 naturally fermented and cured tobacco leaf cigars vs. inhaling 40-60 sticks of highly processed, additive-laden cigarettes are two completely different animals. Even the FDA said smoking 2 cigars a day had negligible, if any, health effects (primarily focused on cancer and heart disease). Cigarette smoking took both of my parents and both of my step parents. I hope that JD rights the ship and comes out fine on the other side of this, I've heard nothing but great things in regards to the person he is.
