What’s the Best Feeling in Golf?

Honeybadger

For me the best feeling in golf is that very occasional moment of pure certainty and confidence that you are going to execute the next shot perfectly and then to actually execute the shot.

It doesn't happen often and usually it's on the green when you just know the putt is going in. It's even better when it's on a full swing shot and you can just feel and know that the ball is going to end up where you want it. When you make the shot and it comes out perfectly there's no better feeling.

Bow if only I could get that feeling more often...

I would have to say one of the best feelings in golf is beating an opponent that you aren’t supposed to beat or haven’t beaten yet.  During our member/guest, we have historically been in the top flight against nearly the same teams every year and one team has beat us every year.  Last year, we actually beat them for the first time and it was on our way to winning the flight.

Another amazing feeling is chipping in when you had to chip in to win.  During our horse race (a scramble single team elimination per hole) during our member/guest, we ended up in several chip-offs to stay alive in the competition, but we chipped in 3 times to move on.  For one of the chip-offs, we found out the other team was about an inch from the cup.  Went on to win the horse race.  One of the best golf memories, for sure!

The best feeling in golf for me?  After my buddy and I hit our first tee shots, there is a point right after he steps on the gas peddle of his cart where I put my feet up, take a deep breath and all of the stresses in my life disappear while riding up that first fairway.   Thanks to Covid, I haven't felt that this entire calendar year.

A flushed iron shot, shaped just the way you intended. Nothing better.

I thought about this question for a second and obviously who doesn't love the feeling of hitting it between the screws or stroking a putt dead center cup. But honestly one of the best feelings for me is hitting a bad shot and not letting it effect my emotions at all, like having total zen. It's something I'm working on and it has helped my game immensely.  The moments I can achieve this, there is no greater feeling, and it shows in my scores

Turns out there are a lot of great feelings in golf...  I suppose that is why we all play!

Living in MN, I would have to say that one of the best feelings is when you steal a round back from mother nature!  That 50 degree March day with no snow on the ground, or that warm November/December day where you just have to get out there.  Those rounds, even if the scores, the ball striking and course conditions are not perfect, are just gold.

being able to play

Yes, especially with winter here, it reinforces your thought. When you think about it, it is a great feeling meeting up with your friends to play 18 holes. It really is a great feeling of anticipation getting away from the stresses of life and teeing it up on a beautiful course!

Nothing feels better than standing over an iron shot, having full confidence to hit whatever shot your mind drew up.   Allowing the imagination to run full, smiling knowing that you can totally pull it off, especially when your friends are there to witness the control.

OK I'm 71 years old and have been playing for over 55 years. While I love the new equipment and the new balls which have allowed me to stay competitive with my peers all these years I have a confession. Nothing today feels as good as a balata golf ball purely struck by a persimmon wood. I know most of you have never experienced that feeling. It's like your first kiss from a beautiful young girl. You will never forget it.

The best feeling is well struck shot. The worst feeling is hitting 2 well struck shots, putting for birdie and walking away with bogey

Or to echo this sentiment, hitting a monster drive, leaving only a short wedge to the green, only to duff it and walk out of the hole with a double.

It’s a subjective answer but for me the best feeling is pulling off a shot on the course that you’ve been working hard on. For example, two shots I been obsessed with practice is hitting a draw with my driver and hitting a low flighted high spinning wedge shot. I hit  both of those once or twice in a recent round and I was so happy. Don’t remember much else but it felt good pulling those off.
