Show me your first driver

Plastic kids set was definately my first driver. I am surprised there are not more haha.

My first driver was a MacGregor persimmon with a red insert, 6 brass screws on the face, and Gold Dynamic stiff shaft.  Last time I saw one it was hanging on a wall behind a bar.

My first driver was a Pinseeker Jumbo. Ordered along with a matching 5 wood. This is the best quality picture I can find on a quick search.

 

 

As well as feeling very nostalgic, I remember how excited I was to get a driver. I cannot recall how much it cost my mum and dad to buy but it was a big deal when I got it. Extremely grateful even now that they did get it for me.

my first driver was My Mom's  Wilson Strata Block (read as laminated) Patty Berg Cup Defender.  

 

First I purchased was a Wilson Staff, I think.  My fav from those days was a Macgregor eye-o-magic  (matic but I like the spell check name better).  with the speed step shaft.

Hand me down from my dad's old set. Couldn't hit it worth a damn. Used to tee off with a 2 or 3 iron on most holes instead.

My first driver was a Titleist 975D 9.5* driver (a Tiger effect purchase) in 1999. Had a EI-70 Ultra Lightweight Graphite Shaft. Loved it. 🙂

Johnny Palmer woods I begged my mom to buy me at a department store. I think they actually were some sort of hard plastic heads. I wanted them because they were really shiny and cool looking. Remember I was disappointed on how they hit.

My first was a boxed dunlop set from wal mart but my first name brand was this bad boy:

First one I can recall was a TM r580 XD. Convinced that I could play it today and get same distances if I still had it.

No pictures. I believe it had a blue plastic head with yellow plastic shaft and it did a great job keeping my younger brother and sister in line. Occasionally I hit plastic balls with it.

To show you how old I am relative to the average Golfwrxer, my first driver was a PowerBilt persimmon. Loved that driver, had a Dynamic C (stiff) shaft. Not a Dynamic Gold, but just a Dynamic black band. Eventually switched to TaylorMade and Ping drivers with graphite shafts. Yes, I even had a Ping plywood driver with steel shaft, but quickly went back to PowerBilt.

My first driver. 310cc head. I had been playing for a bit and used an old Alien 5 wood to tee off. Played in a charity match and won the driver for highest score with least amount of putts. I remember someone in the back shouting "Bah! Getting rewarded for mediocrity!"

 

From the get go I bombed the thing until after two seasons I cracked the head. Still have it in the basement somewhere. (pic from ebay, too lazy to go and find mine).

Mizuno SPL persimmon from the mid-late '80's:

*Club length = 43.25 inches

*Steel shaft, original Mizuno Frequency Tuned Lite Weight

*Grip is a Golf Pride ‘Victory’

*Clubhead loft = 10 degrees.

 

This is the actual club - I had it refurbished and it hung over a bar in my games room after I moved onto to metal drivers in the 90's.

Sold it last year.

Such a beautiful club.

You really learn to drive a golf ball when you grow up playing one of these.

My Mom and Pop got this for me for my 25th birthday. Bought it at the Proshop of the 1st golf course job I had, in 1990, for $80. Still holding onto it. Till death do we part. Compared to my Honma T-World 460.

Obviously, I'm showing my age here. I started playing at age 13 in 1963 at a small town nine hole course. I've been told Golfcraft was a small company that was later purchased by Acushnet/Titleist because they made great persimmon woods. This old boy still sits in a corner of my den.

Can't show you, but it was a Palmer Peerless Persimmons. Long ago, in a game starting long ago.
