Bryson says Cobra Drivers suck, Cobra compares Bryson to Temper Tantrum throwing 8 year old

I’ve said before that it is somewhat unfortunate for Cobra that their highest profile staffer plays irons that almost nobody wants (one-length). I do feel he’s helped move some drivers. Well, until today anyway! 😂

Imo Ricky moves more drivers than Bryson.   That year Ricky won at TPC he put on a driving exhibition.

This is just ugly all around. Bryson of all people, given his reputation for taking a data & physics based approach, should understand that as he pushes the boundaries further and further his margin for error gets slimmer. I’m sure whatever Cobra is churning out for him is just as good if not better than whatever any other OEM could come up with given his specific wants. On the other hand, while I have no doubt Schomin’s comments are correct and representative of Cobras real beliefs, he should have known better than to be so candid. No winners on this one.

For me, this is the nail in the coffin of my BDC fandom. I like his willingness to experiment, his dedication to pursuing his own best path, his work ethic, and that he puts out lots of content, but at the end of the day I just can’t root for him. I respect certain aspects of his approach and will continue to watch him closely to learn what I can, but I won’t cheer for him.

Well said. Many in physics understand the law of diminishing returns. BD is understanding that sadly at the birthplace of golf.

He's +1, along side the world number one and miles ahead of Phil. It's not physics or the course, it's the puma shoe that he stuffed in his mouth.

I’ve always considered the ‘arrow’ a blanket analogy for the equipment… Have I been doing it wrong?! 😂

It's just one of those old expressions that became a silly pet peeve of mine.  We all have something that really shouldn't annoy us, but we let it anyway.

Let’s see if he hits his driver tomorrow. I watched the early hours again and Faldo this time was right on the money. If the driver is off on a day, put the damn ball in the fairway. Any 10 handicapper knows if he doesn’t have the stuff with the driver he might back down to a 3 or 5 wood, or long hybrid.
BD mismanaged the golf course. Didn’t respect the rough, and hit some terrible pitches. His driver swing failed time after time, and he wouldn’t accept it. Maybe he learned something. Not sure.

The golf course won. There is nothing wrong with his driver. Courses are littered with bones of The Golfing Machine. You cannot fit your 200 mph swing into a course that will not accept it.

@woodriff "+1".  Maybe Bryson should've shown more respect to Links golf, and learnt from Tiger's Hoylake 2006 example of "no driver needed at the Open".

"Driver or no driver? That is the Open question at long, dry Carnoustie"

BDC can WD with fire ant poisoning for all I care, but I have to give him props in this case. For the first time in the history of golf, an OEM has released a product that is less than superb. If you read the golf publications, marketing, paid player endorsements, every driver made by any OEM with money is the longest, most forgiving, highest spinning, lowest launch, lowest spinning, greatest draw-weighted A+++ product. I have NEVER ever heard of a product less than perfect until today. EVERY driver was perfect, from the Nike Sumo on down.

So thanks BDC for being the ONE GUY in golf who can come out and admit when a product sucks. It will cost you millions of dollars, but I appreciate it. Not buying this Cobra POS.

Just a thought:...

What if this whole situation is exactly what it is?

A professional golfer played a bad round, was frustrated, and lashed-out at something he is close to.  i.e. Cobra golf.

Not uncommon for any person to do:  i.e.  "My wife is the source of all my problems!!! "

They called bullxxxx on him.

He calmed down, and said sorry.

They shook hands, and moved on.

The end.

The speculation that he would burn down Cobra Golf, while laughing and walking away from a burning warehouse is just kinda dumb.  As far as this being a plot to transition to another brand like PXG, that is just silly House of Cards  thinking.

Why can't anything just be what it is?

This is excellent theater.

BDC is socially awkward and lacks self awareness in these circumstances.

I don’t think he’s a bad guy, but just doesn’t always understand social cues and decorum. He needs some media training.

However the remedy for his golf strategy remains to be seen.

For real, the dude is a major 'sperg.

Because it’s more interesting the other way and gives us something to all talk about. Doesn’t help that he seems to be always blaming something and acts like a whiney teenager.

Schomin is not a spokesperson for Puma/Cobra, he's a tour rep . It sounds like he spoke to the writer out of frustration and was caught off guard making some unfiltered comments. No doubt the corporate communicators jumped all over him once they saw what he said and realized they had a crisis on their hands. Now the damage control is underway.

Guy should get a raise for telling it like it is.

I wish DeChambeau would have a Smylie Kaufman like Plummet to the golf world rankings and we can quit listening to him.
