More rude, uneducated fools don't make for a better world or better golf.

No but it does bring in more money. And like any sport as the money goes up, the need for people goes up. Not saying I like it, but these guys won't be playing for the purses they do if it weren't for alot of those loud mouth drunks buying tickets, beer, clubs, PGA Tour subscriptions, and so on.

Grow the game they said, it'll be fun they said. Lmao

I was in the kitchen cooking dinner and the TV in the living room was on GC with the 2020 Masters highlights. When that ended Golf Central came on with Bacon and Diaz. After a few minutes showing the play on Sunday between Cantlay and Bryson, they went totally off track with a long segment where the two of them but especially Diaz were just marvelling over how far he was hitting his “pitching wedge” which is of course the length of a 6 iron. If you had just tuned in you would have thought he had won.  Somebody must have realized they needed to say something about the guy who won so they had Isenhower talk about the Cantlay putting stroke.  But it was a prime example of the media hype over Bryson, and rather disrespectful to the winner.

I finally got around to watching the playoff that I missed.  I saw the handshake at the end and it looked totally conventional and normal to me.  What did you think he was going to do, give him a kiss on both cheeks?  I think that some of you watching on TV really read a lot into what is going on.

Wait...what?  From reading this thread, I thought BDC missed the last putt, threw his putter in the creek, told his caddy to F *ff, walked right past Patrick so he could kick an old lady, then threw out a fan for good measure.  How did I miss the handshake?!

As a biased local guy my predictions obviously failed, but what we got was:

1) The best players on Earth putting on an absolute show with ball in hand the first two days.

2)Greens rolling true enough to see maybe the single greatest putting performance in modern times

3) Probably the best sudden death playoff I have ever seen

Just a week ago the winning score at Liberty was -20, and they had some wind and freak weather roll through. That type of scoring makes for better entertainment IMO.

There was barely any wind the entire tournament and the local area was still recovering from ~5 straight days of major rain. The course shows well on TV and with a crowd that huge (what was the last big crowd like that?) there are bound to be some idiots in it. I won't defend all the asshats who've had too many White Claws during the morning.

Re: Bryson, just because I'm not totally in his corner doesn't mean I can't appreciate what he's doing. His short game has obvious flaws but you just do not see someone that impressive tee to green very often, he's hitting more fairways than prime Tiger and doing it with ball speeds in the upper 190's. I had to remind myself again that he's a 27 year old guy, and that when I was his age I was kind of a self-involved jerk too. He just needs to keep doing what he's doing and find success.

Why not pair him and Cantlay up in 4-balls at the RC? Mix a robot who putts lights out with an electrifying bomber. They might not be besties but they could beat anyone.

Hear, hear. Well stated. Absolutely awesome show.

In 2019, we went to see Pentatonix (wife's fave), and behind us there was nearly a fight because a whole family group refused to sit down.  Security was called, people yelling, awful behavior.  PENTATONIX! for crying out loud.

I agree.  No doubt.  And I’m fine with shouldering the responsibility of that decision.  My own health and well being both mentally and physically is more important than the event.  To me.  For reasons you don’t want to hear , I just can’t be around that many drunks.  When you start wishing for an extinction event to come take you all out , it’s time to just stay away.

it’s not a hot take.  It’s my opinion.  And it’s worth the same amount as anyone else’s.

I understand what you mean.  My last straw was a tame event ( concert for my wife ) that i paid through the nose for semi private balcony seats.  Was basically 2 rows about 20 seats wide each. So 40 people on a balcony.  Of course we’re seated beside the greatest drunk 55-60 year old on earth.

long story short.  After he spilled his 2nd beer on our feet ( second spilled. Not second total ) and rubbed his nasty hand in my boys hair patting him on the head , I actually had thoughts of pushing him off the balcony.   Was time to leave.  And we did.  That’s far from the root of my dislike of public inebriation , but it was the straw that killed this camel.

I'm not saying it should happen. I'm just saying it probably will. Everything else sells out for money. I won't be shocked if golf is no different. I won't like it, but I'm expecting it. Let's face it, TV eventually ruins every sport. Look how college football has been ruined over the last couple decades. Every decision is made with maximizing revenue as the top priority. Everyone is chasing the casual hit n run tv fan at the expense of the long time fan in every sport.

Agree 100%...Bryson is a media driven hype.....IMo He wins one major tournament with bomb and gouge and the hype machine revs up. Can't blame The Golf Channel, without Tiger Woods they need the interest...LOL! Having the governing bodies changing the game, when the average Joe hits his driver 210 yards....now that's funny. IMO, IMO.....300 yards off the tee will be competitive in any pro tournament anything over brings diminishing returns.....IMO I have to admit bryson hit it pretty straight in this event but that's usually not the case.

I attended my first PGA event in 2019. The biggest surprise was what a drinking fest it all is. It was fun, but I can see how things go stupid too easily. It's a cash cow for the event. Literally two handed drinking going on. So some work needs to be done, some reach out, like 'hey party on Garth, but keep your mouth shut and call an Uber'.

Sounds expensive at tournament prices.

But to be honest, sometimes the lines are so damned long (like at a baseball game I attended last week) that if you don't buy multiple beers at once you'll never see the event. Of course, it also requires a second mortgage...
