It is nice to see Bryson had a good round, a fantastic round.  It also brought to mind a thread we had here during the US Open last year.

In that thread there was a long discussion about Bryson's swing and if it was the future of golf, selling out for maximum distance and changing both his body and swing to maximize it.

While I think the jury is still out on this, I really think that at this point Bryson has the most dominating swing on tour, when he is hitting it well and courses fit his style. If this course is 8000 yards long with the soft conditions and very wide landing areas as it has, Bryson dominates the field by a million strokes.

But if the course is even moderately tight with distance and rough, Bryson has trouble. It's because his swing is always on the edge of being uncontrollable and if his timing is not perfect it is very hard to score with. Tiger would complain he only had his C or B game and still shot 3-5 under par, with Bryson he has no B or C game he can score with and will shoot below the median score on the course if he isn't dialed in.

That's not to say it won't change in the future and he will become much more consistent, but for now Bryson is definitely a guy who needs a course set up to play to his strengths. At this course he is in his element and should win comfortably, at a place like ANGC he is not, and will have trouble winning there.

Comments welcome.

How long is 13 playing today.  Louis just dumped 7 wood into the water way short.  I know it was mishit.  But even so.  It must be 240 or so in actual yards ?

This is on target.

Now, if BD had game around the greens, he’d really kill it anywhere.

This is how Tiger (who? ; ) always was gonna beat you.

Hit it far.

Get up and down from anywhere.

Sink 10 footers.

BD can do the former and the latter (if he’s in the groove)

Wedge game is an issue.

I disagree at least partially. I agree if Bryson is driving it well he dominates the field. However, I believe this is true on a 7,000 yard tight golf course or an 8000 brute. Growing up rough and pinching in fairways simply exacerbates his advantage

now in reality, Golf is hard and more often than not he won’t drive it optimally. 3 or 4 weeks per year he will dial that driver in and cady bar the door because he will be very difficult to beat

These guys are really on another planet and wow Bryson when he is on can the young man play some golf?  This course is so freaking long but with soft conditions they're playing darts.

So he dominates by playing well every so often?

Most dominating swing on tour can't just be "dominating" once in awhile.

Don't count out Rors, he can cement his legacy as "Mr Playoffs" with a win today. Just like Reggie Jackson, Rors tends to play his best golf during the playoffs. Rors is the king of playoff golf, and he might just show it again by winning this tournament and winning the entire playoffs.

Interesting theory.  Interesting theory.  Mmmm-hmmm.  BUT I'll just throw this out there as an alternative.  Rory goes 74-62 on the weekend to extend his mastery of the back door top-ten.
