OEM known for hybrids

You know how Titleist, Mizuno, and Srixon are known for irons. And TaylorMade and Callaway are known for drivers/woods. Who do you think is known for hybrids?

 

Best technology/best design/popular/sells the most... however you take "known for" to mean.

Just bought a new A7 ... they are about the only hybrid that doesn't want to go left for me.

I would say Sonartec, at least for a time. When Todd Hamilton won the 2004 Open Championship at Troon, I distinctly remember he had a Sonartec utility that he had bent down to like 15*. This was back when utility/hybrid/rescues were not that prevalent. I am pretty sure Sonartec went under but I don't think I ever saw a Sonartec club that wasn't a utility. Also, they are a JDM so that probably has a bit to do with it.

I still have my 2, 3, and 4 Adams Pro A12 Hybrids and will never get rid of them. The PXG Gen 2 Hybrids are the only ones that knocked them out of the bag. And the only reason for that is feel, the PXG's just have a little softer feel at impact. Other than that the Adams and PXG's are identical in distance and dispersion.

Tour Edge Exotics are worth a look. They have some of the best fairway woods and hybrids on the market.

Back in the day, first Nickent, then Adams, really ruled the hybrid market in my neck of the woods. Adams pretty much covered all of the bases when it came to designs - from really small "iron-like" profiles to mini-FW heads similar to the Callaway UW.

 

Since then, I think every major manufacturer has done their best to figure out how to make decent hybrids on their own. Like other clubs, there are some exceptional models that come out every few years - the Ping Anser Hybrid from 2012 comes to mind in that respect.

 

I personally play what I think are two rather underrated models - the Callaway Razr X Tour and Titleist 913h. Both perform well for me.

Adams (therefore Taylormade).

 

Not sure how many tour pros are using hybrids these days.  I know Rory had a SIM Max in his bag for a while when they came out.   The SIM 2 Rescue and Stealth+ Rescue look like they directly use the Adams design.  Not sure how they compare exactly.

I had one of these in my bag when I was in middle school, and maybe into my first year of high school.  I'm taking a guess that this probably could be considered a hybrid in that time in that it was smaller than a 5 wood but still not an iron.  I guess for that reason I've always kind of associated the hybrid thing with TM, even tho I don't use a TM hybrid these days.

From my own experience Tour Edge hybrids are very good.  The EXS Pro's are fantastic.  I've never hit a Callaway hybrid I didn't get along with either.

I don't know about new stuff, because the Adams hybrids I have are excellent. I have 2 from a box set of theirs and I like them a lot.

I had a Nickent 3dx 3 hybrid with the yellow and black v2 shaft that was awesome. I tried to replace it with an Adams and never got along with the Adams. I eventually moved on from the Nickent and have yet to find a hybrid with as good of ball flight since.

Agree with all the Adams up-votes in this thread.

 

What's interesting to me is how several people I know call their hybrids "rescue" clubs, regardless of the brand they play. And because of that, if someone asked me to do a word association game and said "Taylormade" I'd probably respond "rescue" too. Not "Sim", "stealth", "R11" or anything like that.

 

Props to Taylormade marketing I guess.

Cleveland. Not only do they have long iron and fairway wood replacement hybrids but the Launcher XL Halo irons are more like hybrids than irons, especially the 4 through 7.

For a non dead company, I would say that Titleist is.  I think that everything from the 915 up has been very playable.  I've had the 816H2, 818H2, TS3 and TSi2 and all almost interchangeable for me and could play any (tho the TS3 will stay in the bag.

If you look at bags on tour there doesn’t seem to be a hybrid brand that gets more play in free agent bags than any other, however I’d say more Callaway staffers use hybrids than other OEM but that is just a hunch

 

everyone makes a good hybrid now just depends what “dna” you like in a hybrid. Callaway is more iron like, whole ping is more like a mini wood than a square face iron. Titleist and TM have a couple models to fit bit of those points

Timely post. I'm looking to purchase an 18.5* after reading "the most forgiving hybrid" thread. Curious to see if the legendary 3dx lives up to its reputation.
