Not saying the outcome would've been different but when these guys don't know the Rules,,,,,,,,,,,,

I believe I have this correct.

The drop off the cart path was right near a sprinkler head. In fact that sprinkler was right behind his back foot after the drop.

a) that sprinkler head was in his relief area and b) the lie he ended up with was pretty flat/bare, something us ams would absolutely hate. Could almost see the chunk coming.

There was a bit of "fluffier" grass to his right but it looked to be a little outside his relief area, similar to the lie his partner had in the rough for his 2nd to the par 5 - i.e. almost perfect.

However, he took care to drop where the sprinkler head did NOT affect his stance - thus, his ball was in play and he had to hit it.

Option - Had he dropped his ball where the sprinkler head would have affected his stance, he then gets relief from the sprinkler, roughly another club further away and very likely within his new relief area - which would've been in the fluffier grass giving him a little cushion to go under the ball w/o chunking it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

A great man once said "Knowledge of the Rules is part of the applied skill set which a player must use to play competitive golf"

Right @sui generis :classic_biggrin:    (Geez, I'd better be right this time LMAO)

My comment had nothing to do with rules. Trainer chunked a chip and then had a putt to tie it up and didn't even hit the hole.

Understood. Just commenting on his "tough finish". :classic_wink:

I don't get it...the no-name guys were so tight.

They were playing with house money...they had nothing to lose.

I always root for the underdogs, but this was painful to watch...

How did they have nothing to lose?  2 year exemption and like 700k more each for winning is nothing to lose for 2 journeymen?  This was their ryder cup, us open, fedex cup etc.

They already had big $ in the bank and were expected to lose. So they were already far ahead of where either of them thought they would be on Thursday.

I like underdogs, but these guys were intimidated from the get go. They lost the playoff before they teed it up...

Pressure on the back nine come Sunday is a real thing...

The moment was too big for them, so they wet the bed. 😆

I wasn't watching diligently but thought I heard the announcer say it had been five hours since they had played a meaningful shot at the time of the playoff.  Was that true-ish?

Even when guy hit the drive that he hooked I didn't really understand what the commentator guy was saying about hitting his normal draw but still needing to start the ball left due to the wind.  I suppose he was attempting to hold it against the wind but still let the wind take it.  That is a lot of calculating that has to go right in my book.

I thought they said it was about 3-ish hours.

They had a great final round to post -25 and the announcers thought, at that time, it likely(?) wouldn't hold up.

He did and I found it, thanks - not really a "struggle", he just has to mind taking it back and can't get quite where he got before (talks about his external shoulder rotation) without sometimes getting sore, definitely had an impact, but nothing he fights or struggles with -- but he did make a change and gets a "reminder" when he isn't doing it right.  He's not trying to get back where he was, swings fine the way he does it now.

He did also say during the last Happy Hour he was on he hasn't felt free with his irons the way he was at Congressional since that win more or less. Still seemed to have it at least through his last PGA to me, but that's how he put it, so he lost his true "it" feel with the irons long before he messed up the rib.

He's talking wistfully about how free his swing looked when he was a lot younger more than about going back to that a in any serious way.  He still has "it" and it's pretty good!

I think Scottie / Nelly would have been an interesting pairing. Two #1s. Theirs goes to 11.

It also might have the effect of causing Scheffler to have some marital troubles, which could impact his game, which we all know @Ferguson would be in favor of.

They didn't have to deal with back 9 pressure because they finished so early.

Except for the bad weather, I don't think either of them thought their score would hold up...

what?  No they had EVERYTHING to lose.  Your comment doesn't make much sense to me.   a two year exemption for both of them (plus whatever major(s) this win gets them in) is life changing.  meanwhile, for Rory and Lowry, this win is next to meaningless to them.  They're basically out there messing around and having fun.

I don't think either of them ever dreamed they'd have $970,100 in their pockets standing on the first playoff hole.

They were odds-on favorites to lose 95 out of 100 times.

My attitude would have been, 'This is awesome and I hope I win, but either way I'm going down swinging because I may never get this chance again.'

Instead, one guy pulls the tee shot, the other guy hooks it off the planet, the original guy lays the sod over it...

I think we just have a different way of looking at it : )
