PING'S MAIN BUSINESS IS NOT GOLF

"Karsten also owns several subsidiaries involved in the manufacturing process of its golf clubs. Because of their technical expertise these businesses have other commercial applications. Karsten Engineering, for instance, does research for clients such as NASA, IBM, and Motorola. Dolphin Inc., a foundry and brazing operation, not only casts putter and iron heads, but also produces precision parts for a number of airplanes and weapons systems, including the Stealth bomber and the M-A tank."

ya know it's an "interesting" concept, but can it deliver?? IMO this PING iron is pointed right at the biggest competition... irons like the Callaway Apex line, and the TaylorMade 7 series heads. you could squabble about EXACTLY which head among those this PING i59 is most like. but one thing is for certain, this i59 is a players head size, but high MOI, and a slight distance augmentation iron.

(( I was always hoping for the next gen of S55, an iron that never truly happen **sorry, but iBlade was NOT an iron worthy of comparison to anything S series** an iron that on paper didn't hit it any further than S55, and kept it's appearance. but improved the feel of the S55 by going away from the old 17-4 stainless. dabbling in PING's current usage of 8620 metal, maybe keeping the imbedded tungsten toe weights, and incorporating their newer, soft elastomer CTP, similar to one found in i210. now THAT would have been an amazing iron!!! ))

In this Youtube video (around 8:40 mark) Hovland talks about the i59's and straight up says they aren't forgiving enough in the longer irons.  Aesthetically the i210's didn't blend well enough so it sounds like that is how he went back to iBlades in the longer irons.

If one of the best ball strikers on tour says the long irons aren't forgiving enough, I'm out.  Big miss if that is the case.

meh, sounds like he's still trying to transition a few things. I wouldn't conflate his tinkering with a complete assessment of i59.

EDIT: I mean FWIW up to this point he's played an "unusual" combo in iBlade longs and i210 shorts.

My “confirmation”. I trust Karstens ghost and am really hoping for a price around $200. 23 years old, 4 handicap and currently playing my first set of irons (Ping G). Would really like to stay with ping clubs as I love the brand but if the rumors are true the close to $250 an iron price tag will be tough especially when I’m not sure if they’ll be any better than the T-100. I like the look of the I-59 more though.

$250 a club?  That's crazy.  2X more expensive than the i210.

Yep. Granted the i210s came out a few  years ago. I59 will be closer to a blueprint with i210 forgiveness supposedly.

They sound interesting.  But, for me there are a lot of really good options coming in hundreds of dollars less for a set that I could just as easily live with and be perfectly content.  Just my .02.  Not saying they aren't worth it to those that buy them.  They sound like a great club and they look amazing.  Just priced out of my range.

Except based on all the split sets we see on the tours and from the Hovland video it doesn't appear to have anything close to the i210 forgiveness.

I’m skeptical too. Just relaying the info that was given to me. Also tour players have better feel then us mortals. Lol

> Mate, don't trust me. I was simply going by what they've done in the past where there's a normal "gap" in a released RRP and mandated minimum. It seems like nothing is "normal" or "regular" anymore.

Those confirmed 7 club orders for 1750… my goodness that's a lot compared to what we're used to. Now, I don't begrudge the price point; they clearly have some sort of data saying that's where they should be, but personally it seems like a lot. $250/stick for irons… they had better aim themselves.

I'm glad I went with a re-shaft project on the blueprints. Now that said, if they have some premium iron shafts for no upcharge…. we'll see.

If these are $250 per club, ping screwed up. Relative to competitors prices that are $50-$75 lower per club I have no reason to even consider them anymore after wanting to finally move on from my i20s which have been great. So much for the hype of a great iblade follow up lol, I'll get some Callaways instead.

I think it might be easier to count the full sets.  3 or 4 between the PGA and Euro Tours. Conners, Mahan, Nienaber and Veerman?  Another concern is other players put them in the bag and my last check on Ping's site showed those players have gone back to their old irons (mostly iBlades and i210's)

Obviously we still don't everything about this iron and nobody has hit it but it doesn't appear to the iron of all irons (compact, less offset, close to i210 forgiveness) that was speculated months ago and couple that with the $250 a club price tag...a lot of questions still to be answered

This right here. I don't think there has ever been a set put into play so ubiquitously in both PGA and LPGA as the i210. Maybe an AP series.

If I could get i210s in the Srixon grinds.... hiuuuuuuuuunnnggggg

At that price point just go get a PXG Gen4 0311T iron.  I was hoping to replace my PXGs w/ these, I think I’ll go w/ the Mizunos I ordered just in case these came out late ‘21-‘22.

GAMER SETUP:

Callaway AiSmoke TD 8* @ 7* | Tour AD HD 7s

Callaway AiSmoke TD 3W | Denali Black 6.0 70g

TaylorMade SIM Ti 5W | Tour AD TP 7s

Callaway Apex Black 4-P | Nippon Modus 120 S +1"

Titleist 48* @ 49* Vokey SM9 | Nippon Modus 120 S +1”

Titleist 54* @ 55* Vokey SM9 | Nippon Modus 120 S +1”

If that’s the price point, I’m out. Play S55 and have been waiting to replace and was hoping for another “S” type release. Looks like they might push me back to Titleist irons.

Anyone know when these will be in fitting carts?

My pro told me this week that his fitting heads had already shipped. I am not sure if he has an embargo on putting them out but I'll be able to see them as soon as they come in. Like everyone else on here, they are too steep for me. I bought some PXG Gen 3s to hold me over until spring when the 500 and 200 series are released.

Do you know if Ping is continuing their iblade or will the i59 replace it? I'm looking to order a set of the iblades and want to know if I need to do it within the next few weeks before their gone. I'm assuming it will be a cheaper price point and honestly prefer the more rounded look at address compared to the i59 that has the sharper lines and higher toe. Or at least that's what it seems to me from looking at the pictures.
