Spot on. Vosh said the exact thing today in a podcast. They didn't want to strengthen the lofts, but they had to in order to keep up with other clubs in that category.

He did say it doesn't effect the flights and stopping of the ball as they moved weight around to accomodate it.

It's no coincidence that the 7-iron is down to 31 degrees and that's the iron you happen to hit in the store. And now you're stuck with these 5-6 degree gaps in your short irons.

I understand why they do it, they will probably sell more irons. I just don't like it, and I don't think every company is doing it - Look at PING i210s or the new TM 770s.

The problem is you are comparing the wrong products. The 921 forged doesn’t go head to head with the p770 or the i210 as much as it does the p790 and the i500, or that’s how they are positioning it. If you want a traditionally lofted players cb you need to go to mp20 range unfortunately or go the whole way to the tour. I think the mistake was in making the hmp more like the hot metal instead of creating a hotter version of the forged and leaving the forged as it was. The new forged lofts kind of make the hmp an even weirder proposition, but what do I know.

I think the idea is to make the HMP more forgiving compared to forged. This makes sense with smaller blade length and thinner top line on forged and larger blade length on new HMP.

really excited about the looks of the forged but the 5* gap in the short irons makes me pause. Did the 919s have similar gapping and what was your experience on the course with the short irons.

I’ve never had a problem with a 5° gap between clubs.

I think they range looks great, although I wish there was the same gaping as the SEL!
Having a look at the lofts, would it viable to go with 6-GW in the tours and have a 5 iron (24 degree) and 6 iron (27 degree) in the forged (so carry two 6 irons) ? That would make a three degree difference between the top three clubs in the bag and given the forged is hotter due to the chromoly, gaping might not be an issue? Or would it be best bending clubs a degree or two strong/weak?

The JPX Forged line has had similar gaps at 4 and 5 degrees going back at least to the 850 Forged. I don't know why this is suddenly an issue when the the last 3 iterations have had the same 5 degree gap starting at 9i.
The 825 Pro went 3 degrees from 4 - 6, the 4 degrees from 6 - PW, then 5 from PW to GW. The 850F started a 5 degree gap from 9i, the 900F had 5 degree differences starting at the 8i.

Yeah, the lofts are a bit disappointing. I think the thing to do would be to bend the Tour 6 a degree strong, then a Forged 5 a degree weak. I really wish the Hot Metal Pro had more traditional lofts as that would've worked for the long irons too. Or have a utility iron similar to the MP18 FliHi's. I know it's tough work coming up with exactly which models to bring to retail, but not having a utility/driving iron type club to seamlessly blend with a players cavity back is a pretty big miss, IMO.

I have not watched the video yet but I am hoping I can get something similar to SEL in righthanded. Seems weird that they make their "best blended set" and only make it available to 5% of the market.
Even though I get why lefties love it, as they are usually blocked out from the cool stuff

I think embargo was lifted today tbh. Usually the press release with the official launch info marks the end of the embarge. That means, if the info is up on WRX, mygolfspy and the other sites, its usually also dropping on YT

It looks like I'm going to have a heck of a time making a decision for next season. My 850F are getting long in the tooth...or more honestly, I'm just guilty of a wandering eye...
Full set of 921 Forged? Combo set of 921 Tour (7-G) and 921 Forged (4-6)? Combo set of 921 Forged and HMP? TM P770?

I had a set of 919T built with LZ blackout as soon as they were released, played a full season, no wear at all, but also use a Silencer bag.
The finish seems very durable IMO

Interesting - my 919 Tours are at the same loft spec as the SEL(perfect), but looking at right handed it looks harder to blend the lofts of 921 Forged to Tour.
I love my 919 Tours,, won't be changing them.
My dad was going to go 4/5 forged then 6-W in Tour, getting the 22* 4 iron, 26* 5 iron, 30* 6 iron seems harder to get now.
Any ideas?

I was ready to pull the trigger on the 919 HMP but wasn't able to due to covid (no fittings). It looks like the 921 HMP may have moved more in the direction of a game improvement iron, so I will likely give the forged a good look. If I go with the HMP, I could probably skip the 4 iron HMP and start with the strong 5, but it's really all a guessing game when you only get to hit a 7 iron. Does Mizuno, or any other clubmaker, offer some type of guide that will give you approximate distances for each club through the set based on your numbers with the 7 iron during a fitting.
I think the rule of thumb is 4 yards per degree of loft, but does that hold true for different types of irons, especially with the modern strong lofted high launching clubs? I assume one degree of loft in the tours are not equal to one degree of loft in the Hot Metals. Anyway, hopefully you know what I'm getting at and can offer some advice.

Thanks.

really disappointed at the offset as it is the exact same as the 919 tour. I am going to experiment with bending my tours 2* weak and shortening the length of the club 1/2 inch and replacing my gap wedge with another iron at the top of the bag.

lowering the center of gravity of irons with all the new technology is going to launch the ball higher. i've had a set of z565, ap1, forgedtec blacks and they all launched pretty high with stronger lofts. If you like them, give them a try. You might be pleasantly surprised.

Assuming a late August fitting, when could we expect to receive a set of these? I've heard that Mizuno has a backlog of 32,000 sets of iron at the moment. The hype around the new irons will only add to that. I don't see how anyone can have these in their hands before November, without buying off the rack.

Would be hard to tell with how far Mizuno is behind, but they are quoting 30 days for what it is worth
