Battle of the All Time Greatest Irons

A few suggestions:

MacGregor VIPs, perhaps? Although I prefer the Mac Murifield 20th irons.

1973 Hogan Apex, or Apex II.

Mizuno's a tough one. MP-32 or 33s are both good choices, but the MP-14s should be considered. Tiger Woods won his first Masters playing a combo set of MP-14s and 29s, IIRC.

Wilson: the FG-17s were incredibly popular irons.

 

Also another vote for the EYE2s and Armour 845 Silver Scots.

For Titleist, I was going to say the DCI 962, but the OG AP2s are also a good suggestion.

No offense intended, but no, and its probably not even close.  Wilson and MacGregor likely are the top two, and its possible Hogan is in there ahead of them, as well.  Spalding might be, also, though their departure from the blade world may have come too early for it to be true.

Good call! I forgot about the Executives. When I was a kid, a lot of the seniors played Executives or Browning 440s. Those were kind of the hybrid style irons of their day and it made the game fun for those guys and kept them in the game.

I'm not sure that gets it done, either.  Maybe if you count actual player endorsements, but if you look to usage, there have been a lot of players in this century that have dipped into the old Mizuno pool (which I don't think exists any longer?) 

 

There are a lot of smaller fish in that pool, but they've still been tour players.

 

Would probably need Darrell Survey data to really know for sure.

I don't know... My high school coach had eye2s with headcovers (until we removed them into a dumpster for him). He was a nice guy. Chemically dependant, yeah a little. But, relaxed as they come.

 

All time great's is tough - too much to choose from, most I've only ever seen on ebay.
