How Many Rounds In Year?

Primo1868

Recommended Posts

Just looking back at the number of rounds I’ve played in 2021 compared to previous years. It makes sense that last year (after playing 88 rounds) my handicap dropped 5.3 pts.

Now I’m curious:

What do you consider an “I’ve had enough” amount of golf rounds in a year?

I was still itching to play more after 88, I could have easily had 120 if I committed to it.

My happy spot would be three to four rounds a week.  Got close to that in 2020 with Covid.  Not so much last year.  80 rounds in 2021 was not enough, but life got in the way a lot.

With kids, work, and weather, I'm fortunate to get in 20-30 rounds a year these days. But, I practice religiously and am never far from the game.

I used to think I needed to play all the time to remain sharp, but the past five years have shown me that I can still improve if I practice more and play less.

I'd love to be able to play 3-4 times a week, but in reality (due to work, life, weather, etc.) I only get out to the course 1-2 times a week. Maybe a third time to practice if I'm lucky.

Any more than 4 times a week (so 200 rounds a year give or take), and I think I'd start to get burnt out. It's a hobby for all of us not a profession so I'd still want half the week to do the other things I enjoy in life.

All that said... Once I retire I might end up playing 7 days a week 🤣!

I'm lucky to get in 40 rounds a year.  I've never felt like I played too often, including when I was in school playing virtually every weekday.

Blasphemy talk on WRX.....it's 24/7 golf or it's nothing...just sayin.

I got an annual pass last year....150 rds plus practice at a closer facility.

I would have played more but the golf course was 50 km away.

I was typically about 100 a year previously.

About 60 time a yr when I was working FT.

Played every week in a mens league, but the weekend rounds dropped off significantly since my buddy I play with started having all these kids. I need to find a new playing partner or 3 😂😆

From March - October, I walked/carried at least 9 holes at lunch every Mon thru Fri.  I hate playing on the weekends, so I typically don’t.  I can walk 9 hilly holes daily in just over an hour, so it works out perfectly because the course is just across the street.

Just wish they were ALL 18 holes

I was lucky enough to play 154 rounds in 2021.  This is the most that I have ever played.  After retirement, I worked part time at a couple of courses but due to COVID, I stopped working and started playing.  Could have played more but hurt my back a couple of times and sprained my foot stepping in a hole while on the course. Setting a goal of 175 rounds this year.

Not exaggerating here but probably close to 300. Retired 1.5 years ago at 63 and pretty much play every day depending on the weather. On weekends we will play a minimum of 36 each day as well. Live just south of Houston so pretty descent weather most of the year.

You would think I could qualify for the Senior tour but HCP seems to be stuck around 5 - 7. Stayed around 10 - 12 before I retired.

I probably averaged 2+ rounds a week so I bet I'm up over 100 rounds total in the last year.

I think you start to notice when you're playing for the 3rd or 4th day in a row. That's always a lot.

Only 30 rounds last season. I plan on playing a lot more when I retire in a few years. When I was younger and working nights, I played 100+ every season but older, injured more, lazy now. Nova Scotia's season is also probably only 7 months of good weather.

I played 185 full rounds and 7 nine hole rounds, despite a five week lockdown in mid April. I live in Ontario, first round March 12. I have no problem playing every day and play a variety of sets (hickory, classic, modern).

I have played 21 days in a row several times. So what if I get a little tired, I am having fun.

This was something that my wife asked me over the holidays, how much golf do I actually play and honestly, I had no idea how many rounds I had last year. So decided this year that I would keep a note of how many times I got out there, how many holes I played and how many birdies & eagles I make…I don’t need the negative vibes of recording the bogies 😂

115 rounds in 2020, 97 this past season.

It was less in 2021 because I hurt my back pretty bad in mid-September and was forced to take a break for a few weeks. If not for that, I am not sure the words "I've had enough" are even in my vocabulary.

That's the problem with these young kids they all start having kids and getting wives

U need to find retired people to play with.. The only downside there is they start to die off after awhile

I guess the best would be a mix of both lol

Haha yea you're right, I need to play more with my pops this year, he gets a couple league rounds in every week. But he's not always up for the 5pm rounds with me after work, and he's also not always keen on a weekend round at a big track. I might just start booking as a single next year and hope I can meet some decent people. I find I enjoy playing with my old man more than anyone though.

Not quite 1 a week, I would say 2021 was ~40.  This year I have been averaging about 3 a week so who know for 2022.   I quit practicing and started playing more.  I follow Johnny Miller's school of thought.

One of the advantages of being semi-retired and also working P/T at a course is that I can play a lot.  Never sat down and counted, but with great weather in the South, I easily played 3 times a week all year last year.  Maybe a little less in January and February, but definitely more most of the summer.

Estimated.....130-140 rounds in 2021.

I am pretty sure I played at least 200 rounds last year and that was the goal. I have been averaging 3-4 days a week, but my office shut down again, so I'm playing less during the week.

I couldn't play every day, but I don't know that I can play too much. Of course I've only been kinda serious about it since summer of '20, so who knows.

I've only been out for 3 weeks when there was snow on the ground.
