Most Forgiving One Pieced Forging

JStang

Recommended Posts

What do you think is the most forgiving one piece forging available in OEM's most recent offering? I'm talking no slots, injected goo, tungsten plugs etc. Just a good old solid chunk of metal.

My point is that there aren't many OEM's offering this outside of blades and even some blades have some tungsten in them. JPX 921 tour comes to mind?

I suspect the best options could come from the JDM market.  The Japanese really love their forgings.  There aren't any good options being sold currently in the USA.  In years past, I'd say PP-9003 Miura's, but they aren't made anymore.

Srixon Z785 or previous 7 series irons.

Not sure why he doesn't like tungsten, but the Srixon long irons do have a tungsten plug near the toe.

My Z-765's are outstanding. Best feeling irons I've ever hit.

The 2015 OnOff Kuro's I just sold were a bit more forgiving, but also had tungsten in them.

In both irons, you really can't tell that they have tungsten in them. And the short irons don't have any.

New Level 623-M, MB or CB.  All very forgiving player's irons that are one piece even the M and MB which are obviously blades.  Pretty big sweet spot with a little more offset than traditional blades which will also help get the ball up.

Easy answer for me - just went through all this:

Srixon 765 or 785...quite similar in actual design to Mizuno MP 63 and 64s..the last great feeling Mizunos IMO.  The new club designs and fillers are certainly hotter and springier - but they kill the feel and enjoyment.  Even though they are listed as player's irons the 765 and 785s are EASY to hit.

The ZX5s and 7s are great feeling clubs - I just don't like the looks of them.  But for feel - I think Srixon has just nailed what I love....soft but also "solid" when struck well - and add the forgiveness too the feeling is more often.  Sole design makes turf interaction so easy.   Love the irons.

If you want forgiveness you need to start introducing tech, otherwise it's not really a criteria worth considering. It's a bit like asking "which 4-cylinder cheap economy car has the most horsepower" or "which massive SUV gets the best gas mileage". Your primary criteria (one piece forging) is antithetical to getting much out of the secondary (forgiveness) to the point that you need to compromise somewhere if you want any meaningful amount of the latter, or just simply not worry about it.

My prior set of irons, CB Pro Tungstens, were GI irons with hollow heads and tungsten weighting in the soles. Due to the tungsten, the irons only had modest sole width. Great turn interaction.

(I moved on due to KBS Tour shafts being a bit too heavy for me; I'm now all graphite except for putter.)

Old is right. Might be time for you to join the 21st Century. Are you trying to impress scramble partners on the first tee box, or are you trying to play better golf?

If we’re going no tech of any kind and only using recent offerings from OEMs, then the Honma TW747v fit the bill. Crazy soft and they had plenty of distance. Now, was the distance from the club heads or the jacked lofts in every iron except PW? Umm…err…listen, they felt great. I don’t miss them because the ZX7’s are so good but I enjoyed the TW’s immensely.

Agree J40 DPC, I just pickup a set of these.

Doesn’t it feel like the ball just melts into the face…. It’s a very unique sensation….. i have the 3 iron in that set and it just goes for days….. yet doesn’t feel hot or anything like modern game improvement clubs…

I even game a couple sets of Miura’s and the Bridgestones are in a league of their own.

Still game the Z745s and don’t plan on changing until they get worn to the ground. Getting a lot more rust chip areas on the face and sole but my next set waiting are a Z785s haha with the same setup and everything just waiting in line. Prob gonna have the Z745s restore and refinished raw when I switch em

I play Adams A4 forged irons and they are incredibly forgiving for a  one-piece forging. They're certainly not the latest and greatest, but I love them. And I get really good distance out of them too.

I have no issues with tungsten and have played plenty of sets with tungsten. I am just asking the question as it seems like the days of a single piece of steel is becoming obsolete unless you want to play blades.

ZX7's were great irons, I had them bent a degree weak as they were a bit hot for my liking then moved on to 223 pro's which were even hotter. I would rather be short of a pin / green than long any day of the week and I was flying too many greens with the 223's so I moved on to a set of JPX 921 tours which are far more consistent. It just had me wondering what's out there that could be a touch more forgiving than the 921 tour's in a single piece forging.
