How’s your golf going this year?

Recommended Posts

I’ve played 9 holes since last October. I clunked it around and somehow managed to shoot 38. I’m taking that as a sign that it’s gonna be a good year or that was a tease before the really bad stuff comes my way.

I have been able to get around fairly well (not enough to keep the handicap from going back up, but not so bad I want to quit and walk off the course). I do need to get in for a lesson asap and sort out what is causing the shank and see if it is a byproduct of progress or an actual problem.

Nevermind, sorted out the issue, just getting too inside on the takeaway. Thank god for smartphones and coaching analysis apps.

Finally back in the 80s after an extensive trip north of 95. Won't say how far north I got.

Did an I'll advised golftec swing analysis (trigger warning) last year sometime, tried to change something, tanked hard, iron shanks for months, and finally pulled out of it with some good instruction and enough reps.

Barring a few bad breaks the round could have been an all time low.

Takeaway: confidence restored.

Until the next time this temptress decides to remind me of the obvious.

I am finally getting 18 holes in tomorrow morning. I have been in the simulator most of the winter and got a couple lessons, so really looking forward to seeing whether those changes will help. My tournament scores last year ranged from 78 :D to 109 :'( , so I'm just hoping for some sort of consistency this year.

Bi polar x wife, sounds like Steven King material. Like others the shoulders are killing me, and trying to work that out. I need some grass to start growing, I mean it is already April? Changing clubs looking for the elixir of youth, bah ha! Lost some moolah to my golf buds, and not happy. I did have a good round the last time, so things are looking up. Positive was the driver, amazing. Got rid of the outside in swing, and really good, no more pull hooks. Irons are doing a lot better, as I added some lead tape and the P790's are behaving. Love my putter, love it.

Haven't played yet. Went to the range on two cold and rainy days. Nothing looked out of place. I think this year I am going to move down in flex and try some more forgiving equipment. No real reason for it - just want to change things up a little.

Finally played today and the course was less than ideal but it was a rust buster and will only get better from here. Shot an abysmal 84 on a par 61 course. I had a birdie chip in, 5 pars, 3 bogeys and 9 double bogey or worse. Upside only 26 putts so putting wasn't my downfall.

My downfall was some of my wedge play on certain shots, on others I was making up and down easy so know what to practice. The other was just figuring my distance with new irons but I don't think I was using the right ball for me, spun way too much. Not going to make excuses I have other things to fix and a few more rounds I should be better but just glad to be out again.

I hope you recover fully. I have played 2 and a half rounds. I set a goal to break 90 this year. I haven’t played much since 2015. I took that summer off to lose 43lbs on a diet I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy. (Stage 3 throat cancer with chemo and radiation. ) I have been blessed to see my cancer go into remission. I had to make a swing change. My elbow was sore after the first 9 and I realized my weak grip was the issue. I was stressing elbow sideways. Now that I changed to the back of my elbow pointed to target I have found 5 to 15 yards of distance and tee to green hitting some very solid shots. Putting is tough to gauge as the early season greens are wooly. I have absolutely lost the ability to chip and pitch. When I hit the greens with a full shot I have already racked a half dozen pars. So I know what I need to work on to hit my goal. I have shot a 47 on my best 9 so there is hope. The bottom line is that just playing the game is awesome ?. I have been playing 90 to 110 golf for 33 years and it’s better than not playing at all.

Oddly. I used to play with 4 or 5 clubs and and got down to a fearless goat track 7 with them. After a 9 year layoff, I got back into the game with a determination to go orthodox. What a giant mistake. Me and orthodox don’t really match, mostly because I’m too much of a pain in the drain to make it work. So, back to only using clubs I can hit and making the most of it. I’ve done this before, but it seems like I’ve got a short game back, enough to make ‘whack, whack, chip, putt’ work, this time. We’ll see.

A year ago I thought I was Ben Hogan. I was going to dig it out of the dirt. After lots and lots and lots of range balls (and then some more) I wasn't getting results. I hooked up with a teacher who "clicked" with how I learn. The results were just starting to translate from the practice tee to the course when snow started to fall. I put in as much work as I could over the winter hitting from heated outdoor bays. Hitting crap balls in cold temps meant I wasn't worried about carry, rather consistent ball flight and a consistent move through the ball. I am thrilled that the work is already evident with only three 18's and two 9's under my belt. Plenty of room for improvement and greater consistency, but hope springs eternal.

So far I have gotten in 25 or so rounds this year. Less than I had hoped for, but family issues and sickness take their toll on the golf game. Nothing real serious, but takes time away. While the ball striking has been spotty most of the time I have a couple of rounds under par so far (equalled my PR of 66 on one). Won our women's CC with a couple of ugly 74s. Spending this week grinding on the game preparing for my first state event of the year. Decent start to the year given the less than ideal circumstances.

Driving is the best it’s been! Short game and putting good too, I chipped in two shots from off the green today, one for par and one for birdie. My main problem is ball striking. It was the best part of my game and now currently it’s the worst. Going to work on my snap hooking of the ball by loosening up my grip to start.

Haven’t scored well yet - all the courses around here have aerated greens - my short game is still coming together too - got new wedges this year and I’m still figuring things out. Need a few buckets of balls.

I got fit as a Christmas gift. I can’t recommend it enough - especially the driver. Having a driver that fits me is a revelation - I can swing freely and know that what’s going to happen is a good thing. And I know what my ideal swing is now...I tend to jump around swing thoughts and now I know what my swing and my clubs can do when I just trust my swing.

Hit 6/9 greens today. If I keep that up I should start scoring once the greens around here are decent.

Last year I worked by butt off and got down to a 6. Late Dec I had carpal tunnel surgey, then a few weeks later I did the other hand. My first round after I felt I could play again, I fell and broke my thumb. Playng again at 90% or so. Game is horrible as I cant practice on mats as they are too hard on my hands. Been real wet here as well. Not as long as last year, wet courses. and deep rough due to lack of mowing has pushed me up to a 12. Enoug complaining...Continue to play and work on what I can. Getting stronger. getting drier. and geting my game back slowly.

I was finally able to play last April 14. The second game I played was last Friday. So far so good. Last game I played was October 2018. I think, changing my mindset has helped me a lot. I don't get mad anymore when I make mistakes. I don't easily give up. I move on quickly. Now, I just need to get back my putting back and I think I should be ok. I shot 13 over par last game with 4 three putts. lol

Shot a few good rounds and finally settled on my equipment but since having my 2nd child in January, I've only played maybe 4 times. It's tough with two kids under two and I might just be grateful to get out every once in a while until my kids get old enough to start coming with me, even if it's just to hang out on the course and ride in the cart.

game is rounding into shape nicely at the moment. if it weren't for punched greens everywhere up here, the rounds would easily be 2-4 shots better than they are. getting stoked for qualifyin season baby...booya.

One round of 18 (yesterday). Front 9 was a little sketchy but that was to be expected with no warm up or even picking up a golf club since last Oct. Short game improved quite a bit on back 9 and was only be 3 over on the back. Total of 13 over...not the best start but giving the circumstances I was pretty happy with that.

Not great, really struggling with trying to flatten my swing. Hitting a lot of wipey shots (don't think I've hit a truly solid iron in about 3 rounds). Getting a little sick of only making 1 birdie/round and shooting 74-75. Handicap has gone from +2 to 0 over the past 10 rounds. Claw grip has improved putting however, which is a positive!
