Monte Qualifies for the 2019 US Senior Open

Monte, congrats on a great round. We’ll be rooting for you.

 

My only concern is the bunkering over in South Bend can be brutal. I’d suggest getting a lot of reps in the sand, Monte:

I made the match play at the US junior

Made the us am but got chicken pox (19 years old) and couldn’t play.

 

Made sectionals for us open several times but never got it done.

Nice! Well I know you're really going to enjoy this one. The USGA really does a great job with F&B combined with some pomp and circumstance at their championships. It's going to be really special.

I talked with Monte after his efforts for Champions Tour and I was always impressed by his confidence in his ability to play at this level. So it's no surprise that he's qualified for the Sr. Open... and it is an awesome achievement.... well-deserved after all he's done to help others play better.

A Win is basically it

Top ten doesn’t get in the next week....another champions tour quirk to keep players out.

 

A top finish that got on money list high enough could help but let’s use the Senior British Open.

If he finished near top, only two players in the top like 30 in money who are not exempt already get an exemption to the British.

I noticed one guy that I had played with several times 25 years ago finish 2 shots out. Tough conditions like this can bring the best out of a good ballstriker.

Good news for Monty - the Senior Open takes place June 27-30, in nearby South Bend. Just after the Chicago outing-- we can all work with him and get that putter squared away. And maybe help him too with some extra lag he'll be needing for a course set up like USGA does for an event like this. Timing is everything!
