Covid and New Equipment

I feel like covid has reinvigorated an interest in golf around the world. Among our community here, I was wondering how it's had an effect on your equipment.

I've bought a few used clubs this year from my local store, nothing significant, pretty much same as I have done the last 2 years. Definitely not fueled by the state of the world, just my normal club tinkering self

I will say that having a putting matt at home during work or lockdown or whatever def made me want to try a lot of putters! I grabbed 3 this year alone and I still haven't settled on my fav. I guess the same would apply if a range was in my backyard haha

Here in the GTA they are likely going to do a record amount of rounds.  PIAS and other places that sell used clubs have been picked clean.  We have people trying to sell beat up710 AP2's for $750, Cally Razr X fairways for $160....  Yet I'll get called out for selling niw gear for a decent price as being too high...

I got a new 3W and hybrid shaft but those were planned pre COVID just happened during COVID. I've also bought/sold/traded like 4 to 8 putters in that time as well. I know it was 3 just in August.

Haven't bought anything due to the prices on the used market skyrocketing. I've definitely played more this year than last just to get out of the house, but haven't bothered with any new (to me) clubs.

I've bought sets of irons, multiple hybrids and fairway woods, and a couple drivers this year. Nothing to do with COVID, unfortunately. 

Now, if you are asking about trying to get on our course? It's been crazy! Everyone is playing golf!!

Due to delivery delays by the various postal/delivery services I have bought more equipment at my local big box stores. I pay more, but put it in play for my very next round.

This year was a perfect storm of everything. My son is now 3 so I can get away more to play. My wife is working from home because of the Covid, so she wants me to go play more.  After a dozen rounds I got the new equipment bug and changed my entire bag. The only thing not changed was the bag itself. Been playing at least twice a week this year

Not Covid related, but I had decided to get a new driver at the beginning of the year.  That led to churning my driver more in a year than I have in the last 5.

 

I did take advantage of the increase in used club values to sell some clubs that were I had in the backup bag.

Not COVID-related, but I decided to go away from hybrids in that #4iron spot, and ordered two new irons for it.....actually they are 5 irons. 

 

To go with the TM P760 5-PW, I got a SIM Max coming today.  It will have the KBS TGI 80 graphite shaft, and should transition into my set of P760s with Recoils 110 down and up into the old trusty TM SF 2.0 21 with their ReAX shafts.

 

For my Titleist T100 5-PW, went with a T300 with MR Tensai Blue 70 shaft, similar shaft to the KK TiNi 105S.

 

Just playing the T300 had been good so far from hybrids before.  The super helpful GI design is not uncomfortable despite mostly a MB blade past.  One year playing TM M5 got me used to this look/feel.

I bought a SkyTrak right when things started going south because I was concerned about ability to practice, play.  Haven't been to a range except to warm up before a round since.

I regripped my clubs, swapped around putter grips and got a new bag...

 

Regripping would have happened anyway, putter grips are on a constant change and I wanted the Ping bag because 2-LW in my bag is Ping.

I built a conforming bag from the ground up to replace the old clubs I started out with.  It has been a good project to tinker with during social distancing.

I changed my hybrids and got a new Vessel bag but neither was covid related.  Just wanted to make changes.

I bought a new hybrid.  I would have done the same thing regardless of COVID.  We have a 2nd Swing a couple of miles from my house and their inventory of clubs in nothing compared to last year this time.  I swung by Dicks the other day and they are not much better.  Plenty of clothes, but very few clubs.

So I commented 5 comments ago that nothing has changed, but I was wrong.  I ordered new shafts for my irons and wedges.  I will be building them/finishing them tonight and tomorrow morning to play on Sunday.  I am moving away from the Ping Stiff CFS shafts and into the Ping AWT 2.0 X shafts.  4-GW will be the AWT 2.0 X and the SW and LW will be the AWT 2.0 wedge flex.

First time in my life I ever saw my old school green grass pro shops ping wing picked clean.  They sell more ping than anyone , more than the two big boxes they put out of business.  And their rack is literally empty.  They’ve started putting used ping irons on the main racks for the time being.  S55 with s-taper $550.  I500 well used $800.  And people will pay it.     It’s just odd walking into a shop with a 30 ft x 10 ft ping iron display that’s empty.  And it’s not because they are closing.

Covid has done NOTHING for me or my game.  I bought new club last year, before it was discovered.  If it's done anything to speak of in golf its filled course tee sheets (a good thing) when courses reopened.  People that maybe haven't been playing were bored stiff as shut-ins, and golf was the only release option so they are back playing, until the rest of their lives kick-in.

One thing i know covid has done for sure is effect golf courses.... the courses have definetly been a touch rougher as far as fairways, tee boxes and greens... just about now theyre starting to get nice again. Some greens were sooo dented from incoming balls and tons of people not repairing ball marks.

In March before lockdown, I had three bags of clubs.  I sold all the clubs and one of the bags and rebuilt from the ground up.  I now have two bags with all new or nearly new clubs...

I made a couple of changes but had nothing to do with covid.

The only clubs I didn’t change was the Driver and SW . I revamped my bag and went to 4 hybrids, dropped a 5 wood, added Mavrik 7-AW . Got gaps back in my bags and dropped my hcp by 3 . All clubs were selected by chance purchases . The only purchase I regretted was the 3 and 5 wood Epic Flashes bought on sale. Bought the B21 3 wood and loving it.
